  • The conventional hard disk has been the dominant database storage system for over 25 years. Recently, hybrid systems which incorporate the advantages of flash memory into the conventional hard disks are considered to be the next dominant storage systems to support databases for desktops and server computers. Their features are satisfying the requirements like enhanced data I/O, energy consumption and reduced boot time, and they are sufficient to hybrid storage systems as major database storages. However, we need to improve traditional index node management schemes based on B-Tree due to the relatively slow characteristics of hard disk operations, as compared to flash memory. In order to achieve this goal, we propose a new index node management scheme called FNC-Tree. FNC-Tree-based index node management enhanced search and update performance by caching data objects in unused free area of flash leaf nodes to reduce slow hard disk I/Os in index access processes.

  • In this paper, a slotted CDMA_ALOHA protocol with hybrid ARQ is proposed for the wireless CDMA communication networks. The proposed protocol combines the characteristics of the slotted ALOHA, CDMA, and the hybrid ARQ, in order to increase the throughput by reducing the number of retransmissions when the channel experiences heavy traffic. The main feature of the proposed protocol is the utilization of the forward error correction capability to correct errors that appear after the CDMA dispreading of the packets. The base station does not need to ask so often for retransmission of erroneous packets. It will request for retransmission only when the FEC capability is exceeded. The performance of the proposed protocol is analyzed by considering the packet collision probability as well as the bit error probability. The numerical results show that the system throughput is closely related to the bit error rate of the wireless link and the FEC coding rate.

  • Th term "hybrid library" refers to the collection of material in print, electronic and other media library hold and give access to. Hybrid library is the type of library that national library is toward in the digital age. Electronic publication is one of the important medias with the traditional media for hybrid library. This paper trys to introduce the acquisition policy on electronic publication by legal deposit, purchase, and other ways at the National Library of Korea with the trends of current electronic pulications domestically and internationally.ationally.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/ frequency hopping multiple access(OFDM/FHMA) hybrid system that in impulsive interference and broadband wireless communication channel then we applied the turbo code scheme to make satisfied in data and voice transmission service. Also, we compared the bit error rate(BER) performance of turbo coded diversity scheme in the OFDM/FHMA hybrid system. As a result of simulation, proposed OFDM/FHMA hybrid system shows the enhancement of 10 times compared to the general OFDM/FHMA system.

  • It is a common practice to use a password in order to restrict access to information, or in a general sense, to assets. Right selection of the password is necessary for protecting the assets more effectively. Password finding/cracking try outs are performed for deciding which level of protection do used or prospective passwords offer, and password cracking algorithms are generated. These algorithms are becoming more intelligent and succeed in finding more number of passwords in less tries and in a shorter duration. In this study, the performances of possible password finding algorithms are measured, and a hybrid algorithm based on the performances of different password cracking algorithms is generated, and it is demonstrated that the performance of the hybrid algorithm is superior to the base algorithms.

  • High-performance computing (HPC) systems provide huge computational resources and large memories. The hybrid memory is a promising memory technology that contains different types of memory devices, which have different characteristics regarding access time, retention time, and capacity. However, the increasing performance and employing hybrid memories induce more complexity as well. In this paper, we propose a roofline-based data migration methodology called HyDM to effectively use hybrid memories targeting at Intel Knight Landing (KNL) processor. HyDM monitors status of applications running on a system and migrates pages of selected applications to the High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). To select appropriate applications on system runtime, we adopt the roofline performance model, a visually intuitive method. HyDM also employs a feedback mechanism to change the target application dynamically. Experimental results show that our HyDM improves over the baseline execution the execution time by up to 44%.

  • Degraded data stability, weaker write ability, and increased leakage power consumption are the primary concerns in scaled static random-access memory (SRAM) circuits. Two new SRAM cells are proposed in this paper for achieving enhanced read data stability and lower leakage power consumption in memory circuits. The bitline access transistors are asymmetrically gate-underlapped in the proposed SRAM cells. The strengths of the asymmetric bitline access transistors are weakened during read operations and enhanced during write operations, as the direction of current flow is reversed. With the proposed hybrid asymmetric SRAM cells, the read data stability is enhanced by up to 71.6% and leakage power consumption is suppressed up to 15.5%, while displaying similar write voltage margin and maintaining identical silicon area as compared to the conventional memory cells in a 15 nm FinFET technology.

  • In oceanic flight routes, HF radio and satellite data links have weather restrictions, long propagation delay and low data throughput. In this paper, we propose oceanic aeronautical communications scheme in the VHF band based on ad-hoc communication. The proposed scheme organizes autonomously a multi-hop network that is divided into multiple local network using aircraft to fly long-distance communication and supports a hybrid type of multiple access, which consists of random access and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) scheme. In addition, several algorithms to apply spatial reuse of transmission to multi-hop long range communication environments have been proposed. The proposed system proves performance improvement on delay time as an effective solution to communicate end-to-end on the oceanic flight routes and strengthens the reliability of oceanic aeronautical communication.

  • We propose the query optimization technique using query classification in hybrid spatial DBMS. In our approach, user queries should to be classified into three types: memory query, disk query, and hybrid query. Specialty, In the hybrid query processing, the query predicate is divided by comparison between materialized view creating conditions and user query conditions. Then, the deductions of the classified queries' cost formula are used for the query optimization. The optimization is mainly done by the selection algorithm of the smallest cost data access path. Our approach improves the performance of hybrid spatial DBMS than traditional disk-based DBMS by $20%{\sim}50%$.

  • Recently, various types of wireless access networks, such as WLAN, WiBro and HSDPA, etc, have been successfully deployed by commercial service providers (i.e., KT, KTF). In this situation, there are many efforts to provide high quality of services to guarantee seamless mobility between heterogeneous networks. The IP layer mobility protocols are efficient mechanisms to provide seamless mobility between IP based heterogeneous networks as well as homogeneous networks. However, to apply IP mobility protocols in real heterogeneous networks (i.e., WiBro and HSDPA), we must consider not only the basic features of techniques of wireless access networks (i.e., Data rate, Coverage, Quality of Service) but also the problem of real environment of service provider (i.e., Expanse cost to change the access network). Due to this reason, it is difficult to satisfy required conditions by using only one IP mobility protocol in real heterogeneous networks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient mobility protocol to solve the complex problems that are occurred in real heterogeneous networks. The proposed protocol, so-called, "Hybrid Mobile IP" tries to provide a synergy effect by integrating Client Mobile IPv4 (CMIPv4) and Proxy Mobile IPv4 (PMIPv4), and using the two mobility protocols selectively according to the situation of real heterogeneous networks.
