  • The Bavarian town of Regensburg was a library travel destination during the European Enlightenment. With at least 26 collections, the number and variety of its private, governmental, school, and religious libraries rivaled that of much larger cities and figured in the bibliographic travel accounts of Johann Keyssler, Christoph Nicolai, Carl Oelrichs, Filippo Argellati, Georg Zapf, Friedrich Hirsching, Adalbert Blumenschein, and many others. The first-hand descriptions of these repositories are unique primary sources for the study of library history. Having been accessible to researchers largely in published forms, many were designed to serve as bibliographic aids for informing scholars about the locations of specialized subject collections and some individual works. The journals, letters, guidebooks, and texts also reflected the evolving scholarly and scientific nature of their cultural period. Overall, this case study of Regensburg’s libraries illustrates the particular value of contemporary travel literature.

  • Recently, the investigation has been difficult due to the emergence of messengers that encrypt and store data for the purpose of protecting personal information and provide services such as end-to-end encryption with a focus on security. Accordingly, the number of crime cases using security messengers is increasing, but research on data decoding for security messengers is needed. Element security messengers provide end-to-end encryption functions so that only conversation participants can check conversation history, but research on decoding them is insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the instant messenger Element, which provides end-to-end encryption, and propose a plaintext verification of the history of encrypted secure chat rooms using decryption keys stored in the Windows Credential Manager service without user passwords. In addition, we summarize the results of analyzing significant general and secure chat-related artifacts from a digital forensics investigation perspective.

  • This study was conducted to determine the cause and prevalence of occupational skin disease in dental technicians working in Seoul, Korea. and to investigate the relation between these work condition and skin disease of the hand, wrist and forearm. This study was based on the Nordic occupational skin questionnaire(NOSQ), a self-administrated questionnaire which was modified to investigate the dental technician's occupational factors in domestic circumstances. The number was distributed to 500 dental technicians who participated in annual continuing education for dental technicians of the Seoul metropolitan area in April 2006. Of the subjects, 62(30.4%) had eczema and 70(32.9%) had urticaria, as diagnosed. Of the subjects with the symptoms of urticaria, 30 complained of atopic dermatitis, 65 complained of allergic rhinitis, 56 complained of allergic conjunctivitis, and 18 complained of asthma. The group with atopic history had a higher frequency of eczema or urticaria than the group without atopic history. From multiple regression analysis, the group who had a history of atopic dermatitis also had high symptom rates of eczema. The group who had a history of allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis had high symptom rates of urticaria. The urticaria symptom rates were higher in those wearing gloves than those who did not for the type of work.

  • Fermented milk including yogurt, which has a long tradition of thousands of years, was first established in Korea in 1919, and the current market size has grown to over 90 billion dollars. Fermented milk, which began in the early days of liquid yogurt, appeared on the market as spoonable and drinking yogurt. Fermented milk began with research on intestinal health functions and lactobacilli, and gradually developed into various disease prevention studies such as gastrointestinal health, immunity improvement, skin beauty, and prevention of dementia. As a simple meal, it has a nutrient function element, which serves as a meal replacement, and is expanding its range from general foods to special-purpose foods and dietary supplements. Fierce market competition is taking place, and as a result, the domestic fermented milk market is developing through the development of various products for differentiation.

  • As needs for knowledge on Korean history and the attention of the people are rapidly increasing, various smartphone applications for learning the history have appeared during recent years. These applications provide multiple choice questions to users through their own problem banks. But, since these questions are selected from the fixed set of problems that are stored previously, the learning efficiency of users is inevitably decreased when they use the applications repeatedly. In this paper, we present a question generation system named K-History which generates multiple choice questions in an automatic way using the database on the history of Korea. In addition, we also describe the development of the application Korean History Infinite Challenge as a learning application for Korean history. To develop K-History, we classify typical types of learning problems through various problems based on Korean history learning materials, proposing algorithms to generate problems according to the types found. Through the developed techniques, various learning systems can reduce the cost for creating questions, while increasing the learning efficiency of users.

  • Egypt has been known as the light house of science and innovation not only in the Middle East but to the world across ages. Recently, there have been many ups and downs that positioned Egypt in a lower rank that it actually deserves according to its long history. This review entitles the current condition of science, technology and innovation in Egypt and the consequent setting up of best practices of science and technology parks (STPs) experiences. Egypt's science, technology and innovation (STI) system is highly centralized and dominated by the public sector, with R&D happening mostly in state-run universities and research centers supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Scientific Research. R&D indicators state that Egypt ranking is 40th worldwide for the published articles (around 10,000 papers in 2011), while the numbers of issued patents (350 local and 50 international in 2011) is still far beyond expected. STPs in Egypt are addressed in this review by three examples; smart village in Cairo, Investment zone in Borg El-Arab City and Technology Valley in Ismailia. The three models are discussed in details and a suggested road map for developing more STPs is estimated.

  • The history of fermented condiments symbolizes that of the fermentation industry of Korea. Daesang Co. (ex Miwon) initiated the production of MSG using fermentation process in 1960 for the very first time. Ever since, both Daesang and CJ Co. (ex Cheil Jedang) have scrambled for taking up bigger share of Korean market in the field of MSG, IG-coated MSG, and mixed seasoning. It is noteworthy that both companies have powerfully contributed to the development of Korean fermentation industry. Daesang initiated exporting plants to Indonesia in 1973, whereas CJ has become the global leader of the IMP market. Furthermore, both of them have developed such as not only amino acids but also nucleic acid-related substances, organic acids, enzymes etc. with glutamic acid as a platform. It is anticipated that the two will develop the newly diversified edible substances and various kinds of fermented foods along with new food cultures.

  • This paper, searching for the origin of the science and technology policy, is one of the research series on the original form of current S&T policy such as origin, evolution and changing patterns. Without understanding the origin, it is very difficult to understand the evolution and the current change of the policy. To answer this question, 2 kinds of conditions are set: 4 concepts for the origin of a policy and also 4 conditions for the S&T policy itself. As the origin of a policy, 4 concepts are set such as independence, continuance, diffusion and modern state as a policy body. Also as conditions for S&T policy, there may be 4 conditions such as policy targets, policy functions, administration body and the usage of the name of the policy. S&T can be distinguished as science, technology and S&T along it's development path. There, hence, are 2 origins of science and technology policy. French policy for modern science at the late 18th century and the establishment of the Agency of Science and Technology Policy of Japan in 1956 can be pointed out as the origin of the policy. The former can be called as the origin for natural science, and the latter as the origin for S&T. This study implies that new paradigm of S&T policy is a reflection for both the needs of new S&T and social needs. When there were big problems in a society and when there appeared new S&T, they exploited new S&T vigorously. This has been remained as a rememberable monuments in the history of the S&T policy.
