The instantaneous amplitude (IA) based on the higher order differential energy operator is proposed. And its general form for arbitrary order is also proposed. The various definitions of the IA and the instantaneous frequency (IF) estimators are considered. The IA and IF estimators based on the energy operators need less computational cost than the conventional IF and IA estimators exploiting the Hilbert transform. The IF and IA estimators are compared in terms of the frequency and amplitude tracking accuracy of the AM-FM signals. For noiseless case, the IA and IF estimators based on the Teager-Kaiser energy operator show better tracking performance than the IF and IA estimators based on the higher energy operators. However, under noisy condition, the IF and IA estimator based on the higher order energy operators with the order 3 and 4 show better tracking than the Teager-Kaiser energy based estimators. The IF and IA estimators are applied to signals in the various power anomalies to show their usefulness as the disturbance detectors.
In this paper, a higher order shear deformation beam theory is developed for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded beams. The theory account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the beam without using shear correction factors. The material properties of the functionally graded beam are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Based on the present higher-order shear deformation beam theory, the equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Navier type solution method was used to obtain frequencies. Different higher order shear deformation theories and classical beam theories were used in the analysis. A static and free vibration frequency is given for different material properties. The accuracy of the present solutions is verified by comparing the obtained results with the existing solutions.
The present paper deals with the efficient computation of higher-order CFD methods for compressible flow using graphics processing units (GPU). The higher-order CFD methods, such as discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods and correction procedure via reconstruction (CPR) methods, can realize arbitrary higher-order accuracy with compact stencil on unstructured mesh. However, they require much more computational costs compared to the widely used finite volume methods (FVM). Graphics processing unit, consisting of hundreds or thousands small cores, is apt to massive parallel computations of compressible flow based on the higher-order CFD methods and can reduce computational time greatly. Higher-order multi-dimensional limiting process (MLP) is applied for the robust control of numerical oscillations around shock discontinuity and implemented efficiently on GPU. The program is written and optimized in CUDA library offered from NVIDIA. The whole algorithms are implemented to guarantee accurate and efficient computations for parallel programming on shared-memory model of GPU. The extensive numerical experiments validates that the GPU successfully accelerates computing compressible flow using higher-order method.
In the present study, a spline finite strip with higher-order shear deformation is formulated for the stability and free vibration analysis of composite plates. The analysis is conducted based on Reddy's third-order shear deformation theory, Touratier's "Sine" model, Afaq's exponential model and Cho's higher-order zigzag laminate theory. Consequently, the shear correction coefficients are not required in the analysis, and an improved accuracy for thick laminates is achieved. The numerical results, based on different shear deformation theories, are presented in comparison with the three-dimensional elasticity solutions. The effects of length-to-thickness ratio, fibre orientation, and boundary conditions on the critical buckling loads and natural frequencies are investigated through numerical examples.

According to the development of tool material and the improvement of machinability of cutting material like aluminium alloy, the higher spindle speed is needed. However, the higher speed causes the heat generation of bearings, the deformation of spindle unit parts, and the rotational accuracy of spindle to be worse. Therefore, it is essential to analyze and control the heat generation and the thermal behavior of spindle unit in order to have higher speed and better rotational accuracy. This paper shows the analogy between the analyzation of heat generation and thermal behavior of high speed spindle system by finite element method and the test results of actual temperature rise through running test, and shows the necessity of cooling the spindle and inner ring side of bearings for the thermal balance of high speed spindle system.

The fundamental frequency of the voiced speech is estimated using the instantaneous frequency based on the symmetric higher order differential energy operator. The instantaneous frequency based on the symmetric higher order energy operator shows better frequency estimation result since it is aligned to the time instance of the signal. The speech is pre-processed by a lowpass filter to remove higher frequency components. Then, it is processed by the instantaneous frequency to obtain the fundamental frequency estimates. The symmetric higher order energy operator has been used as an indicator to determine the voiced/unvoiced speech. The fundamental frequency estimates are further processed by a moving average filter to obtain the monotonically changed estimates. The obtained fundamental frequency estimates have been compared with the spectrogram of the speech to confirm its accuracy.
The implicit discontinuous Galerkin method for the two-dimensional Euler equations was developed on unstructured triangular meshes, which can achieve higher-order accuracy by wing hierachical basis functions based on Legendre polynomials. Numerical tests were conducted to estimate the convergence order of numerical solutions to the Ringleb flow and the supersonic vortex flow for which analytic solutions are available. And, the flows around a circle and a NACA0012 airfoil was also numerically simulated. Numerical results show that the implicit discontinuous Galerkin methods with higher-order representation of curved solid boundaries can be an efficient higher-order method to obtain very accurate numerical solutions on unstructured meshes.
The performance of speech recognition system is degraded by the mismatch between training and test environments. Many studies have been presented to compensate for noise components in the cepstral domain. Recently, higher order cepstral moment normalization method has been introduced to improve recognition accuracy. In this paper, we present real-time high order moment normalization method with post-processing smoothing filter to reduce the parameter estimation error in higher order moment computation. In experiments using Aurora2 database, we obtained error rate reduction of 44.7% with proposed algorithm in comparison with baseline system.
The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order model should be considered to widen the frequency range. Mode matching method has been developed to consider higher order modes, but very complicated algebra should be used. Munjal suggested a numerical collocation method, which can overcome the shortcomings of mode matching method, using the compatibility conditions for acoustic pressure and particle velocity at the junctions of area discontinuities. But the restriction of Munjal's method is that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In this paper, the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method. The predictions by this method was also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the modified method presented here.

The purpose of this study is to increase efficiency and accuracy in operation of CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) through comparing accuracy in CPR between group with verbal order and group with non-verbal order given carrying out CPR. This study performed convenience sampling targeting 62 students(31 people for group with non-verbal order, 31 people for group with verbal order) at university where is located in G Province. Survey period was carried out from October 7, 2010 to October 21. Analytical method was made by using SPSS WIN(Version 12.0). As a result of research, the group with non-verbal order was indicated to be higher in accuracy of CPR on artificial respiration and chest compression in several spheres than the group with verbal order. Based on this, the non-verbal order method needs to try to be applied to performing education and skills of CPR in the future. And, even a continuous research is needed on effectiveness between verbal order method and non-verbal order method in an emergency situation.
