Application of Acrylic Resins Containing Acetoacetoxy Group and 80% Solid Contents to High-Solid Coatings (아세토아세톡시기 함유 80% 고형분인 아크릴수지의 하이솔리드 도료에의 적용)

  • In order to prepare high-solid coatings, first acrylic resins (HSAs) which contain 80% solid were synthesized, and then the prepared resins were cured with isocyanate at room temperature. In the synthesis of HSAs, viscosity, number average molecular weight $(M_n)$ and conversion were $1372{\sim}2700$ cps, $1520{\sim}1650$ and $83{\sim}87%$, respectively. Among the four kinds of initiators used, tert-amylperoxy-2-ethyl hexanoate was the most proper one in the synthesis of HSAs. With increasing $T_g$ values, viscosity increased rapidly and molecular weight increased slowly. As a result of the examination of coated films, it was found that $60^{\circ}$ specular gloss, impact resistance, heat resistance and cross-hatch adhesion were good, and pencil hardness, drying time and pot life were poor.

Fracture behavior of Thixoformed 357-T5 Semi-solid Al alloys (반응고 357-T5 합금의 파괴 특성)

  • The effects of microstructural features on the fracture behaviors, including impact, high-cycle fatigue, fatigue and crack propagation, of thixoformed 357-T5 (Al-7%Si-0.6%Mg) alloy were examined. The resistance to impact and high-cycle fatigueof thixoformed 357-T5 tended to improve greatly with increasing solid volume fraction. An almost three-fold increase in impact energy value was, for example, observed with increasing solid volume fraction from 59 to 70%. The improvement in both impact and fatigue properties of thixoformed 357-75 with increasing solid volume fraction in the present study appeared to be related to the magnitude of stress concentration at the interface between primary and eutectic phase, by which the fracture process was largely influenced. Based on the fractographic and micrographic observations, the mechanism associated with the beneficial effect of high solid volume fraction in thixoformed 357-T5 alloy was discussed.

  • Piers are the main lateral force-resisting members of high-speed railway (HSR) bridges used in China and are characterized by low axial load ratios, low longitudinal reinforcement ratios, low stirrup ratios, and high shear span ratios. It is well known that flexural, flexural-shear, and shear failures of piers may occur during an earthquake. In this study, a new shear strength model was developed to simulate the seismic failure of HSR solid piers accurately. First, low cyclic-loading test data of solid piers obtained in recent years were collected to set up a database for model verification. Second, based on the test database, the applicability of existing shear strength models was evaluated. Finally, a new shear strength model for HSR solid piers with round-ended cross-sections was derived based on the truss model and ultimate equilibrium theory. In comparison with existing models, it was demonstrated that the proposed model could be used to predict the shear strength of HSR piers more accurately.

Efficient cell design and fabrication of concentration-gradient composite electrodes for high-power and high-energy-density all-solid-state batteries

  • All-solid-state batteries are promising energy storage devices in which high-energy-density and superior safety can be obtained by efficient cell design and the use of nonflammable solid electrolytes, respectively. This paper presents a systematic study of experimental factors that affect the electrochemical performance of all-solid-state batteries. The morphological changes in composite electrodes fabricated using different mixing speeds are carefully observed, and the corresponding electrochemical performances are evaluated in symmetric cell and half-cell configurations. We also investigate the effect of the composite electrode thickness at different charge/discharge rates for the realization of all-solid-state batteries with high-energy-density. The results of this investigation confirm a consistent relationship between the cell capacity and the ionic resistance within the composite electrodes. Finally, a concentration-gradient composite electrode design is presented for enhanced power density in thick composite electrodes; it provides a promising route to improving the cell performance simply by composite electrode design.

  • In this paper, it is presented the result of design and fabrication for C-band solid state high power amplifier unit and components using in search radar. The solid state power amplifier(SSPA) assembly was fabricated using GaN(Gallium Nitride), which is semiconductor device, and the transmit signal output power of the solid state high power amplifier unit is generated by combining the transmit signal power of the solid state power amplifier configured in parallel through a design and fabricated waveguide type transmit signal combine assembler. Designed solid state high power amplifier unit demonstrated C-band 500 MHz bandwidth, maximum 10.5% duty cycle, transmit pulse width from $0.0{\mu}s{\sim}000{\mu}s$, and transmit signal power is 44.98 kW(76.53 dBm).

An Analysis on Surge Voltage Transfer Phenomena of Transformers by Minor Network (Minor netowrk에 의한 변압기의 충격전압파의 이행현상해석)

  • Secondary-side transfer phenomena of primary-side surge voltage in concentric-cylindrical transformers of a high turn-ratio still present a problem in transformer insulation design even in the case of a neutral solid-grounding type. The conventional methods of analyzing them so far are much complicated for practical applications. Therefore, this paper describes a new approach to the analysis of secondary-side transfer phenomena of surge in concentric-cylindrical transformers of high turn-ratio and solid-grounding type. This generalized approach is thought to be more simple with the use of minor network concepts than the conventional one by major network only. The result shows that the secondary-side transfer phenomena of surge voltage could not be neglected even in concentric-cylindrical transformer of high turn-ratio and solid-grounding type, and will be satisfactorily applicable to the design of neutral-solid-grounding type transformers.

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Designs, Materials, and Applications

  • The Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is an electrochemical device to convert chemical energy of a fuel into electricity at temperatures from about 600 to $1000^{\circ}C$. The SOFC offers certain advantages over lower temperature fuel cells, notably its ability to use CO as a fuel rather than being poisoned by it, and high grade exhaust heat for combined heat and power, or combined cycle gas turbine applications. This paper reviews the operating principle, materials for different cell and stack components, cell designs, and applications of SOFCs. Among all designs of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), the most progress has been achieved with the tubular design. However, the electrical resistance of tubular SOFCs is high, and specific power output $(W/cm^2)$ and volumetric power density $(W/cm^3)$ low. Planar SOFCs, in contrast, are capable of achieving very high power densities.

  • Digitalization in electronic system is required the capacitor which have a large capacitance with small size, low impedance at high frequency, and high reliability. The fabrication and its properties of aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor are investigated. Employing conduction polymer film such as, polypyrrole as solid electroylte, solid type aluminum electrolytic capacitors were made. The surface of insulationg oxide is covered with conducting polymer layer prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization. Thereafter this conducting layer is covered with conducting polymer prepared by electrochemical polymerization. The dielectric properties of these capacitors were also measured and discussed. Regarding on frequency characteristics of the trial made capacitor, impedance and ESR at high frequency is lower than those of the stacked type film capacitor. It is alo confirmed that temperature coefficient of capacitance and dissipation factor of the capacitor are lower than those of film capacitor and liquid type aluminum electrolytic capacitor.

  • Accurate description of starting transient history allows and justifies the use of small margin of safety for the engine parts, resulting in high motor mass ratio in addition to satisfying the control and guidance requirements of the vehicle. Studies have been carried out for the prediction and reduction of ignition peak and pressure-rise rate during the starting transient of solid rocket motors. Numerical studies have been carried out using a two dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. It has been inferred through the parametric studies that, in the case of solid rocket motors with uniform port, high ignition peak is observed at high spread rate and low pressure-rise rate. In the case of the port with sudden expansion configuration, high ignition peak is observed at relatively high average spread rate and high-pressure rise rate. These studies are expected to aid the designer in reducing the ignition peak by altering the propellant properties or igniter characteristics without sacrificing the motor performance.
