  • RFID is a technique that plays an important role in identifying and tracking the movement of objects by inserting small chips in objects. It is somewhat similar to bar codes from the various points of applications, but is hopefully considered to lead to tremendous development by solving the present drawbacks of bar codes such as slow identification. Speed, low rate of identification, limitation on the distance of identification and on the amount of saving capacity. Through the development of RFID technique, revolutionary growth is anticipated in the area of logistics and commodity distributional systems. Futhermore, the self processing RFID makes the communications between man and objects possible, and through which introduction of ubiquitous atmosphere will be accelerated. Therefore RFID is considered as one of the most attracting area of investment by developed countries as well as Korea. In this paper, we analyze the world wide tendency on RFID, and propose the conditions for activating RFID industry and also suggest directions for national strategy for diffusing RFID.

  • A direct RTI(Rotation and translation invariant) fingerprint identification is proposed using the GCMs(generalized complex moments) and Gabor filter-based features from the grey level fingerprint around core point. The core point is located as reference point for the translation invariant matching. And its symmetry axis is detected for the rotation invariant matching from its neighboring region centered at the core point. And then, fingerprint is divided into non-overlapping blocks with respect to the core point and, in contrast to minutiae-based method using various processing steps, features are directly extracted from the blocked grey level fingerprint using Gabor filter, which provides information contained in a particular orientation in the image. The Proposed fingerprint identification is based on the Euclidean distance of the corresponding Gabor features between the input and the template fingerprint. Experiments are conducted on 300 ${\times}$ 300 fingerprints obtained from the CMOS sensor with 500 dpi resolution, and the proposed method could obtain 97% identification rate.

  • Tactile display devices use an array of pins mounted in the form of a matrix to present three-dimensional shapes to the user by raising and lowering. With a denser matrix of mounted pins, it can be expected that shape identification will be become easier and the time required for identification will also become shorter, but that problems of difficulty in fabrication will arise. It is necessary to consider such trade-offs in the development of such devices. This study conducted experiments to study the effect of pin pitch on shape identification as Part of the fundamental investigation of this subject. The experiment used three tactile display devices with pin pitches of In, 2mm and 3mm for geometrical shape identification, with response time and rate of misidentification taken as the performance data. Surfaces, edgs and vertices of three-dimensional shapes were used as the shape primitives for displayed shapes and several of each type were selected for presentation. The results obtained revealed that performance has different relationships to pin pitch with different shape primitives.

  • Existing city-level boundary nodes identification methods need to locate all IP addresses on the path to differentiate which IP is the boundary node. However, these methods are susceptible to time-delay, the accuracy of location information and other factors, and the resource consumption of locating all IPes is tremendous. To improve the recognition rate and reduce the locating cost, this paper proposes an algorithm for city-level boundary node identification based on bidirectional approaching. Different from the existing methods based on time-delay information and location results, the proposed algorithm uses topological analysis to construct a set of candidate boundary nodes and then identifies the boundary nodes. The proposed algorithm can identify the boundary of the target city network without high-precision location information and dramatically reduces resource consumption compared with the traditional algorithm. Meanwhile, it can label some errors in the existing IP address database. Based on 45,182,326 measurement results from Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Hangzhou in China and New York, Los Angeles and Dallas in the United States, the experimental results show that: The algorithm can accurately identify the city boundary nodes using only 20.33% location resources, and more than 80.29% of the boundary nodes can be mined with a precision of more than 70.73%.

  • A Multilinear LDA Method of Tensor Representation for ECG Signal Based Individual Identification Electrocardiogram signals, included in the cardiac electrical activity, are often analyzed and used for various purposes such as heart rate measurement, heartbeat rhythm test, heart abnormality diagnosis, emotion recognition and biometrics. The objective of this paper is to perform individual identification operation based on Multilinear Linear Discriminant Analysis (MLDA) with the tensor feature. The MLDA can solve dimensional aspects of classification problems in high-dimensional tensor, and correlated subspaces can be used to distinguish between different classes. In order to evaluate the performance, we used MPhysionet's MIT-BIH database. The experimental results on this database showed that the individual identification by MLDA outperformed that by PCA and LDA.

  • Because of its large differences in writing style, context-independency and high recognition accuracy requirement, free handwritten digital identification is still a very difficult problem. Analyzing the characteristic of handwritten digits, this paper proposes a new handwritten digital identification method based on combining structural features. Given a handwritten digit, a variety of structural features of the digit including end points, bifurcation points, horizontal lines and so on are identified automatically and robustly by a proposed extended structural features identification algorithm and a decision tree based on those structural features are constructed to support automatic recognition of the handwritten digit. Experimental result demonstrates that the proposed method is superior to other general methods in recognition rate and robustness.

  • In this paper, we propose three new text-independent speaker identification methods. At first, to exclude the frames not having enough features of speaker's vocal from calculation of the maximum likelihood, we propose the FS(Frame Selection) method. This approach selects the important frames by evaluating the difference between the biggest likelihood and the second in each frame, and uses only the frames in calculating the score of likelihood. Our secondly proposed, called the Hybrid, is a combined version of the FS and WMR(Weighting Model Rank). This method determines the claimed speaker using exponential function weights, instead of likelihood itself, only on the selected frames obtained from the FS method. The last proposed, called MWMR (Modified WMR), considers both original likelihood itself and its relative position, when the claimed speaker is determined. It is different from the WMR that take into account only the relative position of likelihood. Through the experiments of the speaker identification, we show that the all the proposed have higher identification rates than the ML. In addition, the Hybrid and MWMR have higher identification rate about 2% and about 3% than WMR, respectively.

  • Objectives: Metabolic syndrome is considered a coronary heart disease risk factor and its prevalence rate is increasing in Korea. Because obesity is relevant to metabolic syndrome, we investigated the relationship between metabolic syndrome and the Obesity Pattern Identification Questionnaire in middle-aged health check-up examinees. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 125 patients who visited a health promotion center of university hospital from October 2012 to January 2013. We analyzed the association of Obesity Pattern Identification Questionnaire and the diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome. Results: Pi deficiency (脾虛), phlegm (痰飮), liver stasis (肝鬱) and food accumulation (食積) pattern showed significantly highs score in the group with hypertriglyceridemia. Also, females demonstrated significantly high scores of liver stasis (肝鬱) and food accumulation (食積) in the group with hypertriglyceridemia. The questions of Pattern Identification that showed especially significant high score in the group of hypertriglyceridemia are as follows: 'Easily get annoyed', 'Usually worried', 'Frequently overeating or bingeing', and 'Having more after getting full'. There are positive correlations between triglyceride and the score of Pi deficiency (脾虛), phlegm (痰飮) and food accumulation (食積) pattern. Conclusions: Obesity Pattern Identification Questionnaire can be used for the management of hypertriglyceridemia in an effort to prevent metabolic syndrome.

  • Recently, several studies have revealed that commercial microbial identification systems do not accurately identify the uncommon causative species of candidiasis, including Candida famata, Meyerozyma guilliermondii, and C. auris. We investigated the accuracy of species-level identification in a collection of clinical isolates previously identified as C. famata (N = 38), C. lusitaniae (N = 1 2), and M. guilliermondii (N = 5) by the Vitek 2 system. All 55 isolates were re-analyzed by the Phoenix system (Becton Dickinson Diagnostics), two matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry analyzers (a Vitek MS and a Bruker Biotyper), and by sequencing of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions or 26S rRNA gene D1/D2 domains. Among 38 isolates previously identified as C. famata by the Vitek 2 system, the majority (27/38 isolates, 71.1%) were identified as C. tropicalis (20 isolates) or C. albicans (7 isolates) by ITS sequencing, and none was identified as C. famata. Among 20 isolates that were identified as C. tropicalis, 17 (85%) were isolated from urine. The two isolates that were identified as C. auris by ITS sequencing originated from ear discharge. The Phoenix system did not accurately identify C. lusitaniae, C. krusei, or C. auris. The correct identification rate for 55 isolates was 92.7% (51/55 isolates) for the Vitek MS and 94.6% (52/55 isolates) for the Bruker Biotyper, as compared with results from ITS sequencing. These results suggest that C. famata is very rare in Korea, and that the possibility of misidentification should be noted when an uncommon Candida species is identified.
