Generally, not only in order to design three dimensional hydraulic structures such a spillway and to investigate the hydraulic phenomena concerning hydraulic facilities, but also to grasp shape and stability, we simulate actuality phenomenon through hydraulic model experiments. However, it requires too much times, expense and space to perform hydraulic model experiments, as well as it is very difficult to measure reduced scale of actual hydraulic structures. Besides, surface tension can exert fair effect in experiment result, and occasionally an experiment of various case is impossible actually. Therefore, there is necessity to draw proper early result through numerical analysis, and if decide the case of a hydraulic model experiment through the numerical analysis and compare the result, finally economical and reasonable design hydraulic structures are available. This study performs numerical analysis of overflow spillway and an experimental study of hydraulic model tests to design the optimal spillway and suggest a better design to improve hydraulic conditions. From the measurements, revised designs for an hydraulic structure are suggested and consequent improvement effects by the new design are also investigated.

Statistical concepts and methods are routinely utilized in a number of design and management problems in engineering hydrology. This is because most of hydrological processes have some degree of randomness and uncertainty. Thus, the concepts of risk and uncertainty are commonly utilized for designing and evaluating hydraulic structures such as spillways and dikes. Therefore, in this study, uncertainty analysis considering the variance of design floods is performed to evaluate the uncertainty of the hydrologic risk of flood related hydraulic structures using frequency analysis.

Hydraulic structures have been constructed with low cost concrete so as to increase the investment efficiency. But, it has caused to produce structures having excess internal voids inside concrete. As the construction of agricultural irrigation and drainage project is concentrated on off-farming season and scattered in wider area, variation of quality of structures is big and it caused increase of internal voids. Due to that reason, hazardous substance is passing rather freely through the voids causing occur of crack and accordingly life time of structures is getting shortened. It is necessary to make a thesis of design criteria for design strength to increase life time, range of variation of quality, strength of ready-mixed concrete proper to design strength, and water-cement ratio and air content.

Base isolation is an innovative design strategy that provides a practical alternative for the seismic design of structures. Base isolators, mainly employed to isolate large structures subjected to earthquake ground excitations and to rehabilitate structures damaged by past earthquakes, deflect and absorb the seismic energy horizontally transmitted to the structures. This study demonstrated that the base isolation system may offer effective performance for bridges during severe seismic events through shaking table tests. Two base isolation systems using laminated rubber bearings with and without hydraulic dampers are tested. The test results strongly show that the laminate rubber bearings cause the natural period of the bridge structure increased considerably, which results in the deck acceleration and the shear forces on the deck acceleratino and the shear forces on the piers reduced significantly. The results also demonstrate that the hydraulic dampers enhance the system's capacity in dissipating energy to reduce the relative displacement between the bridge deck and the pier.
The aluminum dome has been widely used in natatorium, oil storage tank, power plant, coal, as well as other industrial buildings and structures. However, few research has focused on the structural behavior and design method of this dome. At present, most designs of aluminum alloy domes have referred to theories and methods of steel spatial structures. However, aluminum domes and steel domes have many differences, such as elasticity moduli, roof structures, and joint rigidities, which make the design and analysis method of steel spatial structures not fully suitable for aluminum alloy dome structures. In this study, a stability analysis method, which can consider structural imperfection, member initial curvature, semi-rigid joint, and skin effect, was presented and used to study the stability behavior of aluminum dome structures. In addition, some meaningful conclusions were obtained, which could be used in future designs and analyses of aluminum domes.
All of the design criterion are not only formulated by an internal study, concerning the design of maritime structures, but also by the guarantee that internal design technology is essential, at least according to theoretical and experimental studies. Furthermore, the basic data, which is necessary for the development of a more stable design of breakwater structures, should be ensured, according to current research and analysis of damage created by water waves. According to the necessity to solve the problems that occur in the design and construction of ocean structures, until now, it is recognized that the hydraulic experiments are important. This paper provides the design of structures to decrease the energy created by waves. Suggestions to make contributions to the development of ocean/fisheries technology are also discussed. It is better to use S-type coastal structures/breakwaters than to use uniform type breakwaters, concerning stability, reflection, and overtopping.

In this study, various hydraulic phenomena were analyzed from the dam model experiments and the analyzed results were compared with existing computation results. Sungduk dam model structures were constructed using Froude similarity law by 1:50 scale. From the measurements of hydraulic phenomena at spillway channel, an improvement method was trying to be suggested over shortcoming of existing design plan. The result of model experiment showed no big difference with that of each part's numerical interpretation. Sidewall overflows were observed, as water conveyance occurred due to the linear characteristics of spillways, which raised the necessity for improving the linear forms of spillways. Also, it was judged to be necessary improving load pressure and establishing protective structures at the riverbed grounds of downstream channels.
Labyrinth weir is a hydraulic structure that can maintain constant water depth and increase overflow rate by increasing overflow width of weir through complicated displacement of its cross section. The labyrinth weir can be widely applied to various hydraulic facilities such as dam spillway, irrigation facilities, and canal structures. To date, however, few labyrinth weirs were applied to hydraulic facilities in Korea. Hence, in-depth research on labyrinth weir is highly required to efficiently apply the labyrinth weir to hydraulic facilities. This study was performed to analyze the hydraulic characteristics according to triangle labyrinth weir using hydraulic model experiments. The hydraulic characteristics provided in this study, which make it feasible to increase the overflow rate, and are expected to be widely applied to design of hydraulic facilities such as dam spillway and irrigation system.
Tunnels are generally constructed below the ground water table, which produces a long-term interaction between the tunnel lining and the surrounding geo-materials. Thus, in conjunction with tunnel design, the presence of water may require a number of considerations such as: leakage and water load. It has been reported that deterioration of a drainage system of tunnels is one of the main factors governing the long-term hydraulic and structural lining-ground interaction. Therefore, the design procedure of an underwater tunnel should address any detrimental effects associated with this interaction. In this paper an attempt to identify the coupled structural and hydraulic interaction between the lining and the ground was made using a numerical method. A main concern was given to local hindrance of flow into tunnels. Six cases of local deterioration of a drainage system were considered to investigate the effects of deterioration on tunnels. It is revealed that hindrance of flow increased pore-water pressure on the deteriorated areas, and caused detrimental effects on the lining structures. The analysis results were compared with those from fully permeable and impermeable linings.
