  • A Many studies have been made on the prediction of human voluntary movement intention in real-time based on invasive or non-invasive methods to help severely motor-disabled persons by offering some abilities of motor controls and communications. In the present study, we have developed an internet game driven by and/or linked to a brain-computer interface (BCI) system. Activities of two single neuronal units recorded from either hippocampus or prefrontal cortex of SD rats were used in real time to control two-dimensional movements of a robot, or a game object.

  • A new monitoring system is proposed to give direct visual information of the remote site when working with a tele-operation system. In order to have a similar behavior of a human when he is inspecting an object, multiple cameras that have different view point are attached around the robot hand and are switched on and elf according to the operator´s motion such as joystick manipulation or operator´s head movement. The performance of the system is estimated by performing comparison experiments among single camera (SC) vision system, head mount display (HMD)system and proposed multiple camera (MC) vision system by applying a task to several examines. The reality, depth feeling and controllability are estimated for the examines ...

  • Visual effects are important cues for providing occupant s with virtual reality in a vehicle simulator which imitates real driving. The viewpoint of an occupant is sensitively dependent upon the occupant´s posture, therefore, the total body motion must be considered in a graphic simulator. A real time simulation is required for the dynamic analysis of complex human body motion. This study attempts to apply a neural network to the motion analysis in various driving situations. A full car of medium-sized vehicles was selected and modeled, and then analyzed using ADAMS in such driving conditions as bump-pass and acceleration. A multibody system analysis software, MADYMO, was used in the motion analysis of an adult male dummy in the seated position. Position data of the head were collected as inputs to the viewpoint movement. Based on these data, a back- propagation neural network was ...

  • This paper presents the development of video-based 3-dimensional tracking system. Measurement of human motion is important in the application of ergonomics. The system uses advanced direct video measurement technology. Passive retro-reflecting markers are attached to a subject and movements of markers are observed by two CCD cameras. Infrared light emitted near the CCD cameras is reflected by the markers and is detected by the cameras. The image ae captured by Samsung MVBO2 board and the center of markers is calculated by DSP program. The position of markers are transferred from MVB02 board to the computer through AT bus. The computer then tracks the position of each marker and saves the data. This system has dynamic accuracy with 1% error and the sampling rate to 6-10 Hz, and can analyse the trajectory and speed of the marker. The results of this study can be used for operators motion analysis, task analysis, and hand movement characteristic analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the changes of the early twentieth century fashion in pursuit of mechanical beauty. As for the research methodology, literature survey has been undertaken. The results of this study are as following. In early twentieth century, fashion concept on the expression of mechanical beauty was considered as abstractness, atypicality, and high-tech. The abstractness of fashion was expressed by geometrical purity, box silhouette, moderate color, and cheap materials in association with mechanical reasonability and efficiency. The atypicality of fashion was connected progressive taste motivated by mechanical dynamic effect. This tendency of dress was constructed technically in response with the movement of body and totally transgressed conventional notions of clothing. The high-tech of fashion was presented by geometrical forms and metal materials in relation with the future-oriented utopia and the harmony between human and machine.

  • The analysis of human movement requires the knowledge of the Hill type muscle parameters, the muscle-tendon and moment arm length change as a function of joint angles. However, values of a subject's muscle parameters are very difficult to identify. It turns out from a sensitivity analysis that the tendon slack length and maximum muscle force are the two critical parameters among the Hill-type muscle model. Therefore, it could be claimed that the variation of the tendon slack length and maximum muscle force from the Delp's reference data will change the muscle characteristics of a subject remarkably. A numeric optimization method to search these tendon parameters specific to a subject is proposed, and the accuracy of the developed algorithm is evaluated through a numerical simulation.

  • This paper suggests user's interface with computer by means of detecting gaze under HMD, head mounted display, environment. System is derived as follows; firstly, calibrate a camera in HMD, which determines geometrical relationship between monitor and captured image. Second, detect the center of pupil using algorithm of the center of mass and represent a gazing position on the computer screen. If user blinks or stares at a certain position for a while, message is sent to computer. Experimental results show the center of mass is robust against glint effects, and detecting error was 7.1%. and 4.85% in vertical and horizontal direction, respectively. To adjust detailed movement of a mouse takes 0.8 sec more. The 98% of blinking is detected successfully and 94% of clicking detection is resulted.

  • C. elegans often used to study of function of gene, but it is difficult for human observation to distinguish the mutants of C. elegans. To solve this problem, the system, which can be classified automatically using the computer vision, is studying now. In the previous works , they described the auto-tracking system and the egg-laying timing modeling, which are used to automated-classily system. In this paper, we use three kinds of features, which are related to movement , size and posture of the worm, and each feature is described mathematically and normalized. In experimental result, we validated the features for the hierarchical clustering, And we used the Calinski and Harabasz's method to find the appropriate cluster number.

  • Recently, much attention is paid on the office design be-cause the real world of work has undergone substantial changes, in both spatial and temporal aspects, due to the in-troduction of data processing technologies and new types of production. Today's renewed objectives of office are to define new physical space for work, to deal with economic and organizational changes. In the period of information, the purpose of an office is to improve the productivity for employers employees the comfort and vitality. Today's intellecture resources are necessary for the development in the modern business. The Hypid office, as an alternative in order to correspond the rapid changes, is proposed to give the space for satisfy-ing the basic desires of a human being-eating, resting and working. Accompanying with flexibility and comfortability, this office should include the space for personal purpose and the space for social purpose. Applying the concept of comfort like at home leads to re-lease a worker's stress from the society of information. The future office which is to enhance the quality of culture by in-tegrating indivisual, domestic and social life should commu-nicate efficiency, movement, energy, transformation.

  • This paper describes humanoid eye drive system. The eye drive system has been developed by using more than two motors for operating 2 degree-of-freedom. It needs to accomplish purpose for operating the robot eye like movement of the human eye. However it makes problems that it increases energy consumption and requires relatively large space of operating system. Thus it needs technology to minimize and have high efficiency. This paper introduces the adequacy of perviously eye drive system. And it shows research value of the spherical motor system.
