6.6 kW On-Vehicle Charger with a Hybrid Si IGBTs and SiC SBDs Based Booster Power Module

  • In this paper, a hybrid booster power module with Si IGBT and Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky Barrier Diode (SBDs) is presented. The switching characteristics of the hybrid booster module are compared with commercial Silicon IGBT/Si PIN diode based modules. We applied the booster power module into a non-isolated on board vehicle charger with a simple buck-booster topology. The performances of the on-vehicle charger are analyzed and measured with different power modules. The test data is measured in the same system, at the same points of operation, using the conventional Si and hybrid Si/SiC power modules. The measured power conversion efficiency of the proposed on-vehicle charger is 96.4 % with the SiC SBD based hybrid booster module. The conversion efficiency gain of 1.4 % is realizable by replacing the Si-based booster module with the Si IGBT/SiC SBD hybrid boost module in the 6.6 kW on-vehicle chargers.

  • This paper presents interleaved bi-directional LDC(Low DC-DC converter) with soft-switching for 48V system of Mild-HEV(Hybrid Electric Vehicles). The proposed LDC is composed of interleaved bi-directional converter and small resonant inductor and capacitors. Comparing the conventional converter, the proposed LDC improves the problem of switching loss by employing soft-switching. In this paper, mode analysis is described in detail for operating the soft-switching. The proposed LDC is verified by PSIM simulation.

Energy-efficiency enhancement and displacement-offset elimination for hybrid vibration control

  • New insights into our previously proposed hybrid-type method for vibration control are highlighted in terms of energy analysis, such as the assessment of energy efficiency and system stability. The hybrid method improves the bang-bang active method by combining it with an energy-recycling approach. Its simple configuration and low energy-consumption property are quite suitable especially for isolated structures whose energy sources are strictly limited. The harmful influence of the external voltage is assessed, as well as its beneficial performance. We show a new chattering prevention approach that both harvests electrical energy from piezoelectric actuators and eliminates the displacement-offset of the equilibrium point of structures. The amount of energy consumption of the hybrid system is assessed qualitatively and is compared with other control systems. Experiments and numerical simulations conducted on a 10-bay truss can provide a thorough energy-efficiency evaluation of the hybrid suppression system having our energy-harvesting system.

  • Recently, using the electronic devices was increased with semiconductor developments. So, the EMI(Electromagnetic interference) problem become to important issue for coexistence with each electronic devices. The EMI is caused by switching operation from the power switches as the FET and the transistor in power conversion devices. In this paper, the hybrid EMI filter that composed with active components and passive components was described. The EMI filter is applied to the 160 watts LED driver experimentally verify the performance. The hybrid EMI filter is compared with non-filter, only passive filter and only active filter. The proposed EMI filter attenuated CM noise more than traditional passive filter.

  • This paper deals with PWM patterns for harmonic reduction in inverter fed traction motors and the gear changing techniques for the variable speed drive of traction motor. GTOs are used as switching device of inverter because traction motor is a large load. To derive PWM rattern which can minimize the harmonics with the limited switching frequency, the output current and torque characteristic of SPWM and SHE PWM was analyzed. GTO inverter used for traction motor drive includes harmonics in the output current and torque by the limitation of switching frequency. However, the hybrid PWM method that adopt SPWM in the range of low frequency and SHE PWM in upper frequency range can achieve less harmonic characteristics in GTO inverters. If the traction motor is driven in variable speed by the proposed PWM pattern, 7 times of gear changing is needed. At the instant of the mode change, magnetic flux and torque may be altered and the large current flow. To reduce such an undesirable transient behavior, it is also presented the technique for the gear changing of inverter fed traction motor drive operated with the hybrid PWM. The results are verified by simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, Nonlinear VSS control based on bang-bang control concept is derived under the assumption that the control input is bounded. We try to derive control algorithm which has almost same performance as the time optimal control. We focus this control scheme on the real implementation of DC motor position controller of flexible link, i.e. we obtain the switching curves from the real data of DC motor system operating under the full maximum and minimum applied voltages. State space is separated into several regions and we set different switching surfaces in each region to reduce chattering problem. The efficiency of the proposed controller is compared with PID controller and it is shown that the controller converges fast than PID controller without chattering. The hybrid controller scheme is also proposed not only to control the position of hub but also to reduce the vibration of end tip of flexible link.

수렴속도 개선을 위한 하이브리드 자력 등화기 (Hybrid blind equalizer for improvement of convergence performance)

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid blind equalizer with TEA and SG (stop & Go) algorithm with switching point a 0 dB of MSE value for improvement of convergence performance, where TEA is used initially to open the eye and then SG algorithm as rapid convergence is employed. The switching point is selected at the point of 0 dB MSE level because of settling the coefficients of blind equalier. As a result of computer simulatons for 8-PAM in the non-minimum phase channel, the proposed algorithm has better convergence speed as 3,500 ~ 4,500 iterations and has better MsE about 3 ~ 6 dB than those of original TEA. Also, computational cost of proposed algorithm is reduced as 5 ~ 16% than that of original TEA. and, the proposed algorithm has better convergence than SG algorithm as 8,500 ~ 17,500 iteratins but, the MSE is similar to original SG.

A Hybrid DC/DC Converter for EV OBCs Using Full-bridge and Resonant Converters with a Single Transformer

  • This paper proposes a dc/dc converter for electric vehicle onboard chargers using a secondary resonant tank. To attain soft switching characteristics, such as zero voltage switching, magnetizing inductance has been used at the primary side of the transformer. The leakage inductance of the transformer is used as a resonant inductor on the secondary side to avoid the use of a separate inductor as resonance. The proposed converter is applicable for a wide load range. A 6.6KW prototype has been implemented for a wide range of load variations (250V, 330V, 360V, and 413V). A maximum efficiency of 97.4% is achieved at 413V.

  • In this paper, a new control scheme of Class-E inverter for Induction Heating (IH) Jar applications with clamped voltage characteristics using Pulse-Frequency-Modulation (PFM) is introduced. To reduce the voltage stress of switch, the proposed PFM control scheme doesn't need any auxiliary circuit in comparison to a family of Active Clamped Class-E (ACCE) inverter. It can decrease voltage stress of switch through modulation of switching frequency. The Class-E inverter using the proposed control scheme has the advantage of not only the same output power when it is compared with a Hybrid-Active Clamped Class-E (Hybrid-ACCE) inverter but also Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS), which are characteristics of conventional Class-E and ACCE inverter. The control principles and analysis of proposed method are explained in detail and its validity is verified through simulation and experimental results.

대용량 시분할-파장분할 하이브리드 광 ATM 스위치 구조 (Architecture of time-division -division hybrid photonic ATM switch with large capacity)

  • 본 논문에서는 시분할 다중화와 파장분할 다중화방식이 혼합된 광 ATM 스위치의 구조를 제안하였다. 제안된 구조의 광 ATM 스위치는 파장분할 다중화를 위한 도파로일 격자와 시분할 다중화를 위한 광압축기와 광파이버 지연선의 기본적인 모듈로 구성되어 있다. 다른 교환기 구조와 비교해 볼 때 제안된 스위치 구조는 하드웨어적으로 간단하고, 비용면에서도 매우 유리할 뿐더러 대 용량의 정보교환도 가능하기 때문에 광대역 종합정보통신망에 적합한 스위칭 시스템이다.
