  • We propose a mechanism for monitoring load in quality of service (QoS)-enabled wireless networks and show how it can be used for network management as well as for dynamic pricing. Mobile network traffic, especially video, has grown exponentially over the last few years and it is anticipated that this trend will continue into the future. Driving factors include the availability of new affordable, smart devices, such as smart-phones and tablets, together with the expectation of high quality user experience for video as one would obtain at home. Although new technologies such as long term evolution (LTE) are expected to help satisfy this demand, the fact is that several other mechanisms will be needed to manage overload and congestion in the network. Therefore, the efficient management of the expected huge data traffic demands is critical if operators are to maintain acceptable service quality while making a profit. In the current work, we address this issue by first investigating how the network load can be accurately monitored and then we show how this load metric can then be used to provide creative pricing plans. In addition, we describe its applications to features like traffic offloading and user satisfaction tracking.

  • In ubiquitous home where a variety of home devices and sensors are inter-connected, various services can be provided through wired and wireless networks invisibly. The convenience of users can be maximized by using intelligent and adaptive interoperability technologies in the home. In this paper, we present the core techniques including context-awareness, management of context information from various sensors, an inference module using JESS and so on. Also we design the ubiquitous home service systems based on context-awareness.

  • In the virtual home environment (VHE), which was proposed to offer global roaming and personal service environment portability, user's profiles and service logics are conveyed from home network to visited network to provide services at the visited network. Because user's profiles and service logics may contain confidential information, some procedures for mutual authentication among entities for offering confidence are needed. For these issues, we propose and analyze three 3-Party mutual authentication Protocols adaptable to the VHE in 3G ; password based mutual authentication protocol, mutual authentication protocol with CHAP and key exchange and mutual authentication protocol with trusted third party.

  • Collaborative consumption (CC) occurs in organized systems or networks in which participants conduct sharing activities in the form of renting, lending, trading, bartering, and swapping of goods, services, transportation solutions, space, or money. Information and communications technologies (ICTs) that have emerged with CC. CC is expected to alleviate social problems such as hyper-consumption, pollution, and poverty by lowering the cost of economic coordination. In this study, we investigate the influence of educational experience and expected benefits of CC participation (intended to using and providing CC) of Adolescent Consumers. The subjects for the study were 418 high school students. Data was analyzed through frequency analysis, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS Win 21.0. The results of this study are as follows. First, the significant positive relationship found between CC participants (intent to use and provide CC), educational experience (home education, school education, and mass media) and expected benefits (social benefit, economic benefit, enjoyment, community effect, and reputation). Second, enjoyment, mass media, reputation, social benefit, home education and school education values were variables that influenced the using participation intention for CC. Third, the major variables influencing the providing participation intention CC were home education, enjoyment, gender, community effect, and mass media values.

  • Background: Little attention has been paid to the relationship between perceived discrimination and self-rated health (SRH) among foreign workers in Korea. Transnational ties with the home country are known to be critical among immigrants, as they allow the maintenance of social networks and support. Nonetheless, as far as we know, no studies have examined the impact of transnational ties on SRH itself and the relationship between perceived discrimination and SRH, which the current study tries to examine. Methods: Logistic regression analyses were conducted using the 2013 Survey on Living Conditions of Foreign Workers in Korea. Adult foreign workers from different Asian countries (n = 1,370) participated in this study. The dependent variable was good SRH and the independent variable was perceived discrimination. Transnational ties with the home country, as a moderating variable, was categorized into broad (i.e., contacting family members in the home country) vs. narrow types (i.e., visiting the home country). Results: Foreign workers who perceived discrimination had a lower rate of good SRH than those who did not perceive discrimination. Broad social transnational ties moderated the relationship between perceived discrimination and SRH; narrow social transnational ties did not. Conclusions: In line with previous studies, an association was found between perceived discrimination and SRH. Broad social transnational ties can be a good source of social support and buffer against the distress of perceived discrimination.

  • Recent advancement in wireless communications and electronics has enabled the development of low-cost sensor networks. The sensor networks can be used for various application areas(e.g., health, military, home). For different application areas, there are different technical issues that researchers are currently resolving. The current stats of the art of sensor networks is captured in this article, where solutions are discussed under their related protocol stack layer sections. This article also point out the open research issues and intends to spark new interests and developments in this field.

  • A femtocell is a small cellular base station, typically designed for use in a home or small business. The random deployment of a femtocell has a critical effect on the performance of a macrocell network due to co-channel interference. Utilizing the advantage of a multiple-input multiple-output system, each femto base station (FBS) is able to form a cluster and generates a precoding matrix, which is a modified version of conventional single-cell block diagonalization, in a cooperative manner. Since interference from clustered-FBSs located at the nearby macro user equipment (MUE) is the dominant interference contributor to the coexisting networks, each cluster generates a precoding matrix considering the effects of interference on nearby MUEs. Through simulation, we verify that the proposed algorithm shows better performance respective to both MUE and femto user equipment, in terms of capacity.
