In Korea, quantitative growth rate of artificial reef construction is supposed to reach the peak point therefore, new approach is needed to the point of artificial reefs business. Functional reefs like shellfish reefs, recreational reefs, seaweed reefs as well as fish reefs are beneficial alternatives. This study conducted hydraulic testing to assess the stability of new types of artificial reefs (ARs) constructed to promote the growth of shellfish and seaweed. The results of this study revealed that some dimensionless design parameters affected the stability of new types of artificial reef under various wave and water depth conditions in the fixed bed condition. The findings also highlight the importance of hydraulic experiments in solving problems that have emerged in the design and construction of artificial reefs.
In order to dispose radioactive wastes safely, it is needed to understand the mechanical, thermal, fluid behavior of rockmass and physico-chemical interactions between rockmass and water. Also, the knowledge about mechanical and hydraulic properties of rocks is required to predict and to model many conditions of geological structure, underground in-situ stress, folding, hot water interaction, intrusion of magma, plate tectonics etc. This study is based on researches about rock mechanics issues associated with a waste disposal in deep rockmass. This paper includes the mechanical and hydraulic behavior of rocks in varying temperature conditions, thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling analysis in rock mass and deformation behavior of discontinuous rocks. The mechanical properties were measured with Interaken rock mechanics testing systems and hydraulic properties were measured with transient pulse permeability measuring systems. In all results, rock properties were sensitive to temperature variation.

Most power steering systems obtain the power by a hydraulic mechanism. Therefore, it consumes more energy because the oil power should be sustained all the times. Recently, to solve this problem the electric power system has been developed and become widely equipped in passenger vehicles. In this research the simulation integration technique for an electric power steering system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model with ADAMS has been developed. A full vehicle model interacted with electronic control unit algorithm is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.

In this study, an expansion joint that is susceptible to waterhammer was tested for its vibration durability. The operation data for the hydraulic actuator was the expansion length of the expansion joint when the waterhammer occurred. In the case of the vibration durability test, the internal temperature status of the expansion joint was assumed to be a stress factor and a lifespan prediction model was assumed to follow the Arrhenius model. A test was carried out by increasing the internal temperature status at $30^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, and $65^{\circ}C$. By a linear transformation of the lifespan data for each temperature, a constant value and activation energy coefficient was induced for the Arrhenius equation and verified by comparing the value of a lifetime prediction model with the experimental value at $85^{\circ}C$. The failure modes of the ongoing or finished test were leakage, bellows separation, and internal deformation. In the future, a composite lifespan prediction model, including two more stress factors, will be developed.
The prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) are one of the most widely used techniques to accelerate the consolidation of soft clay deposits and dredged soil. Discharge capacity is one of the factors affecting the behavior of PVDs. In the field, a PVD is confined by clay or dredged soil, which is normally remolded during PVD installation. Under field conditions, soil particles may enter the PVD drainage channels, and the consolidation settlement of the improved subsoil may cause 131ding of the PVD. These factors will affect the discharge capacity of the PVDs. In this study an experimental study was carried out to estimate the discharge capacity of three different types of PVDs by utilizing the large-scale laboratory model testing and small-scale laboratory model testing equipments. The several factors such as confinement condition (confined by soft marine clay or dredged soil) and variations of the discharge capacity were studied with time under soil specimen confinement, The test results indicated that discharge capacity decreases with increasing load, time, and hydraulic gradient. With load application, the cross-sectional area of the drainage channel of PVD decreases because the filter of PVD is pressed into the core. The discharge capacity of the soft marine clay-confined PVDs is much lower than that of the dredged soil-confined PVDs.
The specimens made by Z2CND18.12N austenitic stainless steel were conducted on a 100 kN closed loop servo hydraulic tension-compression testing machine with a digital controller. Uniaxial tension and uniaxial ratcheting effect tests were carried out at $25^{\circ}C$. Moreover, Uniaxial tension tests were conducted at $150^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$. Based on these experimental data, the prediction models of stress-strain curve and the relationship of ratcheting strain and number of cycles were established by the algorithm principle of BP neural network. The results indicated that the predicted results of neural network model were in well agreement with experimental data. It was found that the BP neural network model had high validity and accuracy.
Dynamic behaviours of reinforced concrete (RC) bending beams subjected to monotonic loading with different loading rates were studied. A dynamic experiment was carried out with the electro-hydraulic servo system manufactured by MTS (Mechanical Testing and Simulation) Systems Corporation to study the effect of loading rates on the mechanical behaviours of RC beams. The monotonic displacement control loading, with loading rates of 0.1 mm/s, 0.5 mm/s, 1 mm/s, 5 mm/s and 10 mm/s, was imposed. According to the test results, the effects of loading rates on the failure model and load-displacement curve of RC beams were investigated. The influences of loading rates on the cracking, ultimate, yield and failure strengths and displacements, ductility and dissipated energy capability of RC beams were studied. Then, the three-dimensional finite element models of RC beams, with the rate-dependent DP (Drucker-Prager) model of concrete and three rate-dependent model of steel reinforcement, were described and verified using the experimental results. Finally, the dynamic mechanical behaviours and deformation behaviours of the numerical results were compared with those of the experimental results.
This research describes the development model and testing of a hybrid damper which can be applicable to a vehicle suspension. The hybrid damper is devised to improve the performance of a conventional passive oil damper using a magneto-rheological (MR) accumulator which consists of a gas accumulator and a MR device. The level of damping is continuously variable by the means of control in the applied current in a MR device fitted to a floating piston which separates the gas and the oil chamber. A simple MR device is used to resist the movement of floating piston. At first a mathematical model which describes all flows within the conventional oil damper is formulated, and then a small MR device is also devised and adopted to a mathematical model to characterize the performance of the device.
The conventional method to assess turbine performance is its model testing which becomes costly and time consuming for several design alternatives in design optimization. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become a cost effective tool for predicting detailed flow information in turbine space to enable the selection of best design. In the present paper, Francis turbine of commercial small hydropower plants which is under 70kw is investigated. Solutions are investigated with respect to the hydraulic characteristics against an outward angle of guide vane, the number of guide vane and head (inlet velocity). By suitable modification of the runner shape, low pressure zone on the leading edge can be reduced. If the entire runner is to be optimized in this manner, flow simulation tests have to be carried out on a series of different geometrical shape.

The breaking wave pressure occurs when a plunging breaker instantaneously impinges on structural surface, and appears differently depending on whether or not to form air pockets at the instant of contact. The Wagner type normally forms a single pressure peak at the contact spot due to the direct collision of water volume to the structure whereas in the Bagnold type the time lagged oscillation of the air pocket causes pressure peaks even at areas away from the spot. In the present study, the Bagnold's impact pressure is numerically and experimentally investigated for the bulkhead of an underwater tunnel under construction which is subjected to nearby breaking waves. A numerical solver of Navier-Stokes equations was applied to reproduce the breaking waves near a bulkhead, and the results showed the Bagnold's impact pressure occurring on the back (land side) face of the bulkhead. The existence of the impact pressure was also verified by a hydraulic model testing, and it was found that the experimental results well conformed to their numerical counterparts.
