In tall constructions, the outriggers are regarded as a structural part capable of effectively resisting lateral loads. This study analyses the efficacy of hybrid outrigger system in high rise RCC building for various structural parameters identified. For variations in α, which is defined as the ratio of the relative flexural stiffness of the core to the axial rigidity of the column, static and dynamic analyses of hybrid outrigger system having a virtual and a conventional outrigger at two distinct levels were conducted in the present study. An investigation on the optimal outrigger position was performed by taking the results from absolute maximum inter storey drift ratio (ISDmax), roof acceleration (accroof), roof displacement (disproof), and base bending moment under both wind and seismic loads on analytical models having 40, 60 and 80 storeys. An ideal performance index parameter was introduced and was utilized to obtain the optimal position of the hybrid outrigger system considering the combined response of ISDmax, accroof, disproof and, criteria required for the structure under wind and seismic loads. According to the behavioural study, increasing the column area and outrigger arm length will maximise the performance of the hybrid outrigger system. The analysis results are summarized in a flowchart which provides the optimal positions obtained for each dependent parameter and based on ideal performance index which can be used to make initial suggestions for installing a hybrid outrigger system.
In this paper, we analyze the generation of an image pyramid as a 2-dimensional decimation-interpolation process, and suggest a performance index of FIR filter for decimation and interpolation filter. Until now, most deciamtion and interpolation filters are designed via the approximation of the impulse response of an ideal filter. In this paper, however, we propose a new performance index that minimizes the maximum frequency-weighted mean square error between the desired and the generated interpolated signal, and propose an optimal half-band filter based on the proposed performance index as an example. Some simulation results with real images show that the proposed optimal half-band filter yields a higher PSNR as well as the more preferable image quality, in comparison with other currently used filters with the same computational complexity.
To facilitate comparative analysis on the effects of numerous parameters concerning design and operation of a desiccant rotor, it is firstly required to represent the dehumidification performance as numerical indices. In this work is proposed two performance indices of a desiccant rotor: the humidity effectiveness and the enthalpy-leak ratio. The humidity effectiveness represents the actual dehumidification as compared with the dehumidification in an ideal case, while the enthalpy-leak ratio represents the enthalpy transfer from the regeneration side to the dehumidification side. In an ideal case, the two indices approach one and zero, respectively. The effects of numerous parameters on the dehumidification performance of a desiccant rotor are investigated through numerical simulation and represented with the two indices. The results show that the performance indices are mainly determined by three nondimensional parameters each representing the thermal capacity, the sorption capacity, and the transfer capacity of a desiccant rotor.
In this work, we performed an optical simulation study on the performance of a PMDPP3T:PCBM based on an organic photovoltaic (PV) device. The virtual PV device was developed in Lumerical, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) solutions. Different layers of the PV cell have been defined through the incorporation of complex refractive index value of those layers' constituent materials. During the simulation study, the effect of the variation active layer thickness on an ideal short circuit current density ($J_{sc,ideal}$) of the PV cell has been, first, observed. Thereafter, we have investigated the impact of surface roughness of a transparent conducting oxide (TCO) electrode on $J_{sc,ideal}$ of the PV cells. From this simulation, it has been observed that the $J_{sc,ideal}$ value of the PV cell is strongly dependent on the thickness of its active layer and the photon absorption of the PV cell has gradually decreased with the increment of the TCO's surface roughness. As a result, the capability of the PV device has been reduced with the increment of the surface roughness of the TCO.
A general procedure for determining the optimum location of suspension hard points with respect to kinematic design parametes is presented. Suspensions are modeled as connection of rigid bodies by ideal kinematic joints. Constraint equations of the kinematic joints are expressed in terms of the generalized coordinates and hard points. By directly differentiating the constraint equations with respect to the hard points, kinematic sencitivity equations are obtained. In order to cope with algebraic complexity associated with the differentiation process, a symbolic computation technique is used. A performance index is defined in terms of static design parameters such as camber, caster, toe, ect.. Gradient of the performance index can be analytically computed from the kinematic sensitivity equations. Optimization results show the effectiveness and validity of the procedure, which is applicable to any type of suspension if its kinematic configurations are given.

The seismic performance of traditional steel frame-shear wall structures was significantly improved by the application of self-centering steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) wall-panel structures in the steel frames. This novel resilience functionality can rapidly restore the structure after an earthquake. The presented steel frame with steel-reinforced concrete self-centering wall-panel structures (SF-SCW) was validated, indicating its excellent seismic performance. The seismic design method based on bear capacity cannot correctly predict the elastic-plastic performance of the structure, especially certain weak floors that might be caused by a major fracture. A four-level seismic performance index, including intact function, continued utilization, life safety, and near-collapse, was established to achieve the ideal failure mode. The seismic design method, based on structural displacement, was proposed by considering performance objectives of the different seismic action levels. The pushover analysis of a six-floor SF-SCW structure was carried out under the proposed design method and the results showed that this six-floor structure could achieve the predicted failure mode.
A digital logic demodulator for binary FSK signals is presented. The operation is based on the quadricorrelator which is known as an ideal frequency detector. The demodulator is especially suitable for high-speed application, and it can be easily implemented in integrated circuit. Computer simulation results show that the performance of the receiver with digital demodulator converges to that of analog quadricorrelator receiver as the number of mixing axes is increased and the optimum bandwidth depending on a modulation index is slightly wider than that of analog demodulator.
PURPOSES : This study is aimed at development of a stochastic pavement deterioration forecasting model using National Highway Pavement Condition Index (NHPCI) to support infrastructure asset management. Using this model, the deterioration process regarding life expectancy, deterioration speed change, and reliability were estimated. METHODS : Eight years of Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) data fused with traffic loads (Equivalent Single Axle Loads; ESAL) and structural capacity (Structural Number of Pavement; SNP) were used for the deterioration modeling. As an ideal stochastic model for asset management, Bayesian Markov multi-state exponential hazard model was introduced. RESULTS:The interval of NHPCI was empirically distributed from 8 to 2, and the estimation functions of individual condition indices (crack, rutting, and IRI) in conjunction with the NHPCI index were suggested. The derived deterioration curve shows that life expectancies for the preventive maintenance level was 8.34 years. The general life expectancy was 12.77 years and located in the statistical interval of 11.10-15.58 years at a 95.5% reliability level. CONCLUSIONS : This study originates and contributes to suggesting a simple way to develop a pavement deterioration model using the total condition index that considers road user satisfaction. A definition for level of service system and the corresponding life expectancies are useful for building long-term maintenance plan, especially in Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) work.
This paper presents a power quality assessment model based on the Analytic hierarchy process. This model can assess unified power quality index which provide an overall performance of the distribution system. To obtain the unified power quality index, we propose the use of the AHP model which has three states: [Ideal]-[Actual]-[Worst]. The proposed method is especially useful and effective for planning. We have applied the proposed method to an actual relatively large system, and verified the usefulness.
TOPSIS (Techniques for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution)를 이용하여 낙동강 유역의 21개 시 군을 대상으로 지하수위관리 취약성을 평가하였다.
