  • 좌우 해상도가 차이나는 융합형 3DTV의 화질을 개선하기 위한 기법으로써 두 영상간의 양안시차 정보를 활용하는 조건부 대체 알고리즘이 제안된 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 양안시차 벡터의 정밀도가 조건부 대체 알고리즘에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 양안시차 벡터 추정에 사용되는 좌영상의 해상도에 따른 알고리즘의 성능을 비교한 실험결과를 제시하였다. 높은 해상도의 좌영상을 사용하여 양안시차 벡터의 정밀도가 높아질수록 확장된 우영상의 객관적 화질 및 합성된 3D영상의 자연스러운 입체감이 향상됨을 확인하였다.

  • 양안식 3DTV 비디오의 효율적인 압축을 위해 다양한 기술들이 연구되었으며, 그 중 좌우영상으로 상이한 해상도의 영상을 사용하는 비대칭 양안식 영상은 인간의 시각시스템이 상이한 해상도의 양안식 양상을 높은 쪽 영상의 품질에 가깝게 인지하는 특성을 이용한 대표적인 비트레이트를 절감 방식이다. 이에 다양한 연구에서 좌우해상도 차이에 따른 화질 저하 정도를 측정하려는 시도가 이루어졌으나, 기존 연구에서는 적정 시청거리를 고려하지 않고 좌우 영상의 크기만을 고려하여 실험하였으며 따라서 각 연구별로 상이한 실험 결과가 도출되었다. 본 연구에서는 인간의 시각 시스템을 고려하여 적정 시청거리를 계산하고, 이에 따라 좌우영상 비율 별 화질평가를 수행하였다. 특히 본 연구에서는 좌영상을 IID급 방송콘텐츠로 가정하고, 우영상을 모바일 방송콘텐츠로 가정함으로써, 실험 결과의 방송 서비스 활용가능성을 높였다.

Efficient Multiplexing Scheme of Stereoscopic Video Sequences for Digital Broadcasting Services

  • This letter introduces a stereoscopic video broadcasting system that provides 3D visual service and has full backward compatibility with legacy digital television (DTV) service in the same channel capacity. The proposed stereoscopic video broadcasting system in this letter is composed of both a hybrid codec and a multiplexer with a newly defined stereoscopic-related signaling method. In conclusion, the proposed method can be effectively applied for 3D broadcasting services without major changes in legacy broadcasting platforms.

  • When a terrestrial UHD broadcasting service and a mobile HD broadcasting service are provided using the PLP function provided by ATSC 3.0 and domestic UHD broadcasting standard, a small amount of data may be additionally transmitted to further provide high quality UHD-3D broadcasting service. The left and right images of the stereoscopic image are input, one view image is encoded by the SHVC method, and the other view images are encoded by the SHVC method of the two-view cross-referencing method. However, since the base layers (BL) of the two encoders are mutually common, the two encoders correspond to encoders that generate one BL stream and two enhancement layer (EL) streams. The average encoding efficiency is 16% more efficient compared to the third independent HEVC encoding for the UHD-3D broadcast service. The proposed scheme reduces the fluctuation of PSNR per image frame and increases the image quality of minimum PSNR frame by 0.6dB.

  • 본 논문에서는 고품질의 DTV, HDTV와 인터넷 등의 고속 광대역 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial)-CATV망의 상향채널을 SPW(Signal Processing Worksystem)를 사용하여 모델링하고, HFC-CATV망 상향채널의 문제점인 유입잡음의 영향을 전산모의 실험을 통해 분석하였다. 그리고 상향채널의 열악성을 극복할 수 있는 방법으로 트렐리스 부호화 변조(Trellis-Coded Modulation)와 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)을 결합한 OFDM-TC8PSK 시스템을 제안하고 그 성능을 CATV 상향채널 환경에서 전산모의 실험하고 기존의 QPSK 시스템의 성능과 비교 분석하였다.

Application of Adaptive Loop Filter for NRT-Based Stereoscopic Video Coding (비실시간 기반 스테레오스코픽 비디오 부호화를 위한 적응루프필터 적용기법)

  • A stereoscopic 3D video service is able to provide a 3D video service while keeping backward compatibility with the existing 2D video service. In the terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, a stereoscopic video codec is required to have high coding efficiency in order to provide a 3D video service in the same channel capacity. A hybrid codec consisting of MPEG-2 for base video and H.264/AVC or HEVC for 3D auxiliary video is considered. Furthermore, Non-Real-Time (NRT) delivery of stereoscopic video is also considered as a service scenario for 3DTV services to overcome the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme using adaptive loop filter (ALF) which had been considered in HEVC as a pre-/post-filter for enhancing coding efficiency in NRT-based 3DTV services. In order to apply ALF as a post-filter to the reconstructed additional view coded by H.264/AVC, we devise a method in which ALF is adaptively applied based on a structure determined by using macroblock (MB) coding information such as MB mode type and reference index instead of coding unit (CU) structure on which ALF is applied in the HEVC. Experimental results shows that the proposed stereoscopic video coding scheme applying ALF obtains up to 24.9% gain of bit saving.

H.264/SVC Spatial Scalability Coding based Terrestrial Multi-channel Hybrid HD Broadcasting Service Framework and Performance Analysis on H.264/SVC (H.264/SVC 공간 계위 부호화 기반 지상파 다채널 하이브리드 고화질 방송 서비스 프레임워크 및 H.264/SVC 부호화 성능 평가)

  • One of the existing terrestrial multi-channel DTV service frameworks, called KoreaView, provides four programs, composed of MPEG-2 based one HD video and H.264/AVC based three SD videos within one single 6MHz frequency bandwidth. However the additional 3 SD videos can not provide enough quality due to its reduced spatial resolution and low target bitrates. In this paper, we propose a framework, which is called a terrestrial multi-channel high quality hybrid DTV service, to overcome such a weakness of KoreaView services. In the proposed framework, the three additional SD videos are encoded based on an H.264/SVC Spatial Base layer, which is compliant with H.264/AVC, and are delivered via broadcasting networks. On the other hand, and the corresponding three additional HD videos are encoded based on an H.264/SVC Spatial Enhancement layer, which are transmitted over broadband networks such as Internet, thus allowing the three additional videos for users with better quality of experience. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed framework, various experimental results are provided for real video contents being used for DTV services. First, the experimental results show that, when the SD sequences are encoded by the H.264/SVC Spatial Base layer at a target bitrate of 1.5Mbps, the resulting PSNR values are ranged from 34.5dB to 42.9dB, which is a sufficient level of service quality. Also it is noted that 690kbps-8,200kbps are needed for the HD test sequences when they are encoded in the H.264/SVC Spatial Enhancement layer at similar PSNR values for the same HD sequences encoded by MPEG-2 at a target bitrate of 12 Mbps.
