A parametric study has been conducted to investigate the effect of the geometry on the strength of an unidirectional and fabric hybrid laminated composite joint. Tests are conducted for the specimens with nine different edge-to-hole diameter or width-to-hole diameter ratios. For the finite element analysis, the characteristic length method is used, and the tests for determining the characteristic length are performed additionally. Nonlinear contact problem between the pin and laminate is modeled by the gap element in MSC/NASTRAN. Tsai-Wu failure criteria is applied to the stress on the characteristic curve. The finite element and experimental results shows good agreement in strength of composite joint. Results of the parametric study shows the effect of the geometry is remarkable in the specimens with width-to-hole diameter ratio less than 2.8 and edge-to-hole diameter ratio less than 1.4.
In this paper, we deal with the kinematic and dynamic modeling of hybrid robotic systems that are constructed by combination of parallel and serial modules or series of parallel modules. Previously, open-tree structure has been employed for dynamic modeling of hybrid robotic systems. Though this method is generally used, however, it requires expensive computation as the size of the system increases. Therefore, we propose an efficient dynamic modeling methodology for hybrid robotic systems. Initially, the dynamic model for the proximal module is obtained with respect to the independent joint coordinates. Then, in order to represent the operational dynamics of the proximal module, we model virtual joints attached at the top platform of the proximal module. The dynamic motion of the next module exerts dynamic forces to the virtual joints, which in fact is equivalent to the reaction forces exerted on the platform of the lower module by the dynamics of the upper module. Then, the dynamic forces at the virtual joints are distributed to the independent joints of the proximal module. For multiple modules, this scheme can be constructed as a recursive dynamic formulation, which results in reduction of the complexness of the open-tree structure method for modeling of hybrid robotic systems. Simulation for inverse dynamics is performed to validate the proposed modeling algorithm.

An application of innovative laser+GMA hybrid welding process is presented for reducing bead humping defects in high speed welding and increasing side wall fusion in narrow groove welding without torch or wire oscillation. In this hybrid process, the laser heat input is applied adjacent to the weld pool at a relatively low power density to produce a wider, flatter weld bead. In bead on plate in sheet metal gauges, the hybrid process was able to produce hump-free welds from 70ipm (${\sim}1780mm/min$) to over 150ipm (${\sim}3810mm/min$) of the travel speed compared to the un-assisted GMAW process. A square-butt joint in 15mm A572 Gr50 steel welds was investigated. A square butt joint with a gap of 3.2mm was filled with 6 passes. Liquid Nitrogen calorimetry and innovative $CO_2$ laser reflective optics were also developed to demonstrate the concept of hybrid welding.

The objective of this work is to analyze by traction tests, the mechanical behavior of an assembly of type metal / metal by various assembly processes; bonding, riveting and hybrid, on the one hand to show the advantage of a hybrid assembly with respect to the other processes, and on the other hand, to analyze by the finite element method the distribution of the stresses in the various components of the structure and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the use of a hybrid assembly with respect to other processes. The number of rivets has been considered. The results show clearly that the value of the different stresses is reduced in the case of a hybrid junction and that the number of rivets in an assembly can be reduced by using a hybrid joint.
The past earthquakes revealed the importance of the design of moment-resisting reinforced concrete framed structures with ductile behavior. Due to seismic activity, failures in framed structures are widespread in beam-column joints. Hence, the joints must be designed to possess sufficient strength and stiffness. This paper investigates the effects of fibers on the ductility of hybrid fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (HFRSCC) when subjected to seismic actions; overcoming bottlenecks at the beam-column joints has been studied by adding low modulus sisal fiber and high modulus steel fiber. For this, the optimized dose of hooked end steel fiber content (1.5%) was kept constant, and the sisal fiber content was varied at the rate of 0.1%, up to 0.3%. The seismic performance parameters, such as load-displacement behavior, ductility, energy absorption capacity, stiffness degradation, and energy dissipation capacity, were studied. The ductility factor and the cumulative energy dissipation capacity of the hybrid fiber (steel fiber, 1.5% and sisal fiber, 0.2%) added beam-column joint specimen is 100% and 121% greater than the control specimen, respectively. And also the stiffness of the hybrid fiber reinforced specimen is 100% higher than the control specimen. Thus, the test results showed that adding hybrid fibers instead of mono fibers could significantly enhance the seismic performance parameters. Therefore, the hybrid fiber reinforced concrete with 1.5% steel and 0.2% sisal fiber can be effectively used to design structures in seismic-prone areas.
The effect of weldbond hybrid joining process on the mechanical behavior of single lap and L-tensile joints was investigated for the newly developed 1.2GPa grade ultra high strength TRIP(transformation induced plasticity) steel. In the case of single lap shear behavior, the weldbond joint of 1.2GPa TRIP steel showed lower maximum tensile load and elongation than that of the adhesive bonding only. It was considered to be due to the reduction of real adhesion area, which was caused by the degradation of adhesive near the spot weld, and the brittle fracture behavior of the spot weld joint. In the case of L-tensile behavior, however, the maximum tensile load of the weldbond joint of 1.2GPa TRIP steel was dramatically increased and the fracture mode was change to the base metal fracture which is desirable for the spot weld joint. These synergic effect of the weldbond hybrid joining process in 1.2GPa TRIP steel was considered to be due to the stress dissipation around the spot weld joint by the presence of adhesive which resulted in the change of crack propagation path.

In the present study, UHF (320 MHz) in combination with RF (13.56 MHz) plasmas was used for the synthesis of hydrogenated silicon nitride (SiNx:H) films by PECVD process at low temperature. RF/UHF hybrid plasmas were maintained at a fixed pressure of 410 mTorr in the N2/SiH4 and N2/SiH4/NH3 atmospheres. To investigate the radical generation and plasma formation and their control for the growth of the film, plasma diagnostic tools like vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (VUVAS), optical emission spectroscopy (OES), and RF compensated Langmuir probe (LP) were utilized. Utilization of RF/UHF hybrid plasmas enables very high plasma densities ~ 1011 cm-3 with low electron temperature. Measurements using VUVAS reveal the UHF source is quite effective in the dissociation of the N2 gas to generate more active atomic N. It results in the enhancement of the Si-N bond concentration in the film. Consequently, the deposition rate has been significantly improved up to 2nm/s for the high rate synthesis of highly transparent (up to 90 %) SiNx:H film. The films properties such as optical transmittance and chemical composition are investigated using different analysis tools.
Hybrid radio frequency/free space optical (RF/FSO) wireless mesh networks have attracted increasing attention for they can overcome the limitations of RF and FSO communications and significantly increase the throughput of wireless mesh networks (WMNs). In this article, a resource assignment optimization scheme is proposed for hybrid RF/FSO wireless mesh networks. The optimization framework is proposed for the objective of maximizing throughput of overall hybrid networks through joint transmission slot assignment, FSO links allocation and power control with the consideration of the fading nature of RF and FSO links. The scheme is formulated as an instance of mixed integer linear program (MILP) and the optimal solutions are provided using CPLEX and Gurobi optimizers. How to choose the appropriate optimizer is discussed by comparing their performance. Numerous simulations are done to demonstrate that the performance of our optimization scheme is much better than the current case of having the same topology.
In this paper, we study an asymmetric two-way relaying network where two source nodes intend to exchange information with the help of multiple relay nodes. A hybrid time-division broadcast relaying scheme with joint relay selection (RS) and power allocation (PA) is proposed to realize energy-efficient transmission. Our scheme is based on the asymmetric level of the two source nodes' target signal-to-noise ratio indexes to minimize the total power consumed by the relay nodes. An optimization model with joint RS and PA is studied here to guarantee hybrid relaying transmissions. Next, with the aid of our proposed intelligent optimization algorithm, which combines a genetic algorithm and a simulated annealing algorithm, the formulated optimization model can be effectively solved. Theoretical analyses and numerical results verify that our proposed hybrid relaying scheme can substantially reduce the total power consumption of relays under a traffic asymmetric scenario; meanwhile, the proposed intelligent optimization algorithm can eventually converge to a better solution.

In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joint regions using hybrid retrofitting with AFRP sheets and embedded CFRP reinforcements in existing reinforced concrete building. Therefore it was constructed and tested three specimens retrofitting the beam-column joint regions using such retrofitting materials. Specimens, designed by retrofitting the beam-column joint regions of existing reinforced concrete structure, were showed the stable failure mode and increase of load-carrying capacity due to the effect of crack control at the times of initial loading and confinement of retrofitting materials during testing. Specimens RBCJ-SRA3 designed by the retrofitting of AFRP sheets and embedded CFRP reinforcements in reinforced exterior beam-column joint regions were increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 1.86 times and its energy dissipation capacity by 1.65 times in comparison with standard specimen RBCJ for a displacement ductility of 5.
