  • The main problem of image projection on a transmission type holographic screen is color sepa-ration. And it can be overcome by using a long narrow slit type diffuser as a source of the object beam when we record the screen. But that screen is not optimized and so needs changing several conditions. To set up the system many complicate things should be taken into accounted so it is very important to analyze the basic structure by simple concepts and calculations. We designed the system so that recording and projection axis coincide in one line and showed that the analysis of the system is very simple. We did it by a 1st order paraxial approximation calculation and it was good enough to describe the system. The photo-emulsion layer shrinks after processing of the hologram. It induced unsatisfactory color matching at the viewing zone. To overcome this effect, we pre-checked the shrinkage rate of an emulsion layer by experiments and modified the recording set up to compensate for the amount of shrinkage.

  • Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time. Today any data storage system cannot satisfy these conditions, however holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System can be constructed without mechanical actuating part therefore fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about $1Tb/cm^3$ can be realized. In this paper, to reduce errors of binary data stored in holographic data storage system, a new method for bit error reduction is suggested. We proposal Algorithm use The Extended Kalman filter. The Kalman filter reduce measurement noise. Therefore, By using this error reduction method following results are obtained; the effect of measurement nois of Pixel is decreased and the intensity profile of data page becomes uniform therefore the better data storage system can be constructed.

  • In this paper, we review the applicability of fog screen to implement 'Spatial Augmented Reality' which displays the image on the whole space of real space or in real space by separating display equipment and user, in contrast to the traditional Augmented Reality. Through three exhibitions and one performance, we confirmed t hat the fog screen, which can be passed through, is a suitable material for implementing the Spatial Augment ed Reality. We found that the hologram production was easier than before because of fog screen. Through the questionnaire survey conducted on performers along with the exhibition, we found that only about half of people know what a fog screen is, and about 10% of the total respondents saw the fog screen. In order to investigate the effect of fog screen on the surrounding space, we conducted an experiment to observe the change of humidity according to the time and distance in the Children's Culture Center of the Asian Culture Center. We found that the humidity within a radius of 5m around the fog screen could increase by 2~3%($6,400m^3$ standard). Thus we provided some safety requirement with fog screen when works made of materials vulnerable to moisture such as paint, paper, and wood are exhibited at the same time with fog screen in the exhibition hall.

  • A new approach to reduce the computation time of genetic algorithm (GA) for making binary phase holograms is described. Synthesized holograms having diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are proven in computer simulation and experimentally demonstrated. Recently, computer-generated holograms (CGHs) having high diffraction efficiency and flexibility of design have been widely developed in many applications such as optical information processing, optical computing, optical interconnection, etc. Among proposed optimization methods, GA has become popular due to its capability of reaching nearly global. However, there exits a drawback to consider when we use the genetic algorithm. It is the large amount of computation time to construct desired holograms. One of the major reasons that the GA' s operation may be time intensive results from the expense of computing the cost function that must Fourier transform the parameters encoded on the hologram into the fitness value. In trying to remedy this drawback, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been put forward, allowing CGHs to be created easily and quickly (1), but the quality of reconstructed images is not high enough to use in applications of high preciseness. For that, we are in attempt to find a new approach of combiningthe good properties and performance of both the GA and ANN to make CGHs of high diffraction efficiency in a short time. The optimization of CGH using the genetic algorithm is merely a process of iteration, including selection, crossover, and mutation operators [2]. It is worth noting that the evaluation of the cost function with the aim of selecting better holograms plays an important role in the implementation of the GA. However, this evaluation process wastes much time for Fourier transforming the encoded parameters on the hologram into the value to be solved. Depending on the speed of computer, this process can even last up to ten minutes. It will be more effective if instead of merely generating random holograms in the initial process, a set of approximately desired holograms is employed. By doing so, the initial population will contain less trial holograms equivalent to the reduction of the computation time of GA's. Accordingly, a hybrid algorithm that utilizes a trained neural network to initiate the GA's procedure is proposed. Consequently, the initial population contains less random holograms and is compensated by approximately desired holograms. Figure 1 is the flowchart of the hybrid algorithm in comparison with the classical GA. The procedure of synthesizing a hologram on computer is divided into two steps. First the simulation of holograms based on ANN method [1] to acquire approximately desired holograms is carried. With a teaching data set of 9 characters obtained from the classical GA, the number of layer is 3, the number of hidden node is 100, learning rate is 0.3, and momentum is 0.5, the artificial neural network trained enables us to attain the approximately desired holograms, which are fairly good agreement with what we suggested in the theory. The second step, effect of several parameters on the operation of the hybrid algorithm is investigated. In principle, the operation of the hybrid algorithm and GA are the same except the modification of the initial step. Hence, the verified results in Ref [2] of the parameters such as the probability of crossover and mutation, the tournament size, and the crossover block size are remained unchanged, beside of the reduced population size. The reconstructed image of 76.4% diffraction efficiency and 5.4% uniformity is achieved when the population size is 30, the iteration number is 2000, the probability of crossover is 0.75, and the probability of mutation is 0.001. A comparison between the hybrid algorithm and GA in term of diffraction efficiency and computation time is also evaluated as shown in Fig. 2. With a 66.7% reduction in computation time and a 2% increase in diffraction efficiency compared to the GA method, the hybrid algorithm demonstrates its efficient performance. In the optical experiment, the phase holograms were displayed on a programmable phase modulator (model XGA). Figures 3 are pictures of diffracted patterns of the letter "0" from the holograms generated using the hybrid algorithm. Diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are measured. We see that the simulation and experiment results are fairly good agreement with each other. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm and Neural Network have been successfully combined in designing CGHs. This method gives a significant reduction in computation time compared to the GA method while still allowing holograms of high diffraction efficiency and uniformity to be achieved. • In this paper, we propose a high-level optical encryption system, which is tolerant with noises and cropping, by encrypting the phase-encoded CGH pattern of original image with the phase-encoded Fresnel diffraction pattern of random key images. For encryption, the phase-encoded CGH pattern of original image is multiplied by conjugate components which are the phase-encoded Fresnel diffraction patterns of random key images. The original information can be reconstructed by multiplying encrypted image by phase-encoded Fresnel diffraction pattern of random key images and performing Fourier transform of the multiplication result. The proposed system is robust to noises and cropping due to characteristics of CGH pattern and can guarantee high-level encryption by using Fresnel diffraction information. We verified the validity of proposed system by computer simulations, numerical analysis of noises and cropping effect and optical experiment.

  • This study, under the assumption that there may be a difference in colours recognized depending on background lightness and colour stimulus size, applied background lightness in a differential way and conducted an experiment by comparing the sizes of stimuli equivalent to $2^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$. Based on the results, by reflecting the results of this experiment as a difference in colour recognition, which may occur when the input image is converted from a large-sized screen to a mobile-sized screen, power efficiency, one of the biggest issues, can be reflected in mobile devices and may contribute to effective three-dimensional image reproduction and image quality in 3-D or hologram as well as 2-D images.

  • This paper propose a 3D point clouds (depth) security technique for digital holographic display service. Image contents encryption is a method to provide only authorized right owners with the original image information by encrypting the entire image or a part of the image. The proposed method detected an edge from a depth and performed quad tree decomposition, and then performed encryption. And encrypts the most significant block among the divided blocks. The encryption effect was evaluated numerically and visually. The experimental results showed that encrypting only 0.43% of the entire data was enough to hide the constants of the original depth. By analyzing the encryption amount and the visual characteristics, we verified a relationship between the threshold for detecting an edge-map. As the threshold for detecting an edge increased, the encryption ratio decreased with respect to the encryption amount.

  • Recently, with increasing demand for flat-panel display product, methods for large area patterning are required. TIR (total internal reflection) holographic photo-lithography isstudied as one of the methods of large area lithography. In conventional TIR holography, light sources for hologram recording and image reconstruction are coherent beams such as laser beams. If the image is reconstructed with an incoherent light source such a UV lamp, the image noise from the coherence of light will be reduced and the UV lamp will be a better light source for large area exposure. We analyzed the effect of spectral bandwidth and angular bandwidth of the light source in image reconstruction and verified image blurring with experiments. For large area patterning which has micro-scale line width, it is expected that TIR holographic photo lithography by UV lamp will become a low-noise and low-priced technique.
