  • High-dynamic-range (HDR) rendering technology changes the range from the broad dynamic range (up to 9 log units) of a luminance, in a real-world scene, to the 8-bit dynamic range which is the common output of a display's dynamic range. One of the techniques, iCAM06 has a superior capacity for making HDR images. iCAM06 is capable of making color appearance predictions of HDR images based on CIECAM02 and incorporating spatial process models in the human visual system (HVS) for contrast enhancement. However there are several problems in the iCAM06, including obscure user controllable factors to be decided. These factors have a serious effect on the output image but users get into difficulty in that they can't find an adequate solution on how to adjust. So a suggested model gives a quantitative formulation for user controllable factors of iCAM06 to find suitable values which corresponds with different viewing conditions, and improves subjective visuality of displayed images for varying illuminations.

  • The iCAM06 has been used as an image appearance model for HDR image rendering. The iCAM06 goes through the color space conversions and scale conversions of the several steps to present HDR images. The dynamic range of an HDR image needs to be mapped on the range of output devices, which is called the tone mapping. However, tone compression process of the iCAM06 causes color distortion because of color-clipping and cross-stimulus. Therefore, we proposed that a color correction method in IPT space which compensates the color distortion in tone compression process. Through the experimental results, we conformed that proposed color correction method had better performance than the iCAM06 and enhanced models.

  • In this paper, we present an auto-range fast bilateral filter (FBF) for high-dynamic-range (HDR) images, which increases computation speed by using adaptive standard deviations for range filter (RF) of FBF in iCAM06. Many images that cover the entire dynamic range of the scene with different exposure times are fused into one High Dynamic Range (HDR) image. The representative algorithm for HDR image rendering is iCAM06, which is based on the iCAM framework, such as the local white point adaptation, chromatic adaptation, and the image processing transform (IPT) uniform color space. FBF in iCAM06 uses constant standard deviation in RF. So, it causes unnecessary FBF computation in high stimulus range with broad and low distribution. To solve this problem, the low stimulus image and high stimulus image of CIE tri-stimulus values (XYZ) divided by the threshold are respectively processed by adaptive standard deviation based on its histogram distribution. Experiment results show that the proposed method reduces computation time than the previous FBF.

  • Recently, a new image appearance model, named iCAM06, was developed for High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) image rendering. The dynamic range of a HDR image needs to be mapped on the range of output devices, which is called the tone reproduction or tone mapping. The iCAM06, the representative HDR rendering algorithm also uses the tone compression using a S-curve mapping function for image reproduction on the dynamic range of output devices. However the iCAM06 occurs white point shift during its tone compression process. Therefore, we propose a compensation method for white point shift problem using the corrected channel gain function. Experiment results show that the proposed method has better performance than the iCAM06.

  • Recently high dynamic range imaging technique is hot issue in computer graphic area. We present a progressive tone mapping algorithm, which is based on weighted least squares optimization framework. Our approach combines weighted leastsquaresfiltering with iCAM06, for showing more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, while avoiding visual halo artifacts. We decompose high dynamic range image into base layer and detail layer. The base layer has large scale variation, it is obtained by using weighted least squares filtering, and then the base layer incorporates iCAM06 model. Then, adaptive compression on the base layer according to human visual system. Only the base layer reduces contrast, and preserving detail. The resultshows more perceptual color appearance and preserve fine detail, while avoiding common artifacts.

  • In High Dynamic Range (HDR) image processing, tone mapping is the process to compress an input image into a Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image. In most cases, the reason that detail preservation is prior to take over tone mapping is that the dynamic range is significantly different between input and output images. In the case of iCAM06, details are separated by using a bilateral filter, however, it causes noise amplification at the dim surround region. Thus, we suggest that the detail signal, which is separated from the bilateral filter, is combined with the base signal after an adaptive Kalman filter is applied according to the local standard deviation. We confirmed that the proposed method enhances the HDR images quality by checking the noise reduction in a dim surround region.

To show more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, we decompose high dynamic range image into base layers and detail layers. Only the base layers reduce contrast, and preserving detail. The image quality assessment shows that our tone mapped image is more similar to original high dynamic range image. Moreover, the subjective result shows our algorithm produces more reliable and pleasing image.

  • Recently, the HDR imaging technique that mimics human eye is incorporated with LCD/LED display devices to deal with mismatch between the real world scene and the displayed image. However, HDR image has a veiling glare limit as well as a scale of the local contrast problem. In order to overcome these problems, several color correction methods, CSR(center/surround Retinex), MSR (Multi-Scale Retinex), tone-mapping method, iCAM06 and so on, are proposed. However, these methods have a dominated color throughout the entire resulting image after performing color correction. Accordingly, this paper presents a new color correction method using dynamic cone response function. The proposed color correction method consists of tone-mapping and dynamic cone response. The tone-mapping is obtained by using a linear interpolation between chromatic and achromatic. Thereafter, the resulting image is processed through the dynamic cone response function, which estimates the dynamic responses of human visual system as well as deals with mismatch between the real scene image and the rendered image. The experiment results show that the proposed method yields better performance of color correction over the conventional methods.
