휴대인터넷 서비스 제공을 위한 IEEE 802.16 표준화 동향

  • 시속 60 km/hour의 시내 주행 속도로 이동하면서도 언제 어디서나 인터넷 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 휴대인터넷 서비스는 정보통신부 IT839 전략의 일환으로 추진되고 있다. 휴대인터넷 서비스는 2003년부터 HPi (High-speed Portable Internet) 라는 프로젝트 명으로 한국전자통신연구원, 주요 제조업체 및 사업자를 중심으로 규격 및 시스템이 개발되고 있으며 운용 주파수 대역은 2300$\~$2400 MHz of고 TDD (Time Division Duplex), OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) 방식을 사용한다. 휴대인터넷과 관련된 표준화 기구로는 IEEE 802.16 및 TTA PG302가 있다. 휴대인터넷 서비스 제공을 위한 국내 규격은 IEEE 802.16 표준과의 호환성이 완벽하게 유지되어야 한다. IEEE 802.16 표준은 성격상 프로파일 설정에 따라 다양한 형태의 시스템 형상이 가능하다. 따라서 TTA PG302에서 규정되는 표준은 IEEE 802.16 표준의 완전한 부분집합으로 정의되고 PG302 표준화 활동은 규격 작업과 더불어 시스템 형상 및 성능 검증을 위한 프로파일 및 컨포먼스 테스트를 위한 작업이 포함된다. 본고에서는 휴대인터넷과 관련된 IEEE 802.16 표준화 동향을 소개하고 향후 방향을 전망해 본다.

  • As increasing the Internet traffic, many researches on access network are reported for end-to-end highspeed broadband network, where E-PON (Ethernet-Passive Optical Network) is one of reasonable candidates for the network with respect to cost and bandwidth utilization. For the high-speed access network, E-PON needs an efficient bandwidth allocation method. This paper describes a WFBA (Water-Filling Bandwidth Allocation) algorithm for the efficient bandwidth allocation with various simulation test. Based upon the simulation test, we suggest several ways to improve performance of E-PON.

  • A Bloom filter is a space-efficient data structure popularly applied in many network algorithms. This paper proposes a vectored Bloom filter to provide a high-speed Internet protocol (IP) address lookup. While each hash index for a Bloom filter indicates one bit, which is used to identify the membership of the input, each index of the proposed vectored Bloom filter indicates a vector which is used to represent the membership and the output port for the input. Hence the proposed Bloom filter can complete the IP address lookup without accessing an off-chip hash table for most cases. Simulation results show that with a reasonable sized Bloom filter that can be stored using an on-chip memory, an IP address lookup can be performed with less than 0.0003 off-chip accesses on average in our proposed architecture.

  • ATM based MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) is discussed for its provisioning QOS commitment capabilities, Traffic engineering and smooth migration for BcN in Korea. At this time, due to the comprehensive nature of ATM protocol, ATM has been adapted as the backbone system for carrying Internet traffic[1,2,3,4]. This paper presents preventive congestion control mechanisms for detecting HTR(Hard-To-Reach) LSP(Label Switched Path) in ATM based MPLS systems. In particular, we have introduced a HTR LSP detection method using network signaling information in an ATM layer. MPLS related studies can cover LSP failures in a physical layer fault, it can not impact network congestion status. Here we will present the research results for introducing HTR LSP detection methods and control mechanisms and this mechanism can be implementing as SOC for high speed processing a packet header. We concluded that it showed faster congestion avoidance abilities with a more reduced system load and maximized the efficiency of network resources by restricting ineffective machine attempts.

Highspeed Packet Processing for DiffServ-over-MPLS TE on Network Processor

  • The paper proposes an implementation architecture of DiffServ-over-MPLS traffic engineering (TE) on Intel IXP2400 network processor using Intel IXA SDK 4.0 Framework. Program architecture and functions are described. Also fast and scalable range-match classification scheme is proposed for DiffServ-over-MPLS TE that has been integrated with functional blocks from Intel Microblocks library. Performance test shows that application can process packets at approximate data rate of 3.5 Gbps. The proposed implementation architecture of DiffServ-over-MPLS TE on Network processor can provide guaranteed QoS on high-speed next generation Internet, while being flexible and easily modifiable.

  • Mobile WiMAX technology is the key solution for providing high speed internet services at anytime and anywhere in mobile environments as 3.5th wireless technology between 3rd generation and 4th generation wireless technology, and the service demands shall be rapidly increased in future some years. This paper analyzed the QoS performance of Mobile WiMAX technology recommended by IEEE 802.16e specification under the restricted simulation conditions and environments. The major metrics for analyzing QoS performance of Mobile WiMAX are 1) total packet drop rates; 2) transmission / receive packet sizes; 3) end to end delay in node 2; 4) packet drop rate by mobile terminal mobility.

  • In this paper, we present hybrid ARQ techniques to improve the throughput performance in high speed packet transmission such as Internet or multimedia services in Hospital. In order to evaluate the performance of the three different types of hybrid ARQ schemes, systemized link level simulations based on WWW traffic model are considered. In this paper, we also consider the simulated performance for an average link throughput and a normalized packet delay to compare the hybrid ARQ with link adaptation scheme in GPRS.

  • 본 논문은 고속열차와 같은 고속 이동체에서 위성무선연동 전송기술을 이용하여 지상무선망과 동일한 수준의 인터넷 서비스를 제공하기 위한 이동형 위성 인터넷 접속기술에 관한 것이다. 이러한 서비스 제공을 위해서는 터널이나 역사(Railway Station)와 같은 N-LOS 환경에 대한 대처기술이 필요하며, LOS 환경에서도 철로상에 설치되어 있는 Electronic Power Post나 Power Bridge 등으로 인한 주기적이고 짧은 시간동안의 신호열화 현상이나 고속 이동에 따른 도플러 현상에 대한 극복기술이 필요하다. 이러한 기술들이 집약된 본 시스템을 소개한다.

  • Recently WiBro network is installed for high speed wireless internet service by telecommunication service provider, however WiBro service is not provided in the region of mountain or difficult region to install network infra. Fixed repeater is used to resolve those shadow area problem in current WiBro network. This paper study introducing Ad-hoc based multi-hop relay instead of using fixed repeater in order to resolve those shadow area problem. Cost down of fixed repeater and active network expansion is possible to resolve shadow area problem by introducing multi-hop relay technology.
