  • Human body communication (HBC) is being recognized as a new communication technology for mobile and wearable devices in a body area network (BAN). This paper presents co-channel interference experienced by HBC supporting the physical layer in the IEEE 802.15.6 BAN standard. To analyze the co-channel interference, a co-channel interference model is introduced, and space-domain and time-domain parameters representing an interference environment are generated using the co-channel interference model. A new signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) parameter depending on the peak amplitudes of the data signals causing co-channel interference is defined; co-channel interference can be easily analyzed and modelled using the newly defined SIR. The BER degradation model derived using the co-channel interference model and SIR in this paper can be effectively used to estimate the performance.

  • RNA interference (RNAi), a process of sequence-specific gene suppression, has been known as a natural gene regulatory mechanism in a wide range of lower organisms. Recently, we have reported that a transfection of human U6 promoter (hU6) driven hairpin small-interference RNA (siRNA) plasmid specifically knocks down the target gene by post-transcriptional gene silencing in mammalian cells. Here we report that transfection of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products, containing human U6 promoter with hairpin siRNA, knocks down the target gene expression in human teratocarcinoma NT-2/D1 cells. Moreover, we showed 3' end termination sequence, 5 Ts, is not critical elements for knocking down in PCR-based siRNA system. Therefore, the PCR-based siRNA system is a promising tool not only for the screening but also to temporally regulate gene expression in the human progenitor cells.

  • We discuss main techniques to improve legibility of electroluminescent displays. Emphasis is placed on use of destructive optical interference to cancel ambient light reflected from the back electrode of the device. Basic optical principles and material composition of the optical interference contrast-enhancing stack (CES) are presented. We also describe the improved human factors of electroluminescent devices assisted with a CES. Achromatic contrast is the most important contributor to display's legibility. In some conditions color contrast may also be important. Contributing to both luminance and color contrast enhancement, the contrast-enhancing stack may play an important role in various display applications.

  • When measuring impedance of electronic component and so on, even the small size can reject the interference to shielding object. But, the interference through human body is grown when measuring bioimpedance without establishing shield specially. Consequently, when measuring bioimpedance in this paper, it proposed impedance measurement method to take advantage of spread spectrum technology, so that can reject the interference without establishing shield specially. Spread spectrum impedance measurement method to propose in this paper can reject the interference signal that occurring from medical instruments in the human body, the interference signal that is flowed in from surrounding environment when measuring impedance. It improved SJR(signal to jamming ratio) about 22dB than conventional method that actually realize and experiment spread spectrum impedance measurement method.

  • Moire topography, a simple technique for three-dimensional quantitation, was used to provide interference fringe photographs of the human back with sufficient accuracy to be used for detecting patient with asymmetry due to scoliosis, the disease of cervix and lumbar, muscle dysfunction. Contour lines are a suitable and widely accepted method of describing a three-dimensional surface. In the moire technique, contour lines of an object are produced as interference fringes while the object is illuminated by a spotlight through a special grating. The fringe pattern is produced by the interference of the grating and its shadow on the object. A photograph of a moire pattern on the human back will permit an assessment of the overall body shape and the symmetry of the back. This study uses shadow moire topography. Moire topography provides a non-invasive technique for quantifying the shape of the human body. In the use of moire topography for the Oriental Medicine Diagnosis, the strength of moire lies in the ablility to detect change due to deformity of human body.

  • Cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) is a member of serine/threonine protein kinases, which initiates the principal transitions of the eukaryotic cell cycle and is a promising target for cancer therapy. The present study was designed to inhibit cdk2 gene expression to induce cell cycle arrest and cell proliferation suppression. Here, we constructed a series of RNA interference (RNAi) plasmids which can successfully express small interference RNA (siRNA) in the transfected human cells. The results showed that the RNAi plasmids containing the coding sequences for siRNAs down-regulated the cdk2 gene expression in human cancer cells at the mRNA and the protein levels. Furthermore, we found that the cell cycle was arrested at G0G1 phases and the cell proliferation was inhibited by different siRNAs. These results demonstrate that suppression of CDK2 activity by RNAi may be an effective strategy for gene therapy in human cancers.

  • This paper presents "The 3-User NOR switching channel based on interference decoding with receiver cooperation" in succession to "Jeju Jong Nang channel code I, II". The Jeju Jong Nang code is considered as one of the earliest human binary coded communication (HBCC) in the world with a definite "1" or "0" binary symbolic analysis of switching circuits. In this paper, we introduce a practical example of interference decoding with receiver cooperation based on the three user Jong Nang NOR switching channel. The proposed system models are the three user Jong Nang (TUJN) NOR logic switching on-off, three-user injective deterministic NOR switching channel and Gaussian interference channel (GIC) with receiver cooperation. Therefore, this model is well matched to Shannon binary symmetric and erasure channel capacity. We show the applications of three-user Gaussian interference decoding to obtain deterministic channels which means each receiver cooperation helps to adjacent others in order to increase degree of freedom. Thus, the optimal sum rate of interference mitigation through adjacent receiver cooperation achieves 7 bits.

  • The interference of electromagnetic waves in factory is increasing according with development of industrial society and many use of electrical machinery. Electromagnetic wave is defined as the electrical and magnetic field formed by electrical and electronic equipment used in daily lives, which indiscriminatingly affects the human health and operation of machinery. The electromagnetic spectrum ranges from the shorter wavelengths(including gamma and x-rays) to the longer wavelengths(including microwaves and broadcast radio waves). Radiation that is not absorbed or scattered in the atmosphere can reach and affect on the operation of machine. In this study, electromagnetic wave that is interfered to the machine and human is detected in factory, and decrease method of electromagnetic wave interference is studied.

  • If there is no choice but to be urbanized, we should examine how human interference has had influences on the area to keep the river environment safe and stable. This study is aimed at finding improvement by examining the effect of human interference in Gapcheon river in Daejeon, which is developing fast. Distinctive features of human interference in Gapcheon river are followings. First, middle and upper reaches of Gapcheon river are being maintained and restored focusing on flood control but are scheduled to develop city and channel. Second, the rear area of middle and lower reaches of Gapcheon river is already developed into an urban district and solidified into artificial stream for leisure activities installing the artificial structure for fun. Third, lower reaches of Gapcheon river are in an unstable condition because of straightening waterway and developing rear area of river. Up to now, geographical features and bio-diversity of Gapcheon river has been ruined by the artificial management of river centered for technical engineering. From now on, followings should be considered for management of urban river. First, it is focused on maintaining eco system by itself than usage for human. Second, natural features of rear area of river should be taken into consideration and should be preserved before developing urban city and hills, back marsh, channel deposit and swamp to directly have an influence on river.

  • When we measure electrical impedance of a small object, such as an electronic component, external interference or jamming signal can be rejected by shielding the object. However, when we measure impedance of a large object, such as a human body, shielding is not easy and severe error due to the external interference could be introduced. In this paper, spread spectrum technique applicable to bioimpedance measurements for rejecting external interference without shielding is introduced. The improvement in signal-to-jamming ratio by the spread spectrum technique was experimentally confirmed.
