동일한 인접구조물의 효율적 진동제어방안 (Efficient Vibration Control Approach of Two Identical Adjacent Structures)

  • This study proposes a new control approach for efficient vibration suppression of two identical adjacent structures. The conventional control approach of two adjacent structures is to interconnect the two structures with passive, semi-active or active control devices. However, when the two adjacent structures are identical to each other, their dynamical behaviors such as frequency and damping properties are also the same. In this case, the interconnected control devices cannot exhibit the dissipative control forces on the both structures as expected since the relative displacements and velocities of the devices become close to zero. In other words, the interconnection method does not work for the twin structures as enough as expected. In order to solve this problem, we propose several new control approaches to effectively and efficiently reduce the identically-fluctuating responses of the adjacent structures with minimum control efforts. In order to demonstrate the proposed control systems, the proposed several control systems are optimally designed and their control performances are compared with that of the conventional optimal control system where each TMD(tuned mass damper) is installed in each structure for independent control purpose. The simulated results show that one of the proposed control systems(System 04) is able to guarantee enhanced control performance compared with the conventional system.

Damage identification of belt conveyor support structure using periodic and isolated local vibration modes

  • Due to corrosion, a large number of belt conveyors support structure in industrial plants have deteriorated. Severe corrosion may result in collapse of the structures. Therefore, practical and effective structural assessment techniques are needed. In this paper, damage identification methods based on two specific local vibration modes, named periodic and isolated local vibration modes, are proposed. The identification methods utilize the facts that support structures have many identical members repeated along the belt conveyor and there exist some local modes within a small frequency range where vibrations of these identical members are much larger than those of the other members. When one of these identical members is damaged, this member no longer vibrates in those modes. Instead, the member vibrates alone in an isolated mode with a lower frequency. A damage identification method based on frequencies comparison of these vibration modes and another method based on amplitude comparison of the periodic local vibration mode are explained. These methods do not require the baseline measurement records of undamaged structure. The methods is capable of detecting multiple damages simultaneously. The applicability of the methods is experimentally validated with a laboratory model and a real belt-conveyor support structure.

내진 설계용 스펙트럼에 적합한 인공지진파의 작성과 응답 특성 (Simulation of Artificial Earthquake Wave Compatible with Seismic Design Spectrum and Its Response Characteristics)

  • This study describes a generation of artificial earthquake wane compatible with seismic design spectrum. In seismic response analysis of building structures, the input ground accelerations have considerable effect on dynamic characteristics of structures. Therefore, it is important to properly select input ground motions for seismic response analysis. In this paper, the artificial earthquake wave are generated according to previously recorded earthquake waves in past earthquake events. The artificial wave have identical phase angles to the recorded earthquake wane, and their overall response spectra are compatible with seismic design spectrum with 5% of critical viscous damping. Each simulated earthquake wave has a identical phase angles to the original recorded ground acceleration, and match to design response spectra in the range of period from 0.02 to 10.0 seconds. It is concluded that the artificial earthquake waves simulated in this paper ate applicable as input ground motions for a seismic response analysis of building structures.

불규칙 진동을 받는 복합 적층보의 응력 및 파괴해석 (Random Vibration Analysis of Composite Laminated Beams)

  • The responses of composite laminated beams modeled with finite element and excited by stochastic loading are studied. The cantilevered laminated beam having a 5 ply configuration is considered. The beam is 1m long, 0.1m wide, and 0.02m thick, yielding a length to thickness ratio of L/h=50. The laminated beams was assumed to be made of Born Epoxy. The four nodes at the free end of the cantilever were loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations. Stress and failure analysis loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations is carried out. Along with the obtained results, comparison and discussion are presented for the cases of symmetric-ply, antisymmetric-ply, angle-ply, and cross-ply laminated beams.

다결정실리콘 표면 미세가공 기술을 위한 점착 방지법들의 성능 비교 (The Comparison of Stiction Results of Anti-Stiction Methods for Polysilicon Surface Micromachining)

  • 본 연구에서는 동일한 테스트 구조물을 사용하여 현재 다결정실리콘 표면 미세가공 기술에서 널리 사용되고 있는 여러 가지 점착 방지법들의 성능을 비교하였다. 테스트 구조물로는 다양한 폭과 길이를 갖는 일반적인 cantilever와 dimple, antistiction tip, plate를 가지는 cantilever를 사용하였으며 구조물 형태에 따른 점착 방지 결과를 관찰하였다. 희생층 제거 후 구조물과 기판의 점착을 결정하는 건조과정에서는 증발법과 승화건조법을 사용하였다. 증발법에서는 methanol, IPA, DI water 등을 여러 최종 세척액으로 사용하여 표면장력과 세척 온도에 따른 점착 방지 결과를 비교하였다. 승화건조법에서는 중간 세척액으로 methanol을 사용하였다. 그리고 동일한 실험조건으로 stress gradient가 있는 동일한 구조물을 사용하여 stress gradient에 의한 점착 방지 결과를 관찰하였다. 결론적으로 승화건조법이 여러 가지 증발법보다 우수한 결과를 보여주었고 다결정 실리콘 표면 미세가공 기술로 미세 구조물을 부양시킬 때 승화건조법이 가장 우수한 방법이라고 사료된다.

보/평판 점연성구조의 파동전달해석 (Wave Transmission Analysis of Beam/Plate Point-Coupled Structures)

  • Wave Transmission analysis is one of methods for power transmission and reflection coefficients in coupled infinite structures. This paper focuses the wave transmission analysis of point coupled structures among semi-infinite beams and infinite thin plates considering all kinds of waves. It is supposed that the junction through the beams and plates is an identical spot and no point of contact exist except the spot. The boundary conditions are applied at the spot for continuities of 6 DOF displacements and 6 DOF force equilibriums, and then wave fields are obtained in the coupled structures. Since wave components in plate field are simplified using asymptotic expressions of Henkel functions, the displacements and forces at the plate junction can be simply expressed with magnitudes of the wave components. The wave fields according to incident waves gives the power transmission coefficients in beam/plate point coupled structures. For both coupled structures with a beam vertically and obliquely joined to a plate, power transmission analysis is performed and the analysis results are compared and examined.

  • XML is widely used to provide information on the web. Since accessing XML documents depends on their structures, it is difficult to extract necessary information from documents having different structures. We constructed an ontology of a small application domain and implemented an universal DTD generator from the ontology. The universal DTD can be used in extracting necessary information from the various XML document types representing an identical idea.

Assessment of steel structures designed for progressive collapse under localized fires

  • Structural design against the progressive collapse has been a vital necessity for decades due to occasional tragic events. The question of whether designed structures against the progressive collapse are still robust if subjected to multi-hazard scenarios containing column removal and successive localized fires is ad-dressed in the current study. Two seven-story steel structures with an identical area but different structural configurations of 4- and 5-bays are designed against the progressive collapse; the structural components are also fireproofed for a 60 min fire resistance. The structures are then subjected to different column re-moval scenarios over different stories followed immediately by localized fires. Results indicate that the structures are not able to keep their stability under all of the considered scenarios; the 4-bay structure is more vulnerable than the 5-bay structure. It is also indicated that upper stories are more sensitive toward the considered scenarios than lower stories. To advance structural safety, two strategies are adopted: in-creasing the thickness of the insulation materials to reduce the thermal effects, or, increasing the safety fac-tor (ΩN) of the structures when designing against the progressive collapse. As for the first strategy, provid-ing a 35% and a 25% increase in the insulation thicknesses of the structural components of the 4-bay and 5-bay structures, respectively, can prevent a progressive collapse to trigger. As for the second strategy, in-creasing ΩN by 10% can enhance the structural integrity to where no collapse occurs under all of the sce-narios.

An improved pushover analysis procedure for multi-mode seismic performance evaluation of bridges : (1) Introduction to numerical model

  • This paper introduces an improved modal pushover analysis (IMPA) which can effectively evaluate the seismic response of multi-span continuous bridge structures on the basis of modal pushover analysis (MPA). Differently from previous modal pushover analyses which cause the numerical unstability because of the occurrence of reversed relation between the pushover load and displacement, the proposed method eliminates this numerical instability and, in advance the coupling effects induced from the direct application of modal decomposition by introducing an identical stiffness ratio for each dynamic mode at the post-yielding stage together with an approximate elastic deformation. In addition to these two introductions, the use of an effective seismic load, calculated from the modal spatial force and applied as the distributed load, makes it possible to predict the dynamic responses of all bridge structures through a simpler analysis procedure than those in conventional modal pushover analyses. Finally, in order to establish validity and applicability of the proposed method, correlation studies between a rigorous nonlinear time history analysis and the proposed method were conducted for multi-span continuous bridges.

Galaxy Clusters at High Redshift

  • Hierarchical galaxy formation models under LCDM cosmology predict that the most massive structures such as galaxy clusters (M > $10^{14}M_{\odot}$) appear late (z < 1) in the history of the universe through hierarchical clustering of small objects. Galaxy formation is also expected to be accelerated in overdense environments, with the star formation rate-density relation to be established at z ~ 2. In this talk, we present our search of massive structures of galaxies at 0.7 < z < 4, using the data from GOODS survey and our own imaging survey, Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS). From these studies, we find that there are excess of massive structures of galaxies at z > 2 in comparison to the Millennium simulation data. At 1 < z < 2, the number density of massive structures is consistent with the simulation data, but the star formation history is more or less identical between field and cluster. The star formation quenching process is dominated by internal process (stellar mass). The environmental effect becomes important only at z < 1, which contributes to create the well known star formation-density relation in the local universe. Our results suggest that galaxy formation models under LCDM cosmology may require further refinements to match the observation.
