Development of Forward Slip Model in Hot Strip Mill (강판의 열간압연 선진율 예측모델의 개발)

  • A prediction model on forward slip has been developed for presetting rolling speed of each finish mill stand in the continuous hot strip roduction. Those factors such as neutral point, friction coefficient, volume fractions undergoing width spread, shape of deformation zone at each side of entry and delivery of the rolls were taken into account. To reduce the speed unbalance between adjacent stands a refining method of adjusting friction coefficient has also been developed. On-line application of the model showed a good agreement in rolling speeds between the predictions and the actual measurements, and gave an outstanding improvement in the travelling stability of strip passing through the finishing mill train.

  • In general, final width of hot strip should be accomplished in this stage because width reduction of strip hardly appears during typical finishing mill. However, it is difficult to control the width of strip in the roughing mill process as the horizontal rolling of strip is subsequently performed after the vertical rolling. It is therefore important to obtain the deformation rolling direction on strip width to minimize the width spread of strip during horizontal rolling after vertical rolling. Generally there is Sizing press type and Edger-roll type. The width reduction process in sizing press has small amount of width spread compared with the edger. However, productivity by the sizing press process is much lower than those of the edger. In this study, sizing press and Edger-roll process parameters in a sheet rolling mill were set at specified values and the effect of the change in these parameters on product quality and process performance were evaluated.

  • The main purpose of Set-up control of hot strip mill plant is to obtain the most regular thickness. Then the learning or adaptive computer control in hot strip rolling mill has been developed. But it is very difficult to keep the inter-stands load distribution ratio uniform; so that the deviation of strip flatness is not avoidable. This leads to the degradation of quality of the products. In this report, an improved method base on the steepest descent method including the computation of optimum step size. This method is applied to the off-line simulation. In consequence, the better balances of inter-stands load distribution is achieved in addition to improvements of output thickness of hot strip mill in POSCO.

  • Recently, hot rolling oil lubrication technology is required to face with the new environments such as the rapid introduction of high wear resistent high speed steel roll the development of continuous hot rolling technology. In the hot strip mill, according to rolling and quality required conditions are constrict, Roll material of hot rolling finishing stand is changing Hi-Cr Roll to High Speed Steel [HSS] Roll. The problem of HSS Roll of roll force and strip scale defects are increasing in hot strip mill, So we have tested HSS Roll in hot rolling simulator as rolling condition, rolling speed, draft, hot oil concentration. To reduce roll force and prevent scale defects. We get some merit rolling force, rolling torque, roll wear reduction, roll and strip surface roughness and hot rolling critical oil concentration 0.4%. Finally we are going to investigate the effect of hot rolling oil of on rolling with HSS Roll.

  • This paper designs a looper-tension controller for mass-flow stabilization in hot strip finishing mills. By Newton's 2nd law and Hooke's law, nonlinear dynamic equations on the looper-tension system are firstly derived, and linearized by a linearization algorithm using a Taylor's series expansion. Moreover, a tension calculation model is obtained from the nonlinear dynamic equations which is called as a soft sensor of strip tension between two neighboring stands. Next, a looper-tension servo controller is designed by an ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) algorithm, and it is combined with a minimal disturbance observer which to attenuate speed disturbances by AGC and operator interventions, etc.. Finally, it is shown from by a computer simulation that the proposed ILQ controller with a disturbance observer is very effective in stabilizing the strip mass-flow under some disturbances, moreover it has a good command following performance.

  • A diagnosis methodology for thickness quality in hot finishing mill is proposed based on multivariate statistical analysis. The thickness of hot strip is a key quality factor that is measured by x-ray thickness gauge. Currently, the thickness quality is guaranteed by upper and lower limit of thickness deviation from target thickness. But if any over-limit is occurred, there is no in-line method to identify the causes.   • Output and cost efficiency in the production of hot-rolled strip depend to a large content on the uniformity of geometric and mechanical properties over the length and width of the rolled end product. To ensure the homogeneous temperatures required for this during the rolling process a system to measure and evaluate the transverse temperature profile was developed and implemented in production. The systems used consist of temperature scanners and computers for measurement and data evaluation. The systems have been installed in Kwangyang hot strip mills, in the cases at the exit of the finishing train and at the entry of the coiler. They are used in production to determine the effect of the finishing train and the cooling zone on the technological properties of the hot rolled strip.

  • This paper designs a looper-tension controller for strip top-tail parts in hot strip finishing mills. A three-degree linear model of the looper-tension system is derived by a Taylor's linearization method, where the actuator's dynamics are ignored because of their fast responses. A feedforward shaping controller for the strip top part and a feedforward model reference controller for the strip tail part are respectively designed, they are combined with an ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) feedback controller for the strip middle part. It is shown from by a computer simulation that the proposed controller is very effective to the strip top-tail parts including the middle part.

  • This paper studies on the relation between linearization methods and controller gains in the looper ILQ(lnverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) system for hot strip finishing mills. Firstly, two linear models arc respectively derived by a linearization method using Taylor's series expansion and a static state feedback linearization method, respectively, and the linear models are compared with the nonlinear model. Secondly, the looper servo controllers are respectively designed on the basis of two linearization models. Finally, the relation between the performances of two ILQ servo controllers and the linearization methods, and the structures and control gains of two controllers are evaluated by a computer simulation.
