현상학적, 생태학적 비판에 기초한 영상기억의 타당성 (Validating Iconic Memory According to the Phenomenological and Ecological Criticisms)

  • 영상기억은 시각기억 처리 과정의 최초 저장 기제로서 오랫동안 이론적인 타당성을 인정받아왔다. 그러나 최근 관심이 대폭 증가한 시각단기기억과 시각장기기억에 비해 영상기억에 대한 연구자들의 관심은 상대적으로 부족했던 것이 사실이다. 이러한 관심의 부족은 영상기억 및 시각지속 현상에 대한 이론 및 방법론적 이해의 결여가 그 원인인 것으로 짐작된다. 본 연구는 영상기억 및 시각지속 현상에 대한 이론적 배경과 경험적 연구 사례를 개관해 영상기억에 대한 상세한 이해를 도모하였다. 더 나아가 영상기억의 타당성에 대한 현상학적, 생태학적 비판들의 핵심 내용들을 토대로 향후 영상기억 연구의 방향을 가늠하는데 목적을 두었다.

티셔츠 디자인에 대한 분석 (An Analysis on T-shirts Design)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics of effective expression on T-shirts pattern by peirce's semiotic theory. The methods of this study was to analyze 721 T-shirts patterns in designer's collection from 2000 to 2004. The results of this study were as follows: First of all, iconic expression showed high frequency after 2000. Characteristics of effective expression were as follows: In geometric expression, repetition was presented as a symbolic sign by regular proportion and rule of dot, line, plane, irregularity, mixture of irregular dot, line, plane. Mixed expression was presented as a iconic and symbolic sign by collage, mixture of dot, line, plane, icon and letter. In iconic expression, simplification of iconic sigrl was presented as a iconic sign by simplification of form, color, texture, realistic expression using digital as a iconic sign, and symbolic face, body as a symbolic sign. Pop art's expression was presented as a iconic sign by a cartoon and commercial character and illusion was presented as a iconic sign. In letter's expression, brand logo was presented as a symbolic sign by transformation of letter's design, a symbolic sign of numeral by transformation of size, thickness, form, color. Symbolic message phrase was presented by slogan, fashion trend, brand image, descriptive indication message as a index sign by using icon or singleness. In conclusion, characteristics of effective expression on T-shirts pattern will present not only the theoretical foundation to raise the value added, but also the information about beauty sense of times, political and social value.

영상적 표상이 포함된 비례 문제에서 나타난 아동들의 비례적 사고 분석 (An Analysis of Children's Proportional Reasoning in Proportional Problems with Iconic Representations)

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze children's proportional reasoning and problem solving in proportional problems with/without iconic representations. Proportional problems include 3 tasks such as (a) without any picture, (b) with simple picture, and (c) with/without iconic representation. As a result, children didn't show any significant differences in two tasks such as (a) and (b). However, children showed better proportional reasoning with iconic representation. In addition, 'build-up expression' strategy was used mostly in solving problems and 'additive strategy' was shown as an error which students didn't make an appropriate proportional relation expression and they made a wrong additive strategy.

  • 아이콘 이미지를 위한 공간 매치 검색기법은 이미지를 몇개의 인식가능한 심볼로 인식하고, 이것을 도큐먼트를 대표하는 값으로 받아들여 인덱싱한다. 사용자가 이미지에 대한 내용-본위 검색을 요구하면, 질의에 있는 이미지를 심볼로 변환한 후 접근기법을 통해 원하는 이미지를 검색한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이미지의 내용-본위 검색을 효율적으로 지원하기 위하여, 시그니쳐를 이용한 아이콘 이미지의 공간 매치 검색 기법을 제안하다. 이를 위하여 2차원 아이코닉 이미지에 대한 새로운 색인 표현 방법을 제시하며, 구현한 전체 시스템 구성을 설명한다. 아울러 기존의 9-DLT 방법과 정확률과 검색율면에서 성능평가를 수행하여, 제안하는 기법이 이미지의 내용-본위 검색에 효율적임을 보인다.

  • 언어 장애인에게 기존의 키보드에 의한 문자입력 방법보다 원활하고 편리한 의사전달 환경을 제공하기 위한 아이콘 언어 인터페이스를 설계한다. 이를 위하여 활용성이 높은 대화 영역으로부터 구축한 원시 말뭉치를 대상으로 어휘 구사 경향과 특성을 분석하고 형태소, 구문, 의미 분석을 적용하여 아이콘에 부여되는 한국어의 어휘와 의미를 추출한다. 사용자가 직관적으로 인지하고 전달할 수 있는 아이콘 영역을 선별하고 추출한 한국어의 어휘와 의미를 정합시킨다. 이웃하는 아이콘간의 연결로부터 전달하고자 하는 의미적 상황을 만들어내기 위하여, 아이콘 언어의 어휘와 품사, 문법 규칙, 의미체계를 정의하여 아이콘 언어를 설계한다. 아이콘 언어에서 나타날 수 있는 언어적 애매성을 해결하기 위한 방법으로 범용의 한국어 의미사전과 술어 중심의 하위범주화사전으로부터 아이콘 언어에 대한 상황중심의 의미 데이터를 구축한다. 이를 바탕으로 아이콘 언어 인터페이스로부터 한국어를 의미적인 범주에서 생성한다.

  • UML cannot meet all the requirements offered in different software system for diverse application domain. GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) application domain is an especial environment that requires precise measurement and precision calculation of real-world geographical entities with the help of GPS (Global Position System) in both temporal and spatial factor. Therefore in the paper new extended iconic stereotypes for better modeling GNSS application in the UML Diagram are proposed, and the implementation of a program called StereotypeCreator, which is able to create iconic stereotypes used in one of the most popular visual modeling tools for software development, Rational Rose, will be also proposed.

A Study on Iconic Animation based on Object Modeling Technique

  • We propose the iconic animation of the software requirement specifications by using the object and dynamic models of the object modeling technique(OMT) methodology. In order to produce the iconic animation, we use "graphical classes" and "icon transformations." In general, the graphical classes are defined for each class of the object diagram. The icon transformations which show the activities of the application are constructed by considering the meaning of the activities and are defined by either basic or compound icons. The icon transformations are added to the state diagrams to generate extended state diagrams. The animation system generates the header files and the code instantiating GUI from the object diagram having graphical classes. The system also generates "event methods" from the extended state diagrams. When the event methods are executed, the behavior of the events is animated by the icon transformations.

  • Before the information revolution, written languages used to be our major communication method, but with development of various types of mass media technologies the role of visual images are becoming more and more essential. Computer which is one of the most popular information medias of today has influenced our lives in many ways including the way we communicate through icons. The current study first explores Peirce's semiotic theory and then accordingly Investigates programs, concepts and expressions of iconic designs. Lastly, analyze modern iconic architectural design examples by using the theoretical framework in order to define concepts of semiotic and its relationship architectural design applications as design methods.

전자기 관련 실험 활동에서 초등 교사가 사용한 표상 패턴과 의미 형성 과정 분석 (Analysis of Representation Patterns Used by Elementary Teachers and Meaning-Making Processes in Electromagnetic Experiment Activities)

  • This study aims to investigate the representation patterns used by elementary teachers and their meaning-making process in electromagnetic experiments. In particular, we analyzed the representations depending on three levels of their abstractness: enactive representation (action based), iconic representation (image based) and symbolic representation (language based). For this, four experiment activities of two teachers were analyzed and the results are as follows. First, as an overall pattern of representation, an experiment subject is presented as the form of symbolic representation and the related concepts, experimental materials and methods are embodied through iconic representation. Then, through enactive representation, the actual experiments are implemented. The experimental results are primarily recorded through iconic representations and abstracted into symbolic representations to draw conclusions. The different levels of representations complement each other to expand their meanings, however, sometimes they also make inconsistent meanings among different levels. Based on these results, educational implications were discussed in terms of supporting and improving electromagnetic experiment activities.

모바일제품을 위한 청각 아이콘 설계에 관한 연구 (Design of Auditory Icons in Mobile Applications)

  • Little research has been performed regarding auditory icons even though auditory icons have great potentials as a strategy for creating informative, intuitively accessible, and unobtrusive interface. Therefore, this study was conducted to design new auditory icons through the iconic mapping for ten most frequently used mobile phone menus, and to show the usability of auditory icons. Two most familiar auditory sounds for each menu were collected and compared to the current button-pressing sound. The results show that the newly designed auditory icons had shorter recognition times, better satisfaction than the current icons. In other words, auditory icons could be an effective interface to provide a redundant feedback along with visual feedbacks in navigating mobile devices.
