Joint moments and muscle forces during walking with sided load as one of activities of daily living (편향하중 조건 보행시 인체의 적응 작용에 대한 분석)

  • The trunk is inclined to the loaded side when carrying an object as one of activities of daily living. As the reaction to this behavior the human body may be inclined to his/her trunk to unloaded side. The present study investigated the biomechanical effects of weight variation for sided load carriage during walking upon joint moments and muscle torques, through the tracker agent and joint driving dynamic analysis. To perform the experiment one male was selected as subject for the study. Gait analysis was performed by using a 3D motion analysis system. Thirty nine 14mm reflective markers, according to the plug-in marker set, were attached to the subject. We used BRG.LifeMOD(Biomechanics Research Group, Inc., USA), for skeletal modeling and inverse and joint driving dynamic simulation during one gait cycle. In walking with a sided load carriage, the subject modeled held the carriage with the right hand, which weighed 0, 5, 10, 15kg, 20kg respectively. The result of this simulation showed that knee and hip in the coronal plane were inclined to the loaded side and loaded side had larger moments as the sided load carriage was increased. On the other hand thoracic and lumbar in the coronal plane had larger negative values as the sided loaded carriage was increased. The thoracic and lumbar in the transverse plane also had larger values as the sided load was increased. And the several muscles of loaded side were increased as increasing sided load. It could be concluded that human body is adopted to side loaded circumstances by showing more biologic force. These results could be very useful in analysis for delivery motion of daily life.

Analysis of Lead and Bismuth Absorption Rate by Monte Carlo Simulation (몬테카를로 시뮬레이션에 의한 납과 비스무트 흡수율 분석)

  • In the medical field, lead aprons are used to protect the human body from radiation. However, lead is a heavy metal that is harmful to the human body and the environment, so various shield are being developed. In this study, bismuth, which has a similar atomic number to lead, was set as a new material and the absorption rate according to thickness in the same energy region was compared and evaluated through Monte Carlo simulation. The same tendency was confirmed when the thickness of the lead shield was 0.25 mm, the thickness of the bismuth was 0.3 mm, when the lead was 0.50 mm, the bismuth was 0.60 mm, and when the lead was 0.75 mm, the bismuth was 0.90 mm. Therefore, it is reasonable to replace lead with bismuth in the shield material.

  • Visual effects are important cues for providing occupant s with virtual reality in a vehicle simulator which imitates real driving. The viewpoint of an occupant is sensitively dependent upon the occupant´s posture, therefore, the total body motion must be considered in a graphic simulator. A real time simulation is required for the dynamic analysis of complex human body motion. This study attempts to apply a neural network to the motion analysis in various driving situations. A full car of medium-sized vehicles was selected and modeled, and then analyzed using ADAMS in such driving conditions as bump-pass and acceleration. A multibody system analysis software, MADYMO, was used in the motion analysis of an adult male dummy in the seated position.   • A numerical analysis is carried out in order to obtain aerodynamic data of the ski jump. The body modelling of Korean people is used in the numerical simulation and the result is validated by comparing it with the wind tunnel experiment. A flying posture, which provides the maximum lift-to-drag ratio, is found by analyzing the aerodynamic coefficients of various flight conditions. The result of the present study can be applied to fixing the postures of Korean ski players and is expected to advance the national sports science.

  • In this paper, a headset multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) antenna for on-body application is proposed and the antenna performance with body effect and the impact on human body are investigated. The proposed MIMO antenna is composed of two planar inverted-F antennas(PIFA) above ground plane and an isolator located between the two antennas enhance the isolation characteristic. Simulation was carried to analyze the effect of human body on antenna performance when a human body is located in the near field of the antenna. According to the measurement result, the diversity performance of the proposed antenna can be considered good since ECC(Envelope Correlation Coefficient), which commonly indicates the performance of a MIMO antenna, remains below 0.1 over the ISM band. The measured SAR values for antennas 1 and 2 are 0.575 W/kg and 0.571 W/kg, respectively when 250 mW input power in engaged. These values satisfy the FCC guideline which states that the 1-g average SAR should be lower than 1.6 W/kg.

  • Usual human gait can be modeled as continual impact phenomenon that happens due to the topological change of the kinematic structure of the two feet. The human being adapts his own control algorithm to minimize the ill effect due to the collision with the environment. In order to operate a Humanoid robot like the human being, it is necessary to understand the physics of the impact and to derive an analytical model of the impact. In this paper, specially, we focus on impact analysis of the kicking motion in playing soccer. At the instant of impact, the external impulse exerted on the ball by the foot is an important property. Initially, we introduce the complete external impulse model of the lower-extremity of the human body and analyze the external impulses for several kicking postures of the lower-extremity. Secondly, a trajectory-planning algorithm of a ball, in which the initial velocity and the launch angle of the ball are calculated for a desired trajectory of the ball, will be introduced. The aerodynamic effect such as drag force and lift force is also considered. We carry out numerical simulation and experimentation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed analytical methodology.

Human Postural Response to Linear Perturbation (선형외란에 대응하는 인체의 자세응답 해석)

  • Human postural responses appeared to have stereotyped modality, such as ankle mode, knee mode and hip mode in response to various perturbations. We examined whether human postural control gain of full-state feedback could be decoupled along with the eigenvector. To verify the model, postural responses subjected to fast backward perturbation were used. Upright posture was modeled as 3-segment inverted pendulum incorporated with feedback control, and joint torques were calculated using inverse dynamics. Postural modalities such as ankle, knee and hip mode were obtained from eigenvectors of biomechanical model. As oppose to the full-state feedback control, independent eigenvector control assumes that modal control input is determined by the linear combination of corresponding modality. We used optimization method to obtain and compare the feedback gains for both independent eigenvector control and full-state feedback control. As a result, we found that simulation result of eigenvector feedback was not competitive in comparison with that of full-state feedback control. This implies that the CNS would make use of full-state body information to generate compensative joint torques.

Egocentric Vision for Human Activity Recognition Using Deep Learning

  • The topic of this paper is the recognition of human activities using egocentric vision, particularly captured by body-worn cameras, which could be helpful for video surveillance, automatic search and video indexing. This being the case, it could also be helpful in assistance to elderly and frail persons for revolutionizing and improving their lives. The process throws up the task of human activities recognition remaining problematic, because of the important variations, where it is realized through the use of an external device, similar to a robot, as a personal assistant. The inferred information is used both online to assist the person, and offline to support the personal assistant. With our proposed method being robust against the various factors of variability problem in action executions, the major purpose of this paper is to perform an efficient and simple recognition method from egocentric camera data only using convolutional neural network and deep learning. In terms of accuracy improvement, simulation results outperform the current state of the art by a significant margin of 61% when using egocentric camera data only, more than 44% when using egocentric camera and several stationary cameras data and more than 12% when using both inertial measurement unit (IMU) and egocentric camera data.

  • The object of this research is to develop an Interactive Computerized Graphic Program for graphic output of velocity, acceleration and motion range of body-task reference point (e.g., C.O.G., joint location, etc.). Human motions can be reproduced by scanning (rate = 60Hz) the vidicon image, and the results are stored in an Apple II P.C. memory. The results of this study can be extended to simulation and reproduction of human motions for optimal task design.

  • The out-of-positioned small female drivers are most likely to be injured during airbag deployment due to their stature and proximity to the steering wheel and airbag module. In order to investigate the injury mechanisms, some experimental studies with Hybrid III 5% female dummy and with female cadavers could be found from the open literatures. However, the given information from those experimental studies is quite limited to the standard conditions and might not be enough to estimate the airbag inflation aggressiveness regarding on the occupant responses and injury. In this study, a finite element analysis has been performed in order to investigate the airbag-induced injuries. A finite element 5% female human model in anatomical details has been developed. The validation results of the model are also introduced in this paper.
