Performance Evaluation of Plate Membrane Humidifier for PEMFC (고분자전해질연료전지용 판형막가습기 성능 평가)

  • 고분자전해질연료전지(PEMFC)의 성능은 고분자막의 이온전도도에 따라 큰 영향을 받으며 가습조건에 따라 연료의 수화정도에 비례하여 증가하는 경향을 보인다. 현재 고분자막을 가습하는 방법에는 여러 가지가 있는데, PEMFC에 많이 사용되고 있는 Bubbler 형태의 가습장치는 고온이 필요하며 가습 효율이 수동적인 단점을 가지고 있다. 이에 비해서 막을 이용한 가습방법은 스택의 냉각시스템을 이용하여 가습 시, 별도의 에너지가 필요하지 않다. 이에 본 연구에서는 비교적 저온에서도 가습 효율이 증대하고 시스템 간소화의 장점을 가진 막가습기를 제작하여 고분자전해질 연료전지에서 열 및 습도조절에 대한 효율성을 비교 연구하였다. 막가습기에 사용된 가습막의 두께에 따른 가습도 변화 및 유로 구조에 따른 압력강화를 관찰하였으며 막가습기를 판형 모듈 형태로 제작하여 고분자전해질연료전지에 적용하여 성능을 평가하였다.

  • Hyundai motor company has designed a above 50kW-class PEMFC stack for Fuelcell vehicle based on SUV. Hyundai increased the power density of the stack through the optimized flowfield of bipolar plate, manifold structure, and improvement of sealing, etc. Also, Gas to Gas humidifier was adopted in fuelcell system to reduce the system humidification load, it had been proven by short stack test. Components of stack, bilpolar plate, manifold, were analyzed through the computer simulation, so temperature and pressure distribution in the components and system were improved. This stack tested in Bread Board which was organized similar to real vehicle system.

  • Water transport through the microporous membrane was modeled considering capillary condensation as well as capillary flow in porous media as a function of pore diameter and relative humidity at the surface. The present model was adopted by the numerical simulation of non-isothermal, non-homogenous flow in a shell and tube typed gas to gas membrane humidifier for PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell) and the result shows good agreement with experimental data.

  • For the energy's effective utilization, the mixed humidifier has been developed and popularized by combining the cooling dehumidifier with the desiccant humidifier properly. This has contributed in many ways to the industry. Hybrid Desiccant Dehumidifier that would be shown in this study could be indispensible in site due to the reduced equipment, with more than 50% reduction in energy.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the indoor temperature and humidity changes with the operation of a condense drying humidifier. This paper illustrates the principles and composition of a condense drying dehumidifier, which is broadly used in Korean households. Experiments were conducted repeatedly on rainy days in a test chamber. The results showed that the indoor RH was lowered to 40% within 2 hours while the indoor temperature was increased by approximately $4.3^{\circ}C$ with the operation of the humidifier.

  • Recently, fuel cell field is receiving much attention as an environmentally friendly energy in the world. Among the various types of fuel cells, in the case of PEMFC, ions move through the membrane in the middle of the unit cell. Therefore, proper moisture is required inside the PEMFC. In the case of membrane type humidifier, flat membrane or hollow fiber membrane is mainly used. Since various parameters can change the performance, the performance investigation has to be carried out with parameters. In this study, water transport of hollow fiber membrane was investigated in terms of principle operating conditions such as temperature and flow rate.
