Quench characteristics of stainless steel laminated DyBCO coated conductor (스테인레스강 라미네이션된 DyBCO 초전도 선재의 퀜치 특성)

  • As high temperature superconductor applications became a reality due to increase in coated conductor performance, it is important to understand their stability behavior to design safe electrical power systems. Coated conductors can be stabilized with different metals and alloys for different types of application, to yield excellent electrical, thermal and mechanical performance. We have experimentally studied the dependence of quench and recovery characteristics of stainless steel stabilized coated conductors on the amplitude of current and duration time. Stability test of 3cm long sample were performed in a liquid nitrogen bath cooling condition by applying a short period over current pulses for 50 and 100ms, with amplitude up to ~6 times the critical current. The transport current that flows before and after the current pulse was fixed at about ~80-85% critical current. We analyzed the quench and recovery phenomena of the test sample using the current voltage characteristic.

  • Nowadays, one of the serious problems in KEPCO system is the larger fault current than the SCC(Short Circuit Capacity) of circuit breaker. There are many alternatives to reduce the increased fault current such as isolations of bus ties, enhancement of SCC of circuit breaker, applications of HVDC-BTB(Back to Back) and FCL(fault current limiter). However, these alternatives have some drawbacks in viewpoints of system stability and cost. As the superconductivity technology has been developed, the HTS-FCL(High Temperature Superconductor-Fault Current Limiter) can be one of the attractive alternatives to solve the fault current problem. Under this background, this paper presents the EMTDC model for resistive type HTS-FCL considering the nonlinear characteristic of final resistance value when quenching Phenomena occur.

  • It is very important to select suspension solution for forming electrophoretic deposited YBCO thick film, because it is heavily affected to its superconducting properties. In this paper, high-temperature superconductor films of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$ were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) from alcohol-based suspension such as iso-propanol, iso-butanol, and their mixture. For the formation of YBCO dense and adherent coating on a silver wire by EPD, 1% PEG(1000) 2 $m\ell$, as a additive for making their surface crack-free, was used for electrophoresis. As a results, the cracks were considerably decreased and the superconducting critical current density (J$_{c}$) without/with PEG was 1200 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 2020 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$, which films deposited in mix ism-propanol and iso-butanol suspension.ion.

  • Effects of the second sintering process on the superconducting characteristics of the (Bi, Pb)SrCaCuO system have been studied. It was found that the optimal calcining temperature of mixed powder may be proper to 820$^{\circ}C$ and the optimal sintering temperture was determined on 845$^{\circ}C$. The 2212 phases transitioned the 2223 phasses during the sintring process and zero resistance was attained at 108 K for the samples sintered for 264 hr. The 2223 phases changed into the 2212 phases and nonsuperconducting phases by the second grinding process. And the 2223 phases did not recover easily by the second sintering process.

  • In this study, a new sintered specimens of Y$\_$1-x/Sm$\_$x/Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$\_$y/ is composed by substituting Sm for a part of Y in the YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$\_$y/ high Tc superconductor, in order to study of making (Y$.$Sm)-Ba-Cu-O system sintered specimens and their characteristics. An their change affected on superconductivity and their characteristics are studied by changing the x range of the composition rate. The resistances of electrical characteristics under the conditions of the composition and the temperature are measured by using Ac four probe method in the procedure of this experiments.   • Ozone is useful oxidizing gas for the fabrication of oxide thin films. Accordingly researching on oxidizing gas is required. In order to obtain high quality oxide thin films, higher ozone concentration is necessary. In this paper oxidation property was evaluated relation between oxide gas pressure and inverse temperature(CuO reaction). The obtained condition was formulated by the fabrication of Cu metal thin film by co-deposition using the Ion Beam Sputtering method. Because the CuO phase peak appeared at the XRD evaluation of the CuO thin film using ozone gas, this study has succeeded in the fabrication of the CuO phase at $825^{\circ}C$.

  • Maximum short circuit current of modern power system is becoming so large that the current should transmission capability. Although there are various kinds of method to solve this, approached from super conductivity Fault Current Limiter application viewpoint among them. High Temperature Superconductor-Fault Current Limiter(HTS-FCL) development is progressing according to HTS technology development, and system application is tried. For actual system application of such super conductivity FCL, an efficient method to find FCL locations suitable for reduction of short circuit currents of more than one fault location is developed.

  • High temperature superconductor (HTS) tapes are now commercially available for practical applications to apply various purposes. However HTS tapes show different electrical and mechanical characteristics, according to the manufacturers who are trying to apply various fabrication processes and treatments. From the viewpoint of an application it is very important to investigate the properties of HTS tapes under mechanical stress because the tapes will be wound with twisting and tension in applications such as magnets and cables. Thus, we studied characteristics of HTS tapes and measure critical current under bending, considering of a mechanical conditions. A description of some typical results will be presented with discussions.

  • 임계온도가 높아 외부교란에 대하여 대단히 안정한 장점을 지닌 고온초전도체를 이용하여 600 kJ급의 SMES (Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage)용 마그네트를 개발하고 있으며, 이의 설계 제작에 선행하여 선정된 4-ply도체에 대한 N-value 및 임계전류 특성을 상이한 외부자장의 크기 및 방향에 대하여 조사하였다. 그 주요 결과를 요약하면 4-ply도체의 측정된 N-value는 이의 정의에 사용된 전계영역의 범위에 따라 매우 상이하며, 또한 경사자장 ($\theta=30^{\circ}$)에 대하여 측정된 임계전류는 4-ply도체 면에 수직한 자장성분으로부터 계산된 임계전류와 비교적 잘 일치함을 알 수 있다.

  • 다수본의 Bi-2223테이프로 구성되는 초전도전력케이블에서 발생되는 교류손실은 케이블의 효율을 저하시킬 뿐만 아니라 냉동기비용 증가로 인한 기존 케이블과의 가격경쟁에서 경제성을 저하시키는 주된 요인으로 작용하기 때문에 이의 상용화에 앞서 교류손실에 대한 정확한 규명이 되어야 한다. 그러나 다수본으로 구성되는 고온초전도전력케이블의 교류손실을 올바르게 평가하는 것은 테이프의 상이한 임계전류, 전압리드의 배열, 전류분포의 불균일성 및 인접한 테이프에 흐르는 전류위상 상이 등 복잡한 영향인자 때문에 매우 난해하다. 이와 같은 교류손실 평가와 관련된 복잡한 문제들을 규명하기 위해 다수본의 고온초전도도체 샘플을 제작하였으며 그 손실 특성을 실험적으로 조사 및 검토 하였다. 그 결과 다수본 고온초전도도체의 측정된 교류손실은 Monoblock모델 이론값 및 다각형모델에 근거한 수치해석 결과와도 상이함을 알 수 있다.
