  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum length distribution of hybrid PVA(Poly vinyl alcohol) fiber. To produce blended PVA fiber length, first the length distribution of PVA fiber in the cement composites were identified in an experimental study based on simplex lattice design. Among the different length distributions investigated, fiber length was found to have statistically significant effect on plastic shrinkage cracking of cement composites. Subsequently, Complex analysis techniques were used to devise an experimental program that helped determine the optimum combinations of the selected fiber length distribution based on plastic shrinkage crack. The optimum blended PVA length ratio was 0.0146% 4mm fiber, 0.0060% 6-mm fiber, 0.0285% 8-mm fiber, and 0.0209% 12-mm fiber.

  • Corrosion of reinforcing steel bars is a major concern for ocean engineers when reinforced concrete structures are exposed to marine environments. Evaluating the degree of corrosion and corrosion-induced defects is extremely necessary to pursue a proper retrofit or rehabilitation plan for reinforced concrete structures. A promising inspection should be carried out for the evaluation, otherwise the retrofit or rehabilitation process would be useless. Nowadays, ultrasonic guided wave-based inspection techniques become quite promising for the inspection, mainly because of their long-range propagation capability and their sensitivity to different types of defects or conditions. Evaluating haw the guided waves response to the different types of defects or conditions is quite challenging and important. This study shows how surface conditions of reinforcing bars and a corrosion-induced defect, separation, affect guided wave propagation in reinforced concrete. Experiments and associated signal analysis show the sensitivity of guided waves to the surface conditions, as well as the amounts of separation at the interface between. concrete and steel bar.

  • An attempt is made to develop a kind of hybrid numerical method for computations of the thermal stresses during a solidification process. In this algorithm, the phase-change heat transfer analysis is perrformed by a finite volume method(FVM) and the thermal stress analysis in a solidifying body by a finite element method(FEM). The temperatures at the grid points calculated in the heat transfer analysis are transferred to those of gauss points in elements by a bi-cubic surface patch technique for the thermal stress analysis. A hyperbolic-sine constitutive law is used to prescribe the inelastic strain rate of material. Results for the unidirectional solidification process of a pure aluminum are compared with those of others and shows good agreement.

  • Risk stratification and assessment of prognosis in patients with known or suspected CAD is of crucial important for the practice of contemporary medicine. Noninvasive testing such as myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, coronary artery calcium scoring or CT coronary angiography is increasingly being used to determine the need for aggressive medical therapy and to select patients for catheterization. The integrated anatomic and functional information may provide more additional information for the cardiologist or other clinician by the improved risk stratification and diagnostic accuracy of integrated techniques. The development of SPECT/CT or PET/CT hybrid systems is therefore of important value for the nuclear cardiology.

  • In this paper we first propose a new cryptosystem based on our data hiding scheme (2,9,8) introduced in 2019 with high security, where encrypting and hiding are done at once, the ciphertext does not depend on the input image size as existing hybrid techniques of cryptography and steganography. We then exploit our automata approach presented in 2019 to design two algorithms for exact and approximate pattern matching on secret data encrypted by our cryptosystem. Theoretical analyses remark that these algorithms both have O(n) time complexity in the worst case, where for the approximate algorithm, we assume that it uses ⌈(1-ε)m)⌉ processors, where ε, m and n are the error of our string similarity measure and lengths of the pattern and secret data, respectively. In searchable encryption, our cryptosystem is used by users and our pattern matching algorithms are performed by cloud providers.

  • The postsynaptic density (PSD) is a cytoskeletal specialization that is involved in the regulation of synaptic signal transduction. Mainly due to the hydrophobic nature of the PSD proteins, characterization of this intriguing structure at the molecular level has been very intractable until early 1990s. However, recent development in protein microchemistry and molecular cloning techniques allowed identification and characterization of the PSD proteins. As expected, cytoskeletal proteins constitute major components of the PSD. Other major PSD proteins have been identified by protein sequencing, and their genes were used to fish out associating proteins by yeast two-hybrid system expanding our knowledge on the molecular structure of the PSD significantly. In this review, I summarize proteins that are so far identified focusing on the glutamatergic synapses.

  • In this paper, we propose a new hybrid wear leveling technique for NAND Flash memory, called Time-Aware Wear Leveling (TAWL). Our proposal prolongs the lifetime of NAND Flash memory by using dynamic wear leveling technique which considers the wear level of hot blocks as well as static wear leveling technique which considers the wear level of the whole blocks. TAWL also reduces the overhead of garbage collection by separating hot data and cold data using update frequency rate. We showed that TAWL enhanced the lifetime of NAND flash memory up to 220% compared with previous wear leveling techniques and our technique also reduced the number of copy operations of garbage collections by separating hot and cold data up to 45%.

  • This paper proposes a new baseline-free TR-based SHM method in which the time-reversal (TR) property of the guided Lamb waves is utilized. The new TR-based SHM method has two distinct features when compared with the other existing SHM techniques: (1) The measurement- based backward TR process is replaced by the computation-based process (2) In place of the comparison method most commonly used for SHM, the TOF information of the damage signal extracted from the reconstructed signal is utilized for the damage diagnosis. For the damage diagnosis, the imaging method is adopted to efficiently detect damage by representing the damage as an image. The proposed TR-based SHM technique is then validated through the damage diagnosis experiment for an aluminum plate with a damage at different locations.
