Experiment and modeling of liquid-phase flow in a venturi tube using stereoscopic PIV

  • Venturi tube is based on turbulent flow, whereby the microbubbles can be generated by the turbulent fragmentation. This phenomenon is common in several venturi bubblers used by the nuclear, aerospace and chemical industries. The first objective of this paper is to study the liquid-phase velocity field experimentally and develop correlations for the turbulent quantities. The second objective is to research velocity field characteristics theoretically. Stereoscopic PIV measurements for the velocity field have been analyzed and utilized to develop the turbulent kinetic energy in the venturi tube. The tracking properties of the tracer particles have been verified enough for us to analyze the turbulence field. The turbulence kinetic energy has a bimodal distribution trend. Also, the results of turbulence intensity along the horizontal direction is gradually uniform along the downstream. Both the mean velocity and the fluctuation velocity are proportional to the Reynolds number. Besides, the distribution trend of the mean velocity and the velocity fluctuation can be determined by the geometric parameters of the venturi tube. An analytical function model for the flow field has been developed to obtain the approximate analytical solutions. Good agreement is observed between the model predictions and experimental data.

  • The $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$ algebraic stress model (KEASM) was applied to atmospheric dispersion simulation using the Lagrangian particle dispersion model and was compared with the most popular turbulence closure model in the field of atmospheric simulation, the Mellor-Yamada (MY) model. KEASM has been rarely applied to atmospheric simulation, but it includes the pressure redistribution effect of buoyancy due to heat and momentum fluxes. On the other hand, such effect is excluded from MY model. In the simulation study, the difference in the two turbulence models was reflected to both the turbulent velocity and the Lagrangian time scale. There was little difference in the vertical diffusion coefficient $\sigma$$_{z}$. However, the horizontal diffusion coefficient or calculated by KEASM was larger than that by MY model, coincided with the Pasquill-Gifford (PG) chart. The applicability of KEASM to atmospheric simulations was demonstrated by the simulations.s.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the performance characteristics of the paint particulate and volatile organic compounds(VOCs) simultaneous removal from the spraying paint booth in the laboratory and real site by sticky paint particulate and VOCs simultaneous removal demonstration unit. The sticky paint particulate and VOCs simultaneous removal unit is composed of the horizontal type pleated filter modules and the zig-zag type granular activated carbon packing modules. The test conditions at the laboratory are $50.15g/m^3$ of average paint aerosol concentration and 300 ppm of VOCs concentration which were same as the working conditions of spraying paint booth in the real site. But, the demonstration conditions at the real site are varied according to the working condition of spraying paint booth for the kind of passenger car bodies. The test results at the laboratory obtained that 99% of total particulate collection efficiency at 0.62 m/min of filtration velocity and 84% at 1.77 m/min of filtration velocity. The VOCs removal efficiencies are 97% at $3500hr^{-1}$ of gas hour space velocity and 59% at $10,000hr^{-1}$ of gas hour space velocity. In the real site test, the average removal efficiency of PM10 was measured to be 99.65%, the average removal efficiency of PM2.5 was 99.38%, the average removal efficiency of PM1 was 98.52%, and the average removal efficiency of VOCs was 89%.

수평원통관에서 선회유동의 난동속도에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Swirl Fluctuation Velocity in a Horizontal Circular Tube)

  • During the past five decades or so, the characteristics of turbulent swirling flow have been studied extensively because of its great technological and scientific importance. It is well known that the swirling flow improves heat transfer in duct flow. The reason for this is due to the effect of streamline curvature associated with the tangential velocity component. Although many studies have been carried out to investigate the characteristics of the swirling flow in a circular tube. The experimental methods for measuring the velocity components are by hot-wire or LDV (Laser-Doppler-Velocimetry) measuring single point velocity so far. The present study was aimed to analyse the flow characteristics of swirling flow such as time-mean velocity vector, local velocity turbulence intensity and turbulence kinetic energy by using PIV(Particle-Image Velocimetry). The experiment was carried out for four Reynold numbers $1.0\times10^{4}$, $1.5\times10^{4}$, $2.0\times10^{4}$ and $2.5\times10^{4}$ of the measuring area.

유한차분식을 이용한 Transverse 이방성(異方性) 매질내 Love채널파동 연구 (A Finite-difference Modeling of Love Channel Waves in Transversely Isotropic Medium)

  • 이 논문은 transverse 이방성(異方性) 매질내 Love 채널파동 수치해석에 관한 연구를 요약한 것이다. 먼저, 이를 위하여 상기한 매질내 SH파동방정식으로부터 2차 근사 양(陽)유한차분식을 유도하였다. 이 유한차분식은 매 격자점마다 상이한 물성을 정해줄 수 있기 때문에, 복잡한 모델구조를 추가로, 내부 경계조건 처리를 함이 없이, 매우 효율적으로 해석할 수 있을 것이다. 등방성(等方性) 석탄층에 대한 해석결과, 본 연구에서 작성한 탄성파기록이 기존의 Korn and $St{\ddot{o}}ckl$의 것과 본질적으로 동일함을 확인하였다. 다음, 이방성(異方性) 석탄층에 대한 해석에서는, Love 채널파동의 군(群)속도가 석탄층의 수평방향 속도의 증감에 따라 증감됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 현재의 연구단계에선, Love 채널파동을 이용하여 저(低) 속도층의 조성(組成), 층서(層序), 균열등에 관한 정보를 이끌어 낼 수는 없었다. 이러한 정보는 석유탐사 및 개발의 측면에서 중요하기 때문에, 앞으로 이와 관련된 채널파동 연구가 기대된다.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WALL IMPINGEMENT AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS ON GDI SPRAY

  • The direct injection gasoline spray-wall interaction was characterized inside a heated pressurized chamber using various visualization techniques, including high-speed laser-sheet macroscopic and microscopic movies up to 25,000 frames per second, shadowgraph, and double-spark particle image velocimetry. Two hollow cone high-pressure swirl injectors having different cone angles were used to inject gasoline onto a heated plate at two different impingement angles. Based on the visualization results, the overall transient spray impingement structure, fuel film formation, and preliminary droplet size and velocity were analyzed. The results show that upward spray vortex inside the spray is more obvious at elevated temperature condition, particularly for the wide-cone-angle injector, due to the vaporization of small droplets and decreased air density. Film build-up on the surface is clearly observed at both ambient and elevated temperature, especially for narrow cone spray. Vapor phase appears at both ambient and elevated temperature conditions, particularly in the toroidal vortex and impingement plume. More rapid impingement and faster horizontal spread after impingement are observed for elevated temperature conditions. Droplet rebounding and film break-up are clearly observed. Post-impingement droplets are significantly smaller than pre-impingement droplets with a more horizontal velocity component regardless of the wall temperature and impingement angle condition.

피라미드형 패조류용 어초의 수리학적 특성 (Hydraulic Characteristics of Two Types of Pyramid-Shaped Artificial Reefs)

  • 본 연구에서는 2종류의 피라미드형 패조류용 인공어초의 안정성 평가를 위해 Froude 상사법칙을 적용한 고정상 및 이동상 수리모형실험을 수행하였으며, 현장 설계외력(파랑, 흐름 등) 조건에 따라 이론적/실험적 검토를 하였다. 실험 결과는 파랑-흐름 공존장에서 어초의 안정성에 영향을 미치는 무차원 영향인자(설계파라메타)인 쇄파상사지수, 수립자속도, 파압 등을 사용하여 상호관련성을 검토하였다. 그 실험결과, 어초의 활동을 일으키는 한계조건은 고정상 실험에서는 쇄파상사지수에 따라서 무차원 최대수립자속도가 약 0.4 이상일 때, 이동상 실험에서는 무차원 파압에 따라서 상대수심이 약 0.11 이하일 때 나타났다. 또한 상대수심에 따른 수평 및 연직 파압은 상대수심이 증감함에 따라서 선형적으로 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다.

다성분 해저면 탄성파 탐사자료에 대한 음향파 완전파형역산 전략 (Acoustic Full-waveform Inversion Strategy for Multi-component Ocean-bottom Cable Data)

  • 음향파 완전파형역산은 탄성파 탐사를 통해 얻은 관측자료와 음향파 모델링자료를 맞춤으로써 지층의 속도모델을 고해상도로 구축하는 최적화 과정이다. 기존의 스트리머를 이용한 해양 탄성파 탐사 자료에 대한 음향파 완전파형역산에서는 압력자료만을 활용하여 P파 속도모델을 구축한다. 그러나 최근 다성분 해저면 탄성파 탐사기술의 발달로 다성분자료의 취득 사례가 늘고 있으며, 이에 따라 해양에서 얻어지는 다성분 자료를 활용한 음향파 완전파형역산 기법에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 수평 및 수직 입자가속도 자료를 활용한 효과적인 음향파 완전파형역산 전략을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 우선 음향파 모델링으로 제작된 압력 및 입자가속도 자료와 민감도커널을 분석하여 파형역산 과정에서 각 자료의 성분별 특성을 관찰하였다. 압력 자료에 함께 나타났던 직접파, 다이빙파 및 반사파가 수직 및 수평 입자가속도 자료에서 파동의 진행방향에 따라 분리되어 나타나는 것을 확인하였으며, 수평 입자가속도 자료는 상부의 장파장구조를, 수직 입자가속도 자료는 하부의 장파장구조와 전체 영역에서의 단파장구조를 구축하는 데 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 입자가속도 자료만을 활용해 음향파 완전파형역산을 수행하는 순차적 자료 활용전략을 제시하며, 압력자료를 얻지 못하였거나 품질이 낮은 경우에도 입자가속도 자료를 활용하는 음향파 완전파형역산을 통해 양호한 P파 속도모델을 구축할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • An experimental Investigation was performed to study the characteristics of Electro-Rheological fluid flow in a horizontal rectangular tube with or without D.C electric field control. First, the microscopic behavior of the ER suspension structure between rectangular tube brass electrodes for the stationary ER nut(i and flow of the ER fluid was investigated by flow visualization. The flow of the ER fluid between fluid rectangular tube was solved experimental using the constitutive equation for a Bingham fluid. ER fluid is made silicon oil mixed with $0.2wt\%$ starch having hydrous particles. Velocity distributions of the ER fluids were obtained by particle image velocimetry measuring those of the clusters using an image processing technique.

  • The flow characteristics in a vaneless diffuser with a backswept radial impeller have been experimentally investigated according to the variation of discharge flow rate. Particle image velocimetry(PIV) system was applied to measure velocity fields with several operating conditions and on some diffuser horizontal planes. Pressure transducers were installed on hub wall of the diffuser in order to analyze the pressure fluctuations and their corresponding velocity fields. The results show that the location of the main flow center moves from the hub to the shroud side as the flow rate decreases, and the reverse flow is locally generated on the hub side.
