The BNR-MBR(Biological Nutrient Removal-Membrane Bioreactor) for nutrient removal from high-rise building in hot climate region

  • The overall performance of BNR-MBR, so-called Anoxic-Anaerobic-Aerobic Membrane Bioreactor ($A^3$-MBR), developed for nutrient removal was studied to determine the efficiencies and mechanisms under different solid retention time (SRT). The reactor was fed by synthetic high-rise building wastewater with a COD:N:P ratio of 100:10:2.5. The results showed that TKN, TN and phosphorus removal by the system was higher than 95%, 93% and 80%, respectively. Nitrogen removal in the system was related to the simultaneous nitrification-denitrification (SND) reaction which removed all nitrogen forms in aerobic condition. SND reaction in the system occurred because of the large floc size formation. Phosphorus removal in the system related to the high phosphorus content in bacterial cells and the little effects of nitrate nitrogen on phosphorus release in the anaerobic condition. Therefore, high quality of treated effluent could be achieved with the $A^3$-MBR system for various water reuse purposes.

GNP 첨가 탄소복합재료의 제조 및 마모 특성 평가 (Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of Carbon Fiber/Graphene Nano-Platelets Composites for Wear Resistance Application)

  • GNPs have several excellent mechanical properties including high strength, a good young's modulus, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, electronic shielding, etc. In this study, CF/GNP/Epoxy composites were manufactured using GNP weight ratios of 0.15 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 0.7 wt% and 1 wt%. The composites were manufactured with a mechanical method (3-roll-mill). Tensile, impact and wear tests were performed according to ASTM standards D3039, D256 and D3181, respectively. The results show that the CF/GNP0.3wt%/Epoxy composites have good mechanical properties, e.g., tensile strength and impact and wear resistance. In this study, both carbon fabric and GNPs were used as reinforcements in the composites. The mechanical properties increased and weight loss decreased as the GNP content in the resin films was increased.

  • The Ti-aluminide intermetallic compound was formed from high purity elemental Ti and Al foils by self-propagating, high-temperature synthesis(SHS) in hot press. formation of $TiAl_3$ at the interface between Ti and Al foils was controlled by temperature, pressure, heating rate, and so on. According to the thermal analysis, it is known in this study that the heating rate is the most important factor to form the intermetallic compound by this SHS reaction. The V layer addition between Al and Ti foils increased SHS reaction temperatures. The fully dense, well-boned inter-metallic composite($TiA1/Ti_3$Al) sheets of 700 m thickness were formed by heat treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 10 hours after the SHS reaction of alternatively layered 10 Ti and 9 Al foils with the V coating layer. The phases and microstructures of intermetallic composite sheets were confirmed by EPMA and XRD.

  • A generation rate of sludge in Korea had increased dramatically about 200 % for a decade. A requirement for high efficiency dewatering system being possible to produce the low water content cake have suggested due to the appearanceof commercial and social problems about handling of dewatered cake. The conventional dewatering system with mechanical compression device was not suitable to produce the low water content cake and didn'tcope with lots of requirements. Therefore, this paper was to develop the high efficient filter press with the compressive and heating forces through the heating plate to be built between membrane filter plates. It is possible to produce the low water content cake and improve the dewatering rate, so this equipment positively coped with several types of problems related to the sludge dewatering. The plate heated by heat transfer materials such as steam, hot water and thermo-oil made the sludge make the residual moisture within the cake to discharge easilyand to improve the dewatering efficiency of equipment. The pilot scale experiment with 500kg of cake production showed that the dewatering efficiency determined by the final water content and dewatering velocity was improved 30% more than the conventional dewatering equipment.

$Cr_2O_3$가 탄성 표면파 필터용 PSS-PZT계 압전 세라믹스에 미치는 영향 (Effects of $Cr_2O_3$ Addition in PSS-PZT Piezoelectric Ceramics for Surface Acoustic Wave Filter)

  • To improve temperature stability, 0.05Pb(SnS11/2TSbS11/2T)OS13T-0.35PbTiOS13T-0.60PbZrOS13T+0.4[wt%]MnO S12T piezoelectic ceramics were manufactured with the addition of CrS12TOS13T by Hot Press method. And the SAW delay line was fabricated and effects of CrS12TOS13T to the propagation characteristics of SAW was investigated, and the SAW filter was fabricated on C4 specimen added by 0.2[wt%] CrS12TOS13T whose propagation characteriatics of surface acoustic wave were the bast and its frequency characteristics was investigated. Electromechancal coupling factor(kS1sTS02T) was 3.11[%] and its temperature coefficient of the center frequency(CS1foT)was -21.27[ppm/$^{\circ}C$] in C4. The 31[MHz]]SAW IF filter of C4 scarcely had diffraction phenomena and therefore it was proper.

AIN-hBN계 머시너블 세라믹스의 기계적 특성 및 엔드밀링 가공성 평가 (Mechanical Properties and End-milling Characteristic of AIN-hBN Based Machinable Ceramics)

  • In this study, machining characteristics of AIN-hBN composites were evaluated in end-milling process. As a first step, AIN-hBN composite specimens with various hBN contents were prepared using hot press method. Material properties of the composites, such as relative density, Young's modulus and fracture toughness, were measured and compared. Then, a series of end-milling experinients were performed under various cutting conditions by changing cutting speed, depth-of-cut and feed rate. Cutting force variations were measured using a tool dynamometer during the cutting experiments. Machined surfaces of the specimens were observed using SEM and a surface pro filer to investigate the surface integrity changes. The cutting force decreased with an increases of hBN content. The cutting process was almost impossible for monolithic AIN, owing to severe chipping. In contrast, at high content of hBN, surface damage and chipping decreased, and better surface roughness can be obtained.

Effect of Sintering Temperature on the Grain Size and Mechanical Properties of Al2O3-SiC Nanocomposites

  • In this research, some mechanical properties of Al2O3-based composites containing nanoSiC and nanoMgO additives, including elasticity modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness, have been evaluated. Micron-sized Al2O3 powders containing 0.08 wt.% nanoMgO particles have been mixed with different volume fractions of nanoSiC particles (2.5 to 15 vol.%). Untreated samples have been sintered by using hot-press technique at temperatures of 1600 to 1750℃. The results show significant increases in the mechanical characteristics with increases in the sintering temperature and amount of nanoSiC particles, with the result that the elasticity modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness were obtained as 426 GPa, 21 GPa, and 4.5 MPa.m1/2, respectively.

Damage identification of substructure for local health monitoring

  • A challenging problem in structural damage detection based on vibration data is the requirement of a large number of sensors and the numerical difficulty in obtaining reasonably accurate results when the system is large. To address this issue, the substructure identification approach may be used. Due to practical limitations, the response data are not available at all degrees of freedom of the structure and the external excitations may not be measured (or available). In this paper, an adaptive damage tracking technique, referred to as the sequential nonlinear least-square estimation with unknown inputs and unknown outputs (SNLSE-UI-UO) and the sub-structure approach are used to identify damages at critical locations (hot spots) of the complex structure. In our approach, only a limited number of response data are needed and the external excitations may not be measured, thus significantly reducing the number of sensors required and the corresponding computational efforts. The accuracy of the proposed approach is illustrated using a long-span truss with finite-element formulation and an 8-story nonlinear base-isolated building. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach is capable of tracking the local structural damages without the global information of the entire structure, and it is suitable for local structural health monitoring.

  • In this studies, structural, dielectrical piezoelectrical properties and temperature stability of 0.05Pb(Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$+ 0.95Pb($Zr_{0.53}Tio_{0.47}$)$O_3$+$\alpha$[wt%] $Cr_2O_3$ piezoelectric ceramics fabricated by the Hot-Press method were investigated. And Poisson ratios of the specimens were measured in order to see that they can be used as the substrates for energy-trapped devices. The specimens of which Poisson ratio was more than 3/1 had the $\alpha$ range 0.3~0.75, and piezoelectric properties were degraded in the range $\alpha$$\geq$0.75, and temperature stability was good in the $\alpha$ range 0.5~0.75. Accordingly, the optimal point of $Cr_2O_3$ additive weight is sure to be in the vicinity of 0.5[wt%].

액상소결 탄화규소 세라믹스의 제조 및 고온기계적 특성 (Fabrication and High-temerature Mechanical Property of Liquid-Phase-Sintered SiC)

  • Liquid-phase-sintered (LPS) SiC materials were briefly examined with their microstructure and mechanical property. Especially, effect of high-temperature exposure on the tendency of fracture toughness of LPS-SiC were introduced. The LPS-SiC was fabricated in hot-press by sintering powder mixture of sub-micron SiC and sintering additives of Al2O3-Y2O3. LPS-SiC represented dense morphology and SiC grain-growth with some amount of micro-pores and clustered additives as pore-filling. The strength of LPS-SiC might affected by distribution of micro-pores. LPS-SiC tended to decrease fracture toughness depending on increasing exposure temperature and time.
