A Simple Power Management Scheme with Enhanced Stability for a Solar PV/Wind/Fuel Cell Fed Standalone Hybrid Power Supply using Embedded and Neural Network Controller

  • This paper propose a new power conditioner topology with intelligent power management controller that integrates multiple renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and fuel cell energy with battery backup to make best use of their operating characteristics and obtain better reliability than that could be obtained by single renewable energy based power supply. The proposed embedded controller is programmed for maintaining a constant voltage at PCC, maximum power point tracking for solar PV panel and WTG and power flow control by regulating the reference currents of the controller on instantaneous basis based on the power delivered by the sources and load demand. Instantaneous variation in reference currents of the controller enhances the controller response as it accommodates the effect of continuously varying solar insolation and wind speed in the power management. The power conditioner uses a battery bank with embedded controller based online SOC estimation and battery charging system to suitably sink or source the input power based on the load demand. The simulation results of the proposed power management system for a standalone solar/WTG/fuel cell fed hybrid power supply with real time solar radiation and wind velocity data collected from solar centre, KEC for a sporadically varying load demand is presented in this paper and the results are encouraging in reliability and stability perspective.

  • Track circuit is a simple electrical device which lies in the connection of the two rails by the wheels and axle of locomotives and rolling stock to short out an electrical circuit, used to detect the absence of a train on rail tracks. In railway signaling system, there are similar systems such as RFID and wheel sensor, GPS etc, are research and developing. Hybrid track circuit is using RFID antenna and reader on the cab and RFID tag on the sleeper. because of the safety in railway operation, tag detection of train position detection function in the hybrid track circuit needs high reliability. This paper studied tag recognition enhancement used tag angles.

A CDN-P2P Hybrid Architecture with Location/Content Awareness for Live Streaming Services

  • The hybrid architecture of content delivery networks (CDN) and peer-to-peer overlay networks (P2P) is a promising technology enables effective real-time streaming services. It complements the advantages of quality control and reliability in a CDN, and the scalability of a P2P system. With real-time streaming services, however, high connection setup and media delivery latency are becoming the critical issues in deploying the CDN-P2P system. These issues result from biased peer selection without location awareness or content awareness, and can lead to significant service disruption. To reduce service disruption latency, we propose a group-based CDN-P2P hybrid architecture (iCDN-P2P) with a location/content-aware selection of peers. Specifically, a SuperPeer network makes a location-aware peer selection by employing a content addressable network (CAN) to distribute channel information. It also manages peers with content awareness, forming a group of peers with the same channel as the sub-overlay. Through a performance evaluation, we show that the proposed architecture outperforms the original CDN-P2P hybrid architecture in terms of connection setup delay and media delivery time.

  • Recently, the application of aluminum alloys has been increasing for lightweight and high quality transport vehicles. Therefore, the proposal has been made to apply high speed hybrid welding methods to the marine grade aluminum alloy (A5052) used for shipbuilding by combining a 3-KW CW Nd : YAG laser and the MIG welding process. In this study, the characteristics of the welding parameters were investigated for a hybrid butt joint. This paper also describes the determination of the heat distribution in a weldment and the welding residual stress using a finite element method. Mechanical experimentation was also used to ascertain the reliability of the weldment.

  • AFC (Adaptive Feedforward Control) is significantly employed for improving control performance of dynamic systems particularly involving periodic disturbance signals in engineering fields. This paper presents a novel hybrid AFC approach for discrete-time systems with multiple disturbances in terms of control input and state variables. The proposed AFC mechanism is hierarchically composed of a conventional feedforward control framework and PID auxiliary control configuration in parallel. The former is generic to decrease periodic disturbance excited to control actuators and the latter is additionally constructed to overcome control deterioration due to time-varying uncertainty under given systems. We carry out numerical simulation to test reliability of our proposed hybrid AFC system and compare its control performance to a well-known conventional AFC method with respect to time and frequency domains for proving of its superiority.

  • In many countries including Korea, in order to transmit the more electric power, the higher transmission line voltage is inevitable. So, a rapid reclosing scheme is important for EHV/UHV transmission lines to ensure requirements for high reliability of main lines. A critical aspect of reclosing operation is the extinction of the secondary arc since it must extinguish before successful reclosure can occur. Therefore the accurate simulation techniques of arcing faults are of importance. And successful reclosing switching can be accomplished by adopting a proper method such as HSGS and hybrid scheme to reduce the secondary arc extinction time. First of all, this paper discusses a suggested arc model, which have time dependent resistance for primary arc and piecewise linear approximated arc model for secondary arc. And this simulation technique is applied to Korean 765 kV transmission lines. Also hybrid scheme is simulated and evaluated for the purpose of shortening dead time. For adaptive reclosing scheme, variable dead time control algorithm is suggested. Two kinds of algorithm are tested. One is max tracking algorithm and the other is rms tracking algorithm. According to simulation results, rms tracking has less errors than max tracking. Therefore rms tracking is applied to Korean 765 kV transmission lines with hybrid scheme.

Theoretical Study on the Performance in a Solar-Geothermal Hybrid R22 Heat Pump During Winter Season according to Heat Source Temperature (열원의 온도변화에 따른 겨울철 태양열-지열 하이브리드 R22 열펌프의 성능에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • The Solar and geothermal energy have many advantage like low cost, non-toxic, and unlimited. But those the have very low energy efficiency. In this study, the theoretical study of performance in a sola-geothermal hybrid heat pump with operating conditions has carried out. As a result, as the solar radiation increases from 1 $MJ/m^2$ to 20 $MJ/m^2$, the heat pump operating time decreases by 19.5% from 18 times to 14.5 times and the heat pump heat decreases by 23%. Besides, the heating COP increases by 21.4% when the evaporator inlet temperature increases from $11^{\circ}C$ to $19^{\circ}C$. By adapting the geothermal system into a solar hybrid R22 heat pump, the system performance and reliability increases significantly for variable operating conditions during winter season.

  • The effect of the Pt electrode and the $Pt-IrO_2$ hybrid electrode on the performance of ferroelectric device was investigated. The modified Pt thin films with non-columnar structure significantly reduced the oxidation of TiN diffusion barrier layer, which rendered it possible to incorporate the simple stacked structure of Pt/TiN/poly-Si plug. When a $Pt-IrO_2$ hybrid electrode is applied, PZT thin film properties are influenced by the thickness and the partial coverage of the electrode layers. The optimized $Pt-IrO_2$ hybrid electrode significantly enhanced the fatigue properties with minimal leakage current.

  • In recent years, technology for storing a preliminary power or a surplus of photovoltaic energy is required. This technique, as well as store a preliminary energy and improve the reliability of the gird safety. This system can plan a efficient power generation through the flexibility of the power supply from the perspective of not only provider but also user. Accordingly, the realization of the smart grid can be expected. This paper proposes a hybrid PCS using a photovoltaic and a lithium-polymer battery with the characteristics of high density energy. The main energy source of a hybrid PCS is a photovoltaic, grid and the auxiliary energy source is a lithium-polymer battery. The operation of a proposed system in this paper is verified with simulation and experimental results.

  • Ground firing test facility and test field for firing test of hybrid rocket engine were constructed. Ground firing test facility were composed of hybrid rocket engine, thrust stand, oxidizer storage/supply system, control system and data acquisition system. Firing tests of thrust 50 kgf class were conducted. Stable performance data was obtained and operational reliability of ground firing test facility were found.
