Mongolia has three(3) geothermal zones and eight(8) hydrogeothermal systems/regions that are, fold-fault platform/uplift zone, concave-largest subsidence zone, and mixed intermediate-transitional zone. Average temperature, heat flow, and geothermal gradient of hot springs in Arhangai located to fold-fault platform/uplift zone are $55.8^{\circ}C$, 60~110 mW/m2 and $35{\sim}50^{\circ}C/km$ respectively and those of Khentii situated in same zone are $80.5^{\circ}C$, 40~50 mW/m2, and $35{\sim}50^{\circ}C/km$ separately. Temperature of hydrothermal water at depth of 3,000 m is expected to be about $173{\sim}213^{\circ}C$ based on average geothermal gradient of $35{\sim}50^{\circ}C/km$. Among eight systems, Arhangai and Khentii located in A type hydrothermal system, Khovsgol in B type, Mongol Altai plateau in C type, and Over Arhangai in D type are the most feasible areas to develop geothermal power generation by Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS). Potential electric power generation by EGS is estimated about 2,760 kW at Tsenher, 1,752 kW at Tsagaan Sum, 2,928 kW at Khujir, 2,190 kW at Baga Shargaljuut, and 7,125 kW at Shargaljuut.
Calcite(CaCO3) single crystals were grown hydrothermally and transmittance of as grown crystals was measured. Instead of platinium, teflon was lined onto the wall of autoclave to prevent the corrosion of autoclave wall by acidic NH4Cl solution. Spontaneous nucleation and growth of calcite crystal on teflon was reduced considerably by addition of NaCl and /or CH3COOH and applying low temperature gradient. When the temperature gradient exceeded to a few degrees from the critical temperature gradient(6-7℃), spontaneous nucleation and growth was rapidly increased in any hydrothermal solutions. Precise temperature control is thought to be the most important factor for the growth of calcite single crystal by hydrothermal technique. As grown calcite single crytal showed high transmittance compared to natural one by UV-visible analysis.
In order to fabricate porous ceramics, hydrated sodium silicate was synthesized by hydrothermal reaction using anhydrous sodium silicate. The microstructural and the structural characteristics of the expanded ceramics were observed depending on heat treatment temperature (550, 600, 650, $700^{\circ}C$) and then the effect of these characteristics on the compressive strength and the temperature gradient was investigated. As the heat treatment temperature was increased, the compressive strength was decreased from $0.717KN/cm^2\;(550^{\circ}C)\;to\;0.166KN/cm^2\;(700^{\circ}C)$. The temperature gradient was increased with increasing the experimental temperature regardless of the heat treatment temperature. The temperature gradient of the expanded ceramics which was heat treated at $650^{\circ}C\;was\;300^{\circ}C$. The bulk specific gravity, porosity, pore size, pore characteristics and wall thickness were varied depending on heat treatment temperature, and the compressive strength and the temperature gradient were governed by the complex effects of these factors.

Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) can be a cost-effective and renewable geothermal energy source, depending on site-specific and thermohydraulic conditions. To design an effective ATES system having the effect of groundwater movement, understanding of thermohydraulic processes is necessary. The heat transfer phenomena for an aquifer heat storage are simulated by using FEFLOW with the scenario of heat pump operation with pumping and waste water reinjection in a two layered confined aquifer model. Temperature distribution of the aquifer model is generated, and hydraulic heads and temperature variations are monitored at the both wells during 365 days. The average groundwater velocities are determined with two hydraulic gradient sets according to boundary conditions, and the effect of groundwater flow are shown at the generated thermal distributions of three different depth slices. The generated temperature contour lines at the hydraulic gradient of 0.001 are shaped circular, and the center is moved less than 5 m to the direction of groundwater flow in 365 days simulation period. However at the hydraulic gradient of 0.01, the contour center of the temperature are moved to the end of east boundary at each slice and the largest movement is at bottom slice. By the analysis of thermal interference data between two wells the efficiency of the heat pump system model is validated, and the variation of heads is monitored at injection, pumping and no operation mode.

KTP seed crystals were grown by the hydrothermal method and the properties of grown crystals were investigated by means of infrared spectrophotometer. The hydrothermal conditions for high growth rates of seed crystals are as follows: temperature ranges, between , $430 and 450^{\circ}C $ ; hydrothermal solvent, 4m KF solution ; temperatures difference, $30<{\triangle}T<65^{\circ}C$ ; filling %, 65% ; growth method, vertical temperature gradient method. Under these conditions, morphologies of the grown KTP single crystals tended to be bounded by (100), (011) and (201) faces and hydroxyl groups were observed in the grown crystals.

The hydrothermal growth of $GaPO_{4}$ Single Crystals was carried out by the horizontal temperature gradient method. The most promising solvents for the crystal growth of $GaPO_{4}$ are $H_{3}PO_{4}$ and HCl solutions. Single crystals have been hydothermally grown at temperatures over the range $210-290^{\circ}C$ in these solutions with seed crystals. The glowth rates in HCl solution were higher than that for comparable conditions in $H_{3}PO_{4}$ solution. Morphologies of crystals grown at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$ tended to be bounded by small major rhombohedral(10$\bar{1}$1) faces. In the temperature range from 200 to $430^{\circ}C$, the single crystals have morphologies bounded by prism (10$\bar{1}$0), small major rhombohedral(10$\bar{1}$1) and minor rhombohedral(01$\bar{1}$1) faces at the early stage, and grew with well developed basal(0001) faces by increasing the growth temperature.
Hydrothermal vents (HTV) provide special environments for evolution of lives independent on solar energy. HTV samples were gained from Tofua arc trench in Tonga, South Pacific. We investigated archaeal diversity enriched using combinations of various electron donors (yeast extract and $H_2$) and electron acceptors [Iron (III), elemental sulfur ($S^0$) and nitrate. PCR amplification was performed to detect archaeal 16S rRNA genes after the cultures were incubated $65^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks. The cultures showing archaeal growth were transferred using the dilution-to-extinction method. 16S rRNA gene PCR-Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis was used to identify the enriched archaea in the highest dilutions where archaeal growth was observed. Most of cultured archaea belonged to genus of Thermococcus (T. alcaliphilius, T. litoralis, T. celer, T. barossii, T. thoreducens, T. coalescens) with 98-99% 16S rRNA gene similarities. Interestingly, archaeal growth was observed in the cultures with Iron (III) and nitrate as an electron acceptor. It was supposed that archaea might use the elemental sulfur generated from oxidation of the reducing agent, sulfide. To cultivate diverse archaea excluding Thermococcus, it would be required to use other reducing agents instead of sulfide.

Natural gas hydrate, a solid compound of natural gas (mainly methane) and water in the low temperature and high pressure, is widely distributed in permafrost region and deep sea sediments. Gas hydrate stability field (GHSF), which corresponds to the conditions of a stable existence of solid gas hydrate without dissociation, depends on temperature, pressure, and composition of gas and interstitial water. Gas hydrate-saturated sediment are easily recognized by the bottom simulating reflector (BSR), a strong-amplitude sea bottom-mimic reflector in seismic profiles. It is known that BSR is associated with the basal boundary of the GHSF, The purpose of this study is to define the GHSF and its occurrence in the southwestern part of Ulleung Basin, East Sea. The hydrothermal gradient is measured using the expandable bathythermograph (XBT) and the geothermal gradient data are utilized from previous drilling results for the adjacent area. By the laboratory work using methane and NaCl $3.0 wt{\%}$ solution, it is shown that the equilibrium pressures of the gas hydrate reach to 2,920.2 kPa at 274.15 K and to 18,090 kPa at 289.95 K for the study area. Consequently, it is interpreted that the lower boundary of the GHSF is about 210 m beneath 400-m-deep sea bottom and about 480 m beneath 1,100-m-deep sea bottom. The resultant boundary is well matched with the depth of the BSR obtained from the seismic data analysis for the study area.

Growth runs of KTP single crystals were carried out by the hydrothermal method. KTP powders used for the crystal growth were prepared as a single phase by the solid state reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of $KH_2PO_4 and TiO_2$ at TEX>$800^{\circ}C$ and subsequently by the hydrothermal treatment at $250^{\circ}C$ 4m KF solution. The most effective solvents for the crystal growth of KTP were KF and K $K_2HPO_4$ solutions. Solubilities of KTP in these solutions were positive over the range $350~450^{\circ}C$.Seed crystals of good quality could be obtained by the horizontal temperature gradient method at temperatures over the range 380~430^{\circ}C$ in these solutions. The hydrothermal conditions for the high growth rates of seed crystals are as follows: growth method; vertical temperature gradient method, solvent; 4m KF or $K_2HPO_4$ solution, temperature region; $400~450^{\circ}C$, pressure region; $1000~1500kg/cm^2$, where solubility of KTP was large enough to proceed the growth. Under such conditions, seed crystals of KTP are grown at a rate of approximately 0.06-0.08mm/day in the direction of the c-axis. Morphologies of grown crystals tended to be bounded by (100), (011) and (201) faces.
In order to elucidate the growth mechanism of sulfide chimney formed as a result of seafloor hydrothermal mineralization, we carried out the mineralogical and fluid inclusion studies on the inactive, sulfide- and silica-rich chimney which has been recovered from a hydrothermal field in the Cleft segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. According to previous studies, many active and inactive vents are present in the Cleft segment. The sulfide- and silica-rich chimney is composed of amorphous silica, pyrite, sphalerite and wurtzite with minor amounts of chalcopyrite and marcasite. The interior part of the chimney is highly porous and represents a flow channel. Open spaces within chimneys are typically coated with colloform layers of amorphous silica. The FeS content of Zn-sulfides varies widely from 13.9 to 34.3 mole% with Fe-rich core and Fe-poor rims. This variation possibly reflects the change of physicochemical characteristics of hydrothermal fluids. Chemical and mineralogical compositions of the each growth zone are also varied, possibly due to a thermal gradient. Based on the microthermometric measurements of liquid-rich, two-phase inclusions in amorphous silica that was precipitated in the late stage of mineralization, minimum trapping temperatures are estimated to be about 1140 to 145$^{\circ}$C with the salinities between 3.2 and 4.8 wt.% NaCI equiv. Although the actual fluid temperatures of the vent are not available, this study suggests that the lowtemperature conditions were predominant during the mineralization in the hydrothermal field at Cleft segment. Comparing with the previously reported chimney types, the morphology, colloform texture, bulk chemistry, and a characteristic mineral assemblage (pyrite + marcasite + wurtzite + amorphous silica) of this chimney indicate that the chimney have been formed from a relatively low-temperature (<250$^{\circ}$C) hydrothermal fluid that was changed by sluggish fluid flow and conductive cooling.
