Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy is one of the most distressing complications of diabetes, Drugs such as narcotic analgesics, tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants and phenothiazines have been used to treat diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy, but these drugs are not very effective for the many patients and the side effects may become intolerable. In oriental medicine, usually the main etiology of diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy is insufficiency of Blood due to the state of dry-heat in the human body. Therefore, we use Bogan-tang to treat numbness of Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy. Bogan-tang was administrated twice a day for 15 days, and VAS Scale was performed every day to evaluate numbness and insufficiency of blood. In both cases, numbness and insufficiency of blood were improved without any side effects. This study suggests that Bogan-tang is an effective drug in the treatment of Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy.

In order to find out the effects of vinyl house body, the author compared the physical and laboratory examinations between 96 cases of vinyl house farmers and 96 cases of land farmers who lived in 3 Gun's in Kyoungnam Province from July, 1st through September, 30, 1993. The examination included blood pressure, CBC, urinalysis, and blood chemistry. Systolic blood pressure and alkaline phosphates levels were lower in vinyl house farmers than in land farmers. But white blood cell counts were higher in vinyl house farmers and the other results were not different between two groups. It suggests that the environment of vinyl house - small, poorly ventilating, hot and humid environment - affected human body, then those facts should be considered during construction of vinyl houses.

The appropriate handling of motion artifacts is essential for clinical diagnosis in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In many cases, motion is an inherent part of MR images because it is difficult to control during MR imaging. As the motion in the human body occur in a deformable manner, they are difficult to deal with. This paper proposes a novel detection method for periodically moving regions to produce MR images with less motion artifacts. When the data is acquired by the radial trajectory, the proposed method can extract the deformable region easily using the difference in the modulated sinograms, which have different periodic phase terms. The simulation results applied to the various cases confirmed the good performance of the proposed method.

This article reviewed the epidemic characteristics of AIDS during the period of 1985-1993 and its socio economic implications in Korea. The author discussed the principles of AIDS prevention measures through NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) programs and also introduced WHO recommended approaches of preventing AIDS which was declared 'AIDS Days '93'. December 1. 1993. The followings are the summary of articles. 1. The total number of HIV (+) were 313 cases. Male was 289, female was 34 by December 3D, 1993. 2. The number of AIDS patients were 16 cases, 14 out of 16 died and two are alive. 3. A numerical study on the Stefan problem occurred in cryosurgery is performed. Crank-Nicholson type finite difference algorithm based on the enthaly method is adapted to solve the phase change problem in this study. As it is a moving boundary problem, special emphasis is put on the estimation of the freezing front location. Two cases selected here are freezings of human tissue by disk type cryoprobe and by hemispherical one. In both cases, the heat flows are considered to be one dimensional. The calculated results using enthalpy method are compared with those using the program TRUMP and with Neumann's solution. These results agree guite well with each other. While it is pretty difficult to get accurate freezing front location by TRUMP due to the so- called "phase change knee" occured during the phase change, the algorithm based on the enthalpy method is proved to be very powerful to cope with this kind of problem.f problem.

The study was performed to investigae the thickness of lamina dura of the human teeth in periodontal disease, which obtained from the intraoral roentgenograms of the 122 cases taken by bisecting technic. All films were divided into the different ages, the different sexes, and the different location of the different teeth. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Compared with the normal teeth, the thickness of lamina dura in periodontal disease is in creased in all of different ages, sexes and teeth. (equation omitted) 2. Generally, the alveolar crest portion is the thickest among the root surfaces, and midroot, apex followed, and the average thinckness of the posterior teeth is thicker than that of anterior teeth. The mean value of the whole maxillary teeth is almost same as that of mandibular teeth. On the whole cases, the differences of male and female is about 0.01㎜, which is not a significant differences.

This study was designed to analyze the cyber counseling cases on the university students' date in order to identify the problems they encounter in dating and seek for a direction for education and consulting program to help them solve the problems. A total of 253 cases in cyber counseling about date were analyzed. The findings demonstrated that the university students were short of interpersonal relationship still needed for expressing Intimacy and maintaining the relationship, and poorly coping with the negative emotions such as conflict, anxiety, and boredom. Thus, a variety of human relations training programs needs to be established in the universities to help the students stay in good terms with the counterpart. Plus, cyber counseling and e-mail counseling needs to be activated so as to allow the university students to easily access when they come to face a problem in dating.

Many researchers had considered biological systems as linear systems. In many cases of biological systems, the phenomena that show the regular and periodic dynamics are considered the normal state. However, some clinical experiments reported, in some cases, the periodic signals represented the abnormal state. We assume that signals from human body system are generated from deterministic, intrinsic mechanisms and can be represented a simple equation that show nonlinear dynamics dependent on control parameters. The objective of our study is to model a nonlinear dynamics correctly from the nonlinear time series using the genetic programming method; to find a simple equation of nonlinear dynamics using collected time series and its nonlinear characteristics. We applied genetic programming to model RR interval of ECG that shows chaotic phenomena. We used 4 statistic measures and 2 fractal measures to estimate fitness of each chromosome, and could obtain good solutions of which chaotic features are similar.

The task for chromosome analysis and diagnosis by experienced cytogenetists are being concerned as repetitive, time consuming job and expensive. For that reason, intelligent agent based on chromosome knowledge base has been established to be able to analyze chromosomes and obtain necessary advises from the knowledge base instead of human experts. That is to say, knowledge base by IF THEN production rule was implemented to a knowledge domain with normal and abnormal chromosomes, and then the inference results by knowledge base could enter the inference data into the database. Experimental data were composed of normal chromosomes of 2,736 patients 'cases and abnormal chromosomes of 259 patients' cases that have been obtained from GTG-banding metaphase peripheral blood and amniotic fluid samples. The completed intelligent agent for chromosome knowledge base provides variously morphological information by analysis of normal or abnormal chromosomes and it also has the advantage of being able to consult with user on chromosome analysis and diagnosis.
