Inverse analysis of non-linear reinforced concrete bridge pier using recursive Gaussian filtering for in-situ condition assessment is the main theme of this work. For this purpose, minimum variance unbiased estimation using unscented sigma points is adopted here. The uniqueness of this inverse analysis lies in its approach for strain based updating of engineering demand parameters, where appropriate bound and constrained conditions are introduced to ensure numerical stability and convergence. In this analysis, seismic input is also identified, which is an added advantage for the structures having no dedicated sensors for earthquake measurement. First, the proposed strategy is tested with a simulated example whose hysteretic properties are obtained from the slow-cyclic test of a frame to investigate its efficiency and accuracy. Finally, the experimental test data of a full-scale bridge pier is used to study its in-situ condition in terms of Park & Ang damage index. Overall the study shows the ability of the augmented minimum variance unbiased estimation based recursive time-marching algorithm for non-linear system identification with the aim to estimate the engineering damage parameters that are the fundamental information necessary for any future decision making for retrofitting/rehabilitation.

This study presents a genetic algorithm (GA) to design a PID controller systematically for an inchworm operated by piezoelectric actuators. The performance index considering overshoot and settling time is adopted to search an optimal PID gain using GA. The piezoelectric actuator shows nonlinear characteristics including hysteresis and residual displacement. The PID feedback system combined with an integrator is used to improve the ability of tracking the complex input signals and suppressing the steady state error. The PID controller tuned by GA can track the various motion contours effectively. However, the PID controller shows an improper residual vibration under the application of high-frequency square input. The input shaper combined with the feedback system can overcome this limitation of the PID controller.

Silicon nitride film was deposited on a silicon wafer using a laser CVD(LCVD) technique, which is based on direct photolysis of $SiH_4/NH_3$ gas mixture by ArF laser beam(${\lambda}=193\;nm$). The refractive index of deposited SiN film is 1.9 at the temperature of $300^{\circ}C$, pressure of 5 torr. The breakdown field strength of LCVD SiN film was 10MV/cm. In IR spectrum, the absorption peak of Si-H, N-H, and Si-N is detected and it is shown that hydrogen is included in SiN film. From analysis of absorption band. it is calculated that density of Si-H, N-H bond is higher than $5{\times}10^{22}cm^{-3}$. LCVD MIS capacitor and PECVD MIS capacitor have injection-type hysteresis but it is known that hysteresis loss of LCVD MIS capacitor is smaller than that of PECVD MIS capacitor. It means that Interface state density of LCVD capacitor is smaller than that of PECVD capacitor. In addition, the flatband voltage($V_{FB}$) of LCVD is smaller than that of PECVD capacitor. And it means that fixed charged density($Q_{FIX}$) of LCVD capacitor is smaller than that of PECVD MIS capacitor.
Rheological propreties of defatted and 1% palmitic arid reincorporated rice starch solutions were investigated, comparing with nondefatted starch. Flow behavior of gelatinized starch solutions(3-7%) revealed pseudoplastic behavior with yield stress, but yield stress was decreased by defatting. Relationship between logarithmic consistency index and concentration of nondefatted starch solution was linear with single slope, but the slopes for defatted and reincorporated starch solutions were different at 3-5% and 5-7% starch concentration. The activation energies for 7% starch solutions were estimated to be 3.14-4.76 kcal/g mol and increased slightly by defatting. All thre starch solutions above 4% concentration exhibited hysteresis phenomena, but by defatting, humping phenomena was observed and thixotropic behavior were increased slightly.
The rheological properties of soybean paste suspensions as affected by concentrations and heating were studied. All suspensions of soybean paste showed thioxotropic plastic behavior. The concentrated suspensions below the ratio of water to soybean paste, 1.25 exhibited Figure-eight phenomena which were presented by two Intersections of the up curve with the dorm curve of shear rate. The dilute suspension (soybean paste: water=1:2) showed H type hysteresis loop at low temperature. But increasing the heating temperature above $60^{\circ}C$, the hysteresis loop exhibited a Figure eight phenomenon. Consistency index of the suspensions increased remarkably by heating and showed the highest value around isoelectric point of the protein. It was suggested that the proteinous nitrogen might be the main component taking part in viscous behavior under different pH and heat treatment.
Objectives Sasang Constitution (SC) is determined by various physical and psychological attributes. Recently, skin properties have been used effectively to describe SC types in clinics. In this paper, we investigated the constitution dependence of skin elasticity and skin perspiration by using quantitative measurement devices. Methods The skin elasticity of forearm and the skin perspiration of forehead and philtrum were measured in 223 elderly female subjects. To determine the subject's constitution, we adopted the classification results from a newly developed diagnostic tool. For the clarity of constitution, we excluded low-scored subjects in their SC classification. Results & Conclusions As a result, the elasticity hysteresis of forearm (EHFa) of Taeum-in group was significantly less than the EHFa of Soeum-in group. Soeum-in group has high perspiration difference between philtrum and forehead (Diff.PhFh) compared to Taeum-in group in a significance level of .05. Taeum-in and Soeum-in group were significantly classified by EHFa and Diff.PhFh using a Support Vector Machine.

Soil humin is the insoluble fraction of humic materials and play an important roles in the irreversible sorption of hydrophobic organic contaminants onto soil particles. However, there have been limited knowledge about the sorption and chemical properties of humin due to the difficulties in its separation from the inorganic matrix(mainly clays and oxides). In this study, de-ashed soil humins($Hu_1-Hu_6$) were isolated from a soil residues(Crude Hu) after removing alkali-soluble organic fractions followed by consecutive dissolution of the mineral matrix with 2%-HF for 2 hr. The humin samples were characterized by elemental analysis and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopic method and their sorption-desorption behavior for 1-naphthol were investigated from aqueous solution. The results were compared one another and that with peat humin. $^{13}C$ NMR spectra features indicate that the soil humin molecules are mainly made up of aliphatic carbons(>80% in total carbon) including carbohydrate, methylene chain. Freundlich sorption parameter, n was increased from 0.538 to 0.697 and organic carbon-normalized sorption coefficient(log $K_{OC}$) values also increased from 2.43 to 2.74 as inorganic matrix of the soil humin removed by HF de-ashing. The results suggest that inorganic phase in humin plays an important, indirect role in 1-naphthol sorption and the effects on the sorption non-linearity and intensity are analyzed by comparison between the results of soil humin and peat humin. Sorption-desorption hysteresis were also observed in all the humin samples and hysteresis index(HI) at low solute concentration($C_e$=0.1 mg/L) are in order of Peat humin(2.67)>De-ashed humin(0.74)>Crude Hu(0.59).
This study was carried out to investigate solutes concentration change with respect to discharge change in coniferous forest experiment watershed in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. From 2005 to 2008. Precipitation, discharge, solutes has been analyzed from 23 precipitation events. The results showed that low API induced low discharge. $NH_4{^+}$, $K^+$, and $Ca^{2+}$ were indicated by clockwise and $Cl^-$ and $NO_3{^-}$ were represented by counterclockwise hysteresis loop. ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$ showed no hysteresis loop pattern. $Cl^-$, $Na^+$, $NH_4{^+}$ was relatively constant due to groundwater during precipitation, $NO_3{^-}$ was increased due to soil water compared to early precipitation. $Cl^-$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$ was diluted with respect to increased discharge and $NO_3{^-}$ was diluted in early precipitation and then increased in the end. $NO_3{^-}$ and $Ca^{2+}$ eluviated in early precipitation. This characteristics was presumed by the effect of API, discharge and ground water.
A single dose of pilocarpine was subcutaneously injected into the rabbit in order to clarify the effects of cholinergic activities on the secretion of the pulmonary surfactant. The animal was sacrificed four hours after the injection, and the pressure-volume curve of the excised lung was obtained. The surfactant activities of the lung washings were also measured, and a comparison was made with the normal. The pressure-volume curve of the excised lung by the injection and ejection of air formed a loop (hysteresis) and the mean intra-alveolar pressure at 35 ml of air was 220 $mmH_20$ in the normal. The mean deflation curve of the pilocarpine treated rabbit lungs was shifted to the left compared with the normal. The surfactant activities were slightly increased than the normal. The above results suggest that pilocarpine stimulates the secretion of the pulmonary surfactant from the Type II alveolar epithelial cell.
This study presents an experiment and analysis to compare the seismic behavior of full-scale reinforced concrete beam-column joint strengthened by prestressed steel strips, externally bonded steel plate, and CFRP sheets. For experimental investigation, five specimens, including one joint without any retrofitting, one joint retrofitted by externally bonded steel plate, one joint retrofitted by CFRP sheets, and two joints retrofitted by prestressed steel strips, were tested under cyclic-reserve loading. The failure mode, strain response, shear deformation, hysteresis behavior, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation and damage indexes of all specimens were analyzed according to experimental study. It was found that prestressed steel strips, steel plate and CFRP sheets improved shear resistance, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation behavior and reduced the shear deformation of the joint core area, as well as changed the failure pattern of the specimen, which led to the failure mode changed from the combination of flexural failure of beams and shear failure of joints core to the flexural failure of beams. In addition, the beam-column joint retrofitted by steel plate exhibited a high bearing capacity, energy consumption capacity and low damage index compared with the joint strengthened by prestressed steel strip, and the prestressed steel strips reinforced joint showed a high strength, energy dissipation capacity and low shear deformation, stirrups strains and damage index compared to the CFRP reinforced joint, which indicated that the frame joints strengthened with steel plate exhibited the most excellent seismic behavior, followed by the prestressed steel strips.
