Samples of 13 species of forest tree leaves fed to livestock in the semi-hilly arid zone of Punjab State in India were collected at 30 d interval for 12 months, in order to assess their nutritional worth for livestock. The ground samples were pooled for 4 different seasons viz. dry hot, hot humid, fall and winter. The chemical composition irrespective of the season revealed that CP content varied between 8.9 (Carrisa) to 22.0% (Leucaena). Globulin was the major protein fraction in most of the leaves. The lowest concentration of cell wall constituents was observed in Morus alba and Grewea. The leaves in general became fiberous and lignified during winter and fall as compared to summer season. The leaves of Grewea, Morus alba, Leucaena, Carrisa and Acacia were rich in Ca, P and most of the trace elements. The total phenolics ranged between 1.88% (Azardirachta) to 15.82% (Acacia). The leaves of Acacia had the highest concentration of hydrolysable tannins (14.6%) whereas that of Carrisa had that of condensed tannins (5.9%). The condensed tannins (more than 3%) were negatively correlated to the digestibility of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and crude protein (CP). The digestion kinetic parameters for DM, NDF and CP revealed that leaves of Morus alba, Zizyphus and Ehretia had highest insoluble but potentially degradable fraction. The minimum rumen fill values also revealed that leaves of Grewea, Azardirachta, Morus, Ehretia and Leucaena had great potential for voluntary DM intake. The leaves of Ougeinia, Malha, Dodenia and Carrisa had significantly higher rumen fill value indicating poor potential for voluntary DM intake. Season did not have any significant impact on digestion kinetic parameters except that most of the leaves had low potentially degradable fraction, which was degraded at slow rate during winter. It was concluded that the leaves of Morus, Ehretia, Grewea and Leucaena had great potential as livestock feed, while feeding of Ougeinia, Malha and Dodonea leaves should be avoided.

Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy and precision of airborne metal analysis using polyvinyl chloride(PVC) membrane filter by pretreatment methods. Methods: A total of 75 spiked PVC samples for Cr, Fe and Mn ranged from 6 ug/sample to 40 ug/sample were used to evaluate recovery rates for three pretreatment methods: acid extraction, hot plate ashing and microwave digestion. For Mn, an additional 75 spiked mixed cellulose ester(MCE) membrane filters were analysed to compare the recovery rates of PVC samples. All samples were analysed with an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer(ICP-OES) and manganese samples were additionally analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometer(AAS). Results: The overall mean recovery rates of PVC samples for Cr, Fe and Mn were 90% or higher regardless of pretreatment methods, but there were statistically significant differences in recovery rates for Cr(p<0.05) and Mn(p<0.01) samples by pretreatment methods. The biases and the coefficient variations of PVC samples for three metals pretreated with three kinds of pretreatment methods ranged from 1.7% to 4.7% and from 1.6% to 6.5%, respectively. The manganese PVC samples pretreated by microwave digestion and analyzed with ICP-OES had the lowest bias at 1.9% and also showed lower bias than the bias for MCE samples, 2.7%. Conclusions: In order to accurately analyze the metals sampled with PVC membrane filters, microwave digestion and ICP-OES can be recommended.
I had come at the conclusion of the development history of Disease Bi(痞病) reflected in Yi Cheon (李梴)'s work, "Euhakibmun(醫學入門)" in the respects of the causes, mechanism, symptoms, differential diagnosis and treatments. The causes of Disease Bi(痞病) mentioned at "Euhakibmun(醫學入門)" followed the Ju Dan-Gyeo(朱丹溪)'s theory. The mechanism of it went after the viewpoints of "Nae-Gyeong(內經)", Jang Jung-Gyeong(張仲景), Yi Dong-Won(李東垣) and Wang Ho-Go(王好古). The symptoms of it kept the Ju Dan-Gyeo(朱丹溪)'s theory. Yi Cheon distinguished Disease Bi(痞病) from Gyeol-Hyung(結胸) according to Jang Jung-Gyeong's theory. He knew it from abdominal dropsy(脹滿) according to Ju Dan-Gyeo's theory. He also divided it into two respects of deficiency(虛) and excessive(實) from Yi Dong-Won's viewpoint. Jang Jung-Gyeong first suggested that treatments of it could be selected according to the difference of deficiency, excessive(實), cold(寒), hot(熱), sputum(痰), fluid(飮), blood(血) and food(食). Yi Dong-Won insisted many doctors could make a mistake because they only used herbs for Gi(氣藥) instead of herbs for blood(血藥) together. Wang Ho-Go(王好古) maintained his opinion that treatments of both digestion(消導) and assistance(補益), remedies of bitter and hot herbs can recover patients from Disease Bi(痞病). Yi Cheon followed their theories properly.
Thirty-six Najdi ram lambs, weighing an average of 24 kg and circa 3 months old, were utilized in this trial to evaluate the effects of various alfalfa hay particle lengths in the diet on growth performance, digestion coefficients, nitrogen retention and carcass characteristics. Lambs were randomly allotted to three dietary treatments: 9.5 and 14 mm diets, where alfalfa hay was processed to 9.5 and 14 mm particle lengths, respectively, mixed with 3 parts of concentrate and pelleted as a total mixed ration (TMR), and long hay diet, where one part of loose alfalfa hay (17.8${\pm}$2.4 cm) was offered in combination with 3 parts of only-concentrate pellet. All dietary treatments were homogeneous in their ingredient composition. All lambs were slaughtered after a 14-week feeding trial. Although the results showed no significant effect of hay particle length on DMI, TDN and DCP, lambs fed the 9.5 mm pelleted diet had higher (p<0.05) final body weight, ADG, gain efficiency and nitrogen retention than lambs fed the 14 mm and long hay diets. Altering the particle length of alfalfa hay in diets did not affect the digestibility of DM or CP, whereas digestibilities of ADF and NDF were 3.7% and 5.4% higher (p<0.05), respectively, for the long hay diet versus the 9.5 mm pelleted diet. Hot carcass weight, percentage of separable lean from the $9-11^{th}$ rib joint, and percentages of protein and EE in the separable lean increased (p<0.05) as the particle length of alfalfa hay in the diet decreased. Under the conditions of this study, the reduction of particle length in the TMR played an important role in enhancing performance without altering DM consumption, and this may lead to more efficient productivity of lamb fattening compared with longer chopping lengths.

1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate constitutional ordinary and pathological symptoms differences among each constitutional groups of stroke in-patients. 2. Methods 101 stroke in-patients(Soyangin(SY) $n^{a)}=52$, Taeumin(TE) n=39, Soeumin(SE) n=10) hospitalized at Kyung-Hee Oriental medical center from Nov. 2003 to Sept. 2004 were investigated through questionnaire which consists of 18 parts, 289 questions(156 questions concerned ordinary symptoms and 133 pathological symptoms). The answers were analyzed statistically in order to find the questions which represent the significant differences among each constitutional groups. ( a) number of patients) 3. Results As for the ordinary symptoms, majority of the Soyangin group replied that they experienced "frequent dreams during sleep" and "scarce constipation". Majority of the Taeumin group affirmed to "dark redness of face", "dry nose", "low intolerance of heat", "good appetite and digestion", and "frequent overeating experiences". Majority of the Soeumin group affirmed to "pale face", "insomnia", "frequent constipation", "poor appetite and digestion", "small amount of diet", "slow eating", "fond of warm or hot water", and "easily tired(especially after sweating)". As for the pathological symptoms, majority of the Taeumin group affirmed to "frequent optic fatigue", "frequent tinnitus", "frequent bitter mouth", "fond of cold water", "flatulent", "stuffiness in the navel area", "irregular stool habits", "frequent constipation", "large amount of sweat", and "frequent rigidity of neck". Majority of the Soeumin group affirmed to "bad appetite", "fond of warm or hot water", "drink small amount of water", "sensitive during sleep" and "frequent heavy head". 4. Conclusions Through this study, We found statistically significant questions distinguishing the characteristics of each constitutional group.
An experiment was conducted with three ruminally and intestinally cannulated non-lactating cows of Finnish Ayrshire breed, to assess the ruminal degradation characteristics of oat (Avena sativa), rye (Secale cereale) and rice (Oryza sativa) straw by the nylon bag technique, and the subsequent post-ruminal degradation of their rumen-undegraded residues by using the mobile bag technique, respectively. The straw samples were untreated or treated with aqueous $NH_3$ or with urea solution in cold or hot water. The untreated straw samples were milled or chopped, and the treated straw samples were chopped. The constant values a, b, and c were computed according to the exponential equation, where a = intercept of degradation curve at time 0, b = potentially degradable material, c = rate of degradation of band (a+b) = maximum potential degradability (asymptote). It was found that nitrogen contents of chemically treated straw were markedly increased by both $NH_3$ and urea treatments. Milling the samples attributed to a remarkable loss at 0 h incubation time as compared to chopping of the respective samples. However, chemical treatment markedly improved the b value and the subsequent (a+b) values for dry matter, organic matter, neutral-detergent fiber, and acid-detergent fiber of the samples. Furthermore, temperature of the water used in the urea solutions was considered essential, since urea in hot water rather than in cold water seemed to enhance the overall degradability. The disappearance of rumen-incubated straw residues from the mobile bags ranged from 4.5 to 9.6% for the parameters measured. On average, the OM disappearance from bags was clearly higher for the residues of urea treated straw compared to those of ammonia treated straw, but the disappearance of NDF tended, however, to be higher on the ammonia treatment.
There are many factors to evoke pain, for example cold, heat, seven emotion, digestion, fatigue, venemous worms, deficiency of blood etc., and its pathogenesis is complicated. Treatments for pain in oriental medicine are as follows. 1. Pharmacotherapy is a method to treat pain by different effects of herbal medicine, for example, regulating vital energy, activating blood circulation, eliminating phlegm, and dispelling the cold evil etc. 2. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is a kind of external application, it has a distinct effect in relieving pain. Recently its operation method has been more developed, so new acupuncture therapies are used in clinics. There are electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture and injection of drugs at an acupuncture points etc. 3. Oriental physiotherapy is a treatment method to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians. (1) Hot pack, Paraffin bath, Microwave, Ultrasound, Short wave, Infra-red etc. are used to treat cold syndrome by dispersing cold by warming the channels. (2) E.S.T., I.C.T., T.E.N.S., S.S.P., cupping treatment etc. are used to treat disorders of vital energy. (3) Health ion, Carbon, T.D.P., etc are used to treat conic and deficiency syndrome.

The Tancheon wastewater treatment plant(WWTP) in Seoul using anaerobic digestion to reduce the outlet sludge produces anaerobic digester gas which contains 65% $CH_4$ and 35% $CO_2$. The gas purification equipment was installed and operated to use Anaerobic Digester Gas(ADG) as a fuel for molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC). The processes consist of the desulfurizer and the adsorption tower to remove $H_2S$ and siloxane in the gas. The gas purification equipment removed virtually over 95% of $H_2S$ and over 99% of siloxane. Results has demonstrated that the fuel cell can produce electrical output and hot water with negligible air emissions of CO, NOx and $SO_2$. The site provides the first opportunity in Korea for demonstrating Molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC) which the digester gas was applied to the fuel gas.
To develop natural intermediate flavoring substances, optimal hydrolysis conditions and taste compounds for two step enzyme hydrolysate(TSEH) using Grass puffer(Takifugu niphobles) were investigated. The optimal conditions for TSEH method were revealed in temperature at $55^{\circ}C$ 3 hour digestion with Alcalase (pH 7.5) at the 1st step and 2 hour at $45^{\circ}C$ digestion with Flavourzyme(pH 6.0~6.5) at the 2nd step. TSEH method was superior to hot-water extraction on the aspect of yield, nitrogen contents and organoleptic taste quality such as umami and control of bitter taste formation. In taste active-components in Glass puffer TSEH, total free amino acid content was 4,502 mg%, major free amino acids were Pro, Leu, Lys, Hypro, Tau, Arg, Phe, Ala, Glu and Val in ordor. As for nucleotides, IMP(372 mg%) was the principal component and also contents of TMAO, total creatinine, and betaine were 43, 278 and 41 mg% in Glass puffer TSEH, respectively. The major inorganic ions in TSEH were Na(949 mg%), K(222 mg%), Cl(1,180 mg%) and $PO_4$(1,081 mg%).
