Conflicts in Overlay Environments: Inefficient Equilibrium and Incentive Mechanism

  • Overlay networks have been widely deployed upon the Internet by Service Providers (SPs) to provide improved network services. However, the interaction between each overlay and traffic engineering (TE) as well as the interaction among co-existing overlays may occur. In this paper, we adopt both non-cooperative and cooperative game theory to analyze these interactions, which are collectively called hybrid interaction. Firstly, we model a situation of the hybrid interaction as an n+1-player non-cooperative game, in which overlays and TE are of equal status, and prove the existence of Nash equilibrium (NE) for this game. Secondly, we model another situation of the hybrid interaction as a 1-leader-n-follower Stackelberg-Nash game, in which TE is the leader and co-existing overlays are followers, and prove that the cost at Stackelberg-Nash equilibrium (SNE) is at least as good as that at NE for TE. Thirdly, we propose a cooperative coalition mechanism based on Shapley value to overcome the inherent inefficiency of NE and SNE, in which players can improve their performance and form stable coalitions. Finally, we apply distinct genetic algorithms (GA) to calculate the values for NE, SNE and the assigned cost for each player in each coalition, respectively. Analytical results are confirmed by the simulation on complex network topologies.

  • This paper describes the DC-DC Converter for Ancillary Power Supply in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. DC-DC Converter is used for charging 12V auxiliary battery supplying electric power to head ramp, audio, ECU etc in automobiles. used DC-DC Converter Topology is PS-ZVS FB(Phase Shifted Zero Voltage Switching Full-Bridge) to reduce switching loss and EMI noise induced by high frequency operating condition. And For easy compensation and stable system response characteristic, current mode control method including slope compensation is employed. Constant current / constant voltage charging control method guarantee stable electric charging of auxiliary battery. Simulation toll PSIM6.0 is used for initial circuit parameter settings and H/W debuging. Thermal problems of Switching components in DC-DC Converter is improved by using Thermo Tracer.

A Novel Hybrid Converter with Wide Range of Soft-Switching and No Circulating Current for On-Board Chargers of Electric Vehicles

  • In this paper, a novel hybrid configuration combining a phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) and a half-bridge resonant LLC converter is proposed for the On-Board Charger of Electric Vehicles (EVs). In the proposed converter, the PSFB converter shares the lagging-leg switches with half-bridge resonant converter to achieve the wide ZVS range for the switches and to improve the efficiency. The output voltage is modulated by the effective-duty-cycle of the PSFB converter. The proposed converter employs an active reset circuit composed of an active switch and a diode for the transformer which makes it possible to achieve zero circulating current and the soft switching characteristic of the primary switches and rectifier diodes regardless of the load, thereby making the converter highly efficient and eliminating the reverse recovery problem of the diodes. In addition an optimal power sharing strategy is proposed to meet the specification of the charger and to optimize the efficiency of the converter. The operation principle the proposed converter and design considerations for high efficiency are presented. A 6.6 kW prototype converter is fabricated and tested to evaluate its performance at different conditions. The peak efficiency achieved with the proposed converter is 97.7%.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid single carrier sinusoidal modulation suitable for multiphase multilevel inverters. Multiphase multilevel inverters are controlled by hybrid modulation to provide multiphase variable voltage and a variable frequency supply. The proposed modulation combines the benefits of fundamental frequency modulation and single carrier sinusoidal modulation (SC-SPWM) strategies. The main characteristics of hybrid modulation are a reduction in switching losses and improved harmonic performance. The proposed algorithm can be applied to cascaded multilevel inverter topologies. It has low computational complexity and it is suitable for hardware implementations. SC-SPWM and its base modulation design are implemented on a TMS320F2407 digital signal processor (DSP). A Complex Programmable Logic Device realizes the hybrid PWM algorithm and it is integrated with a DSP processor for hybrid SC-SPWM generation. The feasibility of this hybrid modulation is verified by spectral analysis, power loss analysis, simulation and experimental results.

  • Hybrid fault current limiters (FCL) have been researched at Yonsei University. The hybrid FCL has advantages such as having a rapid response to a sudden fault situation and a fast recovery time from a quench. It consists of an asymmetric HTS coil, a switching module, and a bypass reactor. The asymmetric HTS coil is wound with two different types of HTS wires in an opposite direction so that it has nearly zero inductance at the superconducting state. When the quench occurs at the fault state, a strong magnetic field is generated from the asymmetric coil because of different quench characteristics of two HTS wires, and then a repulsive force is induced in the switching module. The force opens the switch and the fault current is pushed into the bypass reactor. In this research, we analyzed the cause of the repulsive force and confirmed, experimentally and computationally, that the magnitude of a repulsive force is varied by changing the gap distance between the asymmetric coil and the switching module. By using the FEM simulation, we calculated the repulsive force with respect to the gap distance and verified that the effect of the gap distance. Then, short circuit test was carried out to confirm the correct operation of the fast switch.

  • V-I characteristics of Fe(100)/MgO(100)/Cu-phthalocyanine (CuPc)/Co hybrid magnetic tunnel junctions were investigated at different temperatures. Fe(100) and Co ferromagnetic layers were separated by an organic-inorganic hybrid barrier consisting of different thickness of CuPc thin film grown on a 2 nm thick epitaxial MgO(100) layer. As the CuPc thickness increases from 0 to 10 nm, a bistable switching behavior due to strong charging effects was observed, while a very large magenetoresistance was shown at 77 K for the junctions without the CuPc barrier. This switching behavior decreases with the increase in temperature, and finally disappears beyond 240 K. In this work, high-potential future applications of the MgO(100)/CuPc bilayer were discussed for hybrid spintronic devices as well as polymer random access memories (PoRAMs).

Wireless Power Transfer for Electric Vehicles Charging Based on Hybrid Topology Switching With a Single Inverter

  • In wireless power transfer (WPT) system, the conventional compensation topologies only can provide a constant current (CC) or constant voltage (CV) output under their resonant conditions. It is difficult to meet the CC and CV hybrid charging requirements without any other schemes. In this study, a switching hybrid topology (SHT) is proposed for CC and CV electric vehicle (EV) battery charging. By utilizing an additional capacitor and two AC switches (ACSs), a double-side LCC (DS-LCC) and an inductor and double capacitors-series (LCC-S) topologies are combined. According to the specified CC and CV charging profile, the CC and CV charging modes can be flexibly converted by the two additional ACSs. In addition, zero phase angle (ZPA) also can be achieved in both charging modes. In this method, because the operating frequency is fixed, without using PWM control, and only a small number of devices are added, it has the benefits of low-cost, easy-controllability and high efficiency. A 3.3-kW experimental prototype is configured to verify the proposed switching hybrid charger. The maximum DC efficiencies (at 3.3-kW) of the proposed SHT is 92.58%.

  • This paper reports the performance of Wind-PV(Photovoltaic) hybrid system. The output power of PV is affected by the environmental factors such as solar radiation and cell temperature. Also, the output power of wind system is generated with wind power. Integration of Wind and PV resources, which are generally complementary, usually reduce the capacity of the battery. This paper includes discussion on system reliability, power quality and effects of the randomness of the wind and the solar radiation on system design.

  • In this study, we fabricated a parallelly connected Li-ion battery/supercapacitor hybrid cell to combine the advantageous characteristics of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, high energy density and high power density, respectively, and investigated its discharging characteristics over a wide temperature range from -40 to $25^{\circ}C$. At the initial state of discharging of the hybrid cell, the power was mostly provided by the supercapacitor and then the portion of the Li-ion battery was gradually increased. By installing a switching system into the hybrid cell, which controls the discharging sequence of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, the maximum power was improved by 40% compared with non switching system. In addition at low temperatures, the power and discharging time of the hybrid cell were significantly enhanced compared to a battery-alone system. The hybrid cell is expected to be applied in electric vehicles and small domestic appliances that require high power at initial discharging state.

Development of a Service Hybrid Mobile Robot for Climbing Stairs and Thresholds by Switching Wheel and Leg Gait (바퀴/4 족 동작 전환으로 계단 및 문턱 오르기가 가능한 서비스 하이브리드 이동 로봇 개발)

  • In this paper, we developed a new hybrid mobile robot which can climb stairs and go over thresholds by crawl gait with embedded real-time control software. This robot is also categorized into hybrid robot that has advantages of wheeled mobile robot and legged mobile robot, but adopts gait feature of crocodile named belly crawl. We imitated the belly crawl using four legs of 2 DOF, four omni-directional wheels, and embedded control software which controls legs and wheels. This software is developed using RTAI/Linux, real-time drivers. As a result, the new hybrid mobile robot has crawl gait. Using this feature, the new hybrid mobile robot can climb stairs and go over thresholds just by path planning of each leg with size of stairs and thresholds, and computing the movement distance of robot body center without considering stability. The performance of our new hybrid mobile robot is verified via experiments.
