The purpose of this study was to compare the performance mode of housework related to daily meals. The data for 214 Korean couples living in Seoul and 136 Japanese Couples in Tokyo were collected using structured questionnaires and time diaries. The performance mode of housework were analyzed according to the employment status of wives. The results were as follows; Generally Koreans and Japanese wives had similar patterns in the time use of meals preparation and dish washing. In both nations Husbands seldom participated meals preparation, wives did most part of the work. But Japanese husbands of full-time employed wives spent more time on meals preparation than their Korean counterparts did. Korean wives received more help from other family members and paid labor, on the contrary Japanese wives purchased more ready-made goods for food preparation.
The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in perceived time pressure between employed and non-employed married women in Korea. The sample of married couple from the Korean Time Use Survey 2009 (n = 6,948 couple diaries) was used to examined the difference in the level of perceived time pressure over the life cycle of two group. This study also investigated the married women's time use, husband's time use as well as hour of domestic outsourcing and whether such factors are associated with lowering perceived time pressure of married women. Results showed employed wives felt almost 3 times more time pressed than non-employed wives, and the gap mostly remained over different life cycles. Total work hours were associated with increasing the time pressure of both groups of women, while regenerating time was associated with ameliorating time pressure. The result suggests that the time pressure gap between employed and non-employed wives can be partly due to the relative length of total labor hours and regenerating time among the two groups. Ordered logit analysis revealed that husband's paid work hours were not associated with wive's feeling rushed, but husband' unpaid work hours were positively linked with time pressure of their wives. Results indicated if employed or non-employed wives are feeling very busy, there is a high chance that husband might give them some help. We found employed wives spend more hours on housework outsourcing, and purchasing goods for housework was not associated with lowering the feeling of pressure of employed wives. There were both similarity and difference in factors associated with women's feeling pressed among employed and non-employed wives. It implies that social process and it's strategies to alleviate the time pressure can be different by women's employment status.
This study focused on time use and the influencing factors of employed wives. Its aims are specified as follows.:1) to figure out the tendency of time use spent on a holiday and weekday by employed wives ; (2) to find out factors influencing the amount of time in each domain spent on each day. The samples were composed for 396 employed wives living in Seoul and Kwangju city who had the eldest child less than 18years old. were sampled based on their work kind, work status, and residential quarter. The results are as follows; 1) Employed wives spend 423 minutes a weekday, and 513 minutes a holiday on the sleep and 522 minutes(weekday ), 618 minutes (holiday) on the total Physiological time 599 minutes (weekday), 72 minutes(holiday) were devoted to the employed time. compared to 214 minutes. 395 minutes for the housework Finally 103 minutes and 349 minutes were assigned to leisure time. Compared with the research results in Japan and the United States, this shows large difference. Korean wives; work time is excessively too long while the time for leisure and psysiological time is too short, which means the life style of Korean wives ti too simple and monotonous. 2) Social demographic variables(such as work status, education, income, wive's relative income rate, family type. family number, the younger child's age, and etc. )and variables connected with employment (such as employed work time and employment motivation) significantly differentiate the time use. A wive with higher education, employment status, and income level, spends more time for the psysiological , leisure time, and manegerial housework time, while spending less time for work and physical housework.
This study attemps to identify the factors related to dealing withy work-family conflict of employed women, and to investigate the needs and the methods of support for household labor. Especially, the results of this study aims to be reflected in women's policy from a political point of view. For these purposes, 477 married women those being employed (more than 30 hours per week) and having nuclear family were selected. Statistics were frequencies, means, percentile, and two-way ANOVA. The results were as follows. First, employed mother's housework time is 5 hours 16 minutes on a weekday and 9 hours 32 minutes on Sunday with the exception of market work time. And 84.5% of total housework was performed by housewife. Thus they take chage of work burden(market work and housework), and make a difficulties of cooking and family care. Seconds, the highest needs of support was the change of thought on division of labor, responsibility on housework, and status of women. The next were the needs of the social organization(flex-time, a special holiday for woman workers, home-based work) and the public institution(day-care center, school feeding). Thirds, contributing factors to the needs of support were housewife's age and occupation. So, this two factors were crossed in order to analyze family type by factors.
The major purpose of this research was to investigate the causal relationships among working wives' work-family conflict, socialization of housework, and home management satisfaction. the double ABCX model of family stress and adaptation provided the theoretical framework for this study. the data were recruited from working wives who had more than one pre-school child. The respondents were asked to complete the self-administered questionnaires, and the responses of 536 working wives were used for the final analysis. basically Cronbach's α to the reliability of major variables, frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation, pearson's correlation coefficients, and LISREL 7 program were performed to test the research model. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. The frequency of work-family conflict was affected by the flexibility of work time and wives' income. 2. The severity of wok-family conflict was directly influenced by the frequency of the conflict, the flexibility of work-time, and wives' education level. 3. The variables influencing the degree of socialization of housework were found to be the frequency and the severity of work-family conflict, wives' education, and the degree of husband's participation in housework. 4. The higher degree of home management satisfaction was associated with the higher level of family member's health status, the greater degree of the flexibility of work-time, and the greater degree of husband's participation in household labor.
This study analyzed the time use of dual income paid workers. The data was selected from the '2009 Korean Time Use Survey' by the Korean National Statistical Office. There were 2799 respondents who were paid workers with dual income. There were big differences in time use between men and women. The result showed that men's time allocation focused on 'labor and leisure' and women's time allocation focused on ‘labor and housework'. This means the women among dual income paid workers faced difficulties in dual burden of work-family balance. Regression analysis on time use dividing men and women showed that age, education, income, working type and the presence of preschool children had significant effects on time allocation. We found the income effects on time use which reduced paid working time and increased housework and leisure time. Significantly, younger men who have preschool children spend more time in housework. We could find the possibility of a change in men's time allocation.

This study is daily life research which aims to explore people's daily lives using a time dairy survey. The purpose of this study is to develop a typology of early, elderly over 55-year-olds using the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The results suggest that each man and woman can be classified according to three dimensions which are work time, housework time, and leisure time. Four groups of men are described: the work and leisure balanced type, the work-oriented type, the leisure-oriented type, and the leisure with housework type. Four groups of women are illustrated: the work-oriented type, the leisure-oriented type, the housework-oriented type, and the passive type. The eight groups are characterized by age, education, income, spouse, gender role, lack of time, and satisfaction of time use.

The actual time fathers spend in childcare has not increased much in spite of recent attention paid to nurturing their children and changes in the fathers' role. In this study, parenting time is measured by time spent in childcare, shared housework, and shared leisure. In this way, this study seeks to analyze trends in fathers' time spent with children and the factors that influence fathers' participation in parenting. The data source for this study was the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The main results of this research are as follows: First, when measuring childcare time as a primary activity, fathers' time spent in parenting averaged 17 minutes on weekdays and 32 minutes on Sundays. This extended to 44 minutes on weekdays and 166 minutes on Sundays when including the secondary childcare time and the shared time with their children while doing housework or leisure. Second, fathers' probability of participating in childcare was higher for fathers who had shorter working hours, younger children, higher spouse average monthly income, and a college or higher education level. The variable that influenced fathers' participation in shared housework on weekdays was working hours. On Sundays, the variables were working hours, age of the youngest child, and the type of occupation. Fathers' participation in shared leisure was influenced by father's working hours, number of children, age of the youngest child, and type of occupation on weekdays. On Sundays, it was influenced by working hours and the age of the youngest child.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between household productivity and market productivity of the married men in their early adulthood. Proxy variables of the household productivity were housework time, family cohesion·adaptability and family economic resource. Also proxy variables of the market productivity were job performance, job satisfaction and wage. The main result were as follows: First, men's housework time is insignificantly related to men's job performance, job satisfaction, and wage. But men's housework time is reduced as men's wage. Second, family cohesion·adaptability is significantly and positively related to the married men's job performance. The married men's job performance is significantly and positively related to the family cohesion·adaptability.
The purpose of this study was to investigated the imfluences of family life cycle stages and perception of housework's value on perceived time pressure and role conflict in housewife-teachers. The subjects of this study were 329 married women teachers that teach in junior or senior high schools in Taegu. A questionaire was used as the survey method and for the method of data analysis, factor analysis, MANOVA, and Scheff test as a post-hoc analysis. The major findings were as follows: 1) There were significant interaction effects of family life cycle stages and perception of housework's value on perceived time pressure and role conflict. 2) The main effect for family life cycle stages was significant. 3) Followup univariate F-tests revealed significant mean differences for marital, parental and homemaker's role conflict.
