A Study on Broadband PLC for Power IT (전력IT를 위한 광대역 전력선통신에 관한 연구)

  • From now on, power line communication was made use of controling using 450 kHz narrow band, but as the PLC technology developing, in the near future get to the commercial step that is broadband PLC upto 30 MHz. In this paper, analyze the possibility of moving picture transmission for adapting surveillance camera which is among of the application of PLC. To analyze characteristics of channel, estimate the noise and impedance of lab, office, home. In case of noise, there is no problem to communicate each other because of 20 ~ 50 dB gain. In case of impedance, average impedance is about 100 ohm, it satisfy standards of designing modem but because max and min values get out of expectation there are some problem to acquire fully capacity of modems. Its condition is the same as transmission of multimedia data. In this test as more packets, as more handling rate, in lab, for the case that transmit 1,518 byte as the speed of 6 Mbps handling rate is upto 100%, it means possibility of moving picture transmission as the 6 Mbps speed. For delayed time there is no relationship about transmitted packets. As a result, there is no problem about applying surveillance camera via the PLC. And more cameras can work within PLC for considering the number of transmitted frames.

Development and Effect Analysis of Experiential Electrical Safety Education System Based on Virtual Reality (가상현실 기반 체험형 전기안전 교육 시스템의 개발 및 효과 분석)

  • Every year, lives are lost due to electrical safety accidents that could have been prevented with proper education and awareness of electrical safety. To prevent such accidents, experiential education is more effective than indoctrination education. This paper describes the electrical safety education system based on virtual reality (VR) and evaluates effect of the proposed system. Users operated the experiential electrical safety education system, and they were provided electrical stimulation in an electric shock experience using a haptic device. Appropriate stimulation values were calculated according to age (children vs. adults) and gender through experiment. The scenario in which participants experience electrical safety in the home environment was structured, and related educational contents was produced. A total of 68 healthy elementary students evaluated the educational effect of the system. The results showed that the educational effect and the sustainability of effect of the proposed system are superior to those of existing multimedia learning methods. By implementing electrical safety education stimulating the senses of human, the learning effect was promoted and this experiential education would be able to prevent electrical accidents.

  • Recently, with various smart devices being used, more attention is paid to digital content development for kids. Many parents and teachers are using digital contents both at home and the classroom. However, there are many concerns on the delayed language ability development and lack of social skills due to children's overuse of digital technology. This study reviewed related literature on digital content for kids including storytelling videos, flash, animation, multimedia fairy tales, and app-books. Based on that, digital contents design guidelines were proposed. It was expected that by appropriate digital content design, children would like reading books just as they like watching digital contents.

  • We propose a Z-HBT line coding for a LED-ID system. Z-HBT line coding is defined as follows. First, we apply half bit transition to one bit. Second, we decode encoded bits using difference of bit transition level in one bit duration. As a result, we obtain advantages about synchronization problem and noise effect mitigation at the receiver. We set up outdoor the LED-ID simulation environment. At simulation results, we show 2-3dB gain as compared with existing line coding schemes. The results of the paper can be applied to design and implementation of LED-ID systems for indoor wireless multimedia services.

  • Devices compliant to the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Audio Video (A/V) specifications can easily establish multimedia home networks through zero or auto configuration. Despite the existing UPnP certification process many issues concerning interoperability still arise. Capabilities may not be fully implemented or there may be codec issues. Therefore, a means to check and verity interoperability prior to product purchasing or usage is necessary. In this paper, an implementation of a portable control point is proposed to store and manage UPnP device capability information. The portable control point can be used to find UPnP A/V compliant devices that are most compatible.

  • 멀티미디어 서비스 제공을 위해 Havi, Jini, LonWorks, UPnP, SLP 등 여러 미들웨어들이 현존하고 있음에도 불구하고, 홈네트워크가 계속 진화함에 따라 다양한 정보가전들에 대해 특화된 새로운 미들웨어들이 계속해서 등장할 것으로 예상된다. 본 논문은 홈네트워크 상에서 이질적인 미들웨어 간의 상호 연동을 위한 통합 구조 방식에 대해 고찰하고, 효율적인 멀티미디어 서비스 지원을 위하여 기존 방식과는 달리 이질적인 미들웨어를 통합하는 표준 메소드 기반의 통합 구조를 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 HOMI 구조 (HOmenetwork Middleware for Interoperability)는 이기종 미들웨어간의 연동을 위해 표준 메소드를 사용하여 이기종 장치들이 서비스를 인식하고 사용할 수 있는 인터페이스를 제공한다. HOMI는 이러한 인터페이스를 통하여 기존의 통합 미들웨어 구조와는 다르게 표준 메소드를 사용하여 장치들간의 연동을 가능하게 함으로써 홈네트워크를 위한 이기종 가전들간 연동의 효율성과 편리성을 향상시켰다. HOMI는 댁내에 존재하는 멀티미디어 데이터 관리를 위하여 통합 멀티미디어 데이터관리 매니저를 두고, 장치들간에 연동이 가능하도록 함으로써 분산되어 있는 멀티미디어 데이터와 서비스를 언제 어디서든지 서비스 받을 수 있도록 지원한다. 마지막으로 HOMI는 통합 미들웨어를 위한 중앙 집중형 구조에서 멀티미디어 데이터 전송에 의한 부하 문제를 Agent들을 여러 장치에 분산할 수 있도록 함으로써 해결하였다.

  • EPON which is the economical technology of FTTH is being actively researched as one of next generation of subscriber configurations. EPON based on Ethernet should provide subscriber with dynamic bandwidth allocation so as to support QoS. Allocation per service in grade should be satisfied resulting from the increment of the latest multimedia application arid consumption. In this paper, New Algorithm is proposed to serve differential service on MAC protocol. The delay characteristic of packet and stability are analyzed that is shown the QoS of EPON network.

  • This paper presents the development of standardized modules and an integrated program which will be used for social environmental education. The study objectives are to develop modules which are based on various environmental topics, to relate the regional environmental topics to the educational modules and program, and to include the demand of students in the modules and program. Literature and questionary surveys, as well as, module development method were utilized as research tools. The titles of developed modules are “The Green Planet Earth, “Unexpected Resources: Save Resources and Recycle”, “Water as the Mother of All Lives”, “The Blue Sky with Clean Air”, and “Soil as the Home of All Living and Non-living Things”. It is hoped that the developed modules and program are utilized as course materials and curriculum for social environmental education in various educational institutes. The study results will be materialized as multimedia in near future.

  • This study attempts to develop e-learning contents for the "fashion information analysis," which should be performed in combination of theory and practice in fashion education, in a recent Web-based education environment. The e-learning contents are developed by using the three steps of analysis, design and development. In order to analyze the requirements of curricula, the status and content of fashion information related curricular provided by general universities and cyber universities are analyzed, and then on the basis of this analysis the education objectives and detailed contents of e-learning contents are determined. Design and development of e-learning contents consist of the types, education menus and education form. The types of e-learning contents are developed into an education form combined with tutorial and practice/activity types. The education menus are comprised of syllabic, the profiles of professors and students, announcements, questions and answers regarding respect subjects, materials, and notes. Meanwhile, the education form consists of the following sections: "Before the Learning", "Learning", "Review Questions", "Final Review", "References", and "Practice", "Before the Learning" consists of two parts of a theory lecture that is composed of video clips and Power-Point presentations, and practice that consists of an audio(or video) lecture and illustration or Photoshop software execution window.

  • The IEEE 802.11 based wireless local area networks are candidates to lead the broadband connectivity in the home and office scenarios. Recently IEEE proposed the 802.11e as a new standard to provide appropriate Quality of Services to a plethora of emerging real-time multimedia and high demanding applications such as high definition movie and audio distribution, video-conference and voice over IP. This paper studies the IEEE 802.11e/IEEE 802.11b interactions focusing on potential unfairness problems that might appear in networks with heterogeneous wireless LAN technologies as well as in the IEEE 802.11e deployment phase.
