A Study on Regression Rate in End-Burning Hybrid rocket with Variation of Swirl Intensity (End-Burning 하이브리드 로켓의 스월 강도 변화에 따른 연료 후퇴율에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the regression rate of the End-Burning Hybrid Rocket with variation of swirl intensity was investigated experimentally with the variation of fuel diameter, injector shape and angle. When fuel grain diameter is large, fuel mass flow rate increases. And the injector diameter increase, fuel regression rate decrease. The impinging effect of oxidizer flow on fuel surface for fuel combustion efficiency is stronger than swril effect in this End-burning propulsion system. The relation between the regression rate, oxidizer mass flux and swirl intensity was obtained.

  • This paper presents the new hybrid data mining technique using error pattern, modeling of improving classification accuracy. The proposed method improves classification accuracy by combining two different supervised learning methods. The main algorithm generates error pattern modeling between the two supervised learning methods(ex: Neural Networks, Decision Tree, Logistic Regression and so on.) The Proposed modeling method has been applied to the simulation of 10,000 data sets generated by Normal and exponential random distribution. The simulation results show that the performance of proposed method is superior to the existing methods like Logistic regression and Discriminant analysis.

  • In this study, experimental studies were performed the combustion characteristics of end- burning hybrid propulsion system. PMMA, PE were used as fuel and gas oxygen as oxidizer. The regression rate depend on oxidizer flow rate also on thermodynamic properties of fuel. as result, empirical formula for regression rate was deduces with oxidizer flow rate and mass transfer coefficient B number.

  • This study is attempted to propose a new hybrid artificial intelligence model called integrative genetic algorithm with multivariate adaptive regression splines (GA-MARS) for settlement prediction of shallow foundations on sandy soils. In this hybrid model, the evolution algorithm - Genetic Algorithm (GA) was used to search and optimize the hyperparameters of multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS). For this purpose, a total of 180 experimental data were collected and analyzed from available researches with five-input variables including the bread of foundation (B), length to width (L/B), embedment ratio (Df/B), foundation net applied pressure (qnet), and average SPT blow count (NSPT). In further analysis, a new explicit formulation was derived from MARS and its accuracy was compared with four available formulae. The attained results indicated that the proposed GA-MARS model exhibited a more robust and better performance than the available methods.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to clarify the combustion characteristics and merge characteristics of PMMA-GOX and PE-GOX hybrid motor using multi-port fuel grain configuration. The regression rate of multi-port fuel grain is higher than the regression rate of single-port fuel grain by thermal conduction and chamber pressure. The merge of multi-port has an effect on hybrid rocket performance by change of a combustion area.

  • In this study, the measurement uncertainty of combustion experimental system and experimental parameters for hybrid rocket were evaluated by B type evaluation method. The measurement uncertainty of all experimental parameters was lower than 3%. The highest value of expanded uncertainty was characteristic velocity efficiency with 2.83% and the expanded uncertainty of regression rate which is the design and performance parameter was indicated to 0.03%. These results shown that the reliability of hybrid combustion system was located within allowed limits.

  • This paper describes the structural safety of solid fuel in the Hybrid Rocket Motor (HRM). Hybrid rocket combustion has the distinct regression characteristics which include the process of thermal pyrolysis and fuel vaporization. Most of all, this regression characteristics would structurally affect the strength of the fuel having a multi-port configuration, and even may cause the breaking from the fuel grain. This problem would probably influence the performance and operating safety of HRM. Therefore, for the safe operation of HRM, the critical port radius which determines the structurally safe region was discussed from the heat analysis of the solid fuel.

  • In general, burning time is not considered with a factor of an empirical relation on the combustion characteristic in hybrid propulsion system. So, The effect of burning time on hybrid combustion characteristics and propulsion characteristics was studied. As results, regression rate is decrease with burning time, but fuel mass flux is maintained nearly constant with burning time at given oxidizer mass flux.

  • In this study, we analyze the combustion characteristic of GOx/PE hybrid rocket, by changing port diameter of the propellant. To study combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket, GOx is used for oxidizer and PolyEthylene is used for solid propellant. Regression rate and O/F ratio of the rocket is measured and presented.

  • Recently, there have been many research efforts to improve the fuel regression rate in the hybrid rocket engines. In the present study, the ongoing research and development of the next general ion hybrid rocket engine are systematically reviewed. The detailed discussions have been made for the innovative combust ion technologies including the vortex hybrid rocket engines , cryogenic sol id propellant hybrid rocket engine, and the gas generator hybrid rocket engines.
