  • According to the recent trends in the construction business have been actively booming both overseas plant orders and high-rise buildings orders. In addition high-rise building projects have being promoted or is actually under construction in Korea. Frame structure review which is the most consuming period on high-rise building is essential on that project. In this study looks for the currently form system and compares to those large system used in high-rise buildings.

  • This paper deals with an approach to the reduction of potential rise according to the buried depth of structure. In order to analyze the surface potential rise of structure, an electrolytic tank which simulates the semi-infinite earth has been used. The potential rise has been measured and analyzed for types of structure using an electrolytic tank experimental apparatus in real time. The structure models were designed through reducing real buildings and fabricated with two types on a scale of one-one hundred sixty When a test current flowed through structure models, the potential rise of outline frame type(structure model A) was more high than that of electric cage type(structure model B). The distributions of surface potential rise are dependent on the buried depth of structure model.

  • To rationally secure and maintain the safety and serviceability of a high-rise building, monitoring of structural responses of members is necessary. As such health monitoring of large-scale building structures has received growing attention by researchers in recent years. However, due to a very large number of members complexity of structural responses of a high-rise building structure, practical difficulties exist in selection of structural members to be sensored for assessment of structural safety of a structure. In this paper, a selection technique for active members for safety monitoring of a high-rise building based on displacement participation factor and strain energy density of a member is investigated.

  • Since atypical high-rise buildings are vulnerable to gravity loads and seismic loads, various structural systems must be applied to ensure the stability of the structure. In this study, the authors selected a 60-story twisted-shaped structure among atypical high-rise structures as an analytical model to investigate its structural behavior concerning the outrigger system. The structural analyses were performed varying the number of installed layers and the arrangement of the outrigger system, as well as the placement of the mega column, as design variables. The analysis revealed that the most effective position for the outrigger was 0.455H from the top layer, consistent with previous studies. Additionally, connecting outriggers and mega columns significantly reduced the displacement response of the model. From an economic standpoint, it is deemed efficient to connect and install outriggers and mega columns at the structure's ends.

  • In this paper, the displacement response to seismic loads was analyzed after installing TMD in spatial structures and high-rise buildings. In the case of a spatial structures, since it exhibits complex dynamic behavior under the influence of various vibration modes, it is not possible to effectively control the seismic response by installing only one TMD, unlike ordinary structures. Therefore, after installing eight TMDs in the structure, the correlation between displacement response and mass ratio was examined while changing the mass. The TMD must be designed to have the same frequency as the structure frequency so that the maximum response reduction effect can be exhibited. It can be confirmed that the most important variable is to select the optimal TMD mass in order to install the TMD on the structure and secure excellent control performance against the earthquake load. As a result of analyzing the TMD mass ratio, in the case of high-rise buildings, a mass ratio of 0.4% to 0.6% is preferable. In spatial structures, it is desirable to select a mass ratio of 0.1% to 0.2%. Because this study is based on the theoretical study based on numerical analysis, in order to design a TMD for a real structure, it is necessary to select within a range that does not affect the safety of the structure.

  • Due to recent trends of the atypical plan shapes and the zoning construction in high-rise buildings, the building stability under construction is arising as an important issue for design and construction plan. To ensure the stability under construction, the differential column shortening and the lateral movements with unbalanced distributions of self-weight of structure members and the load flows before completion of member connections and lateral load resisting system should be checked by construction sequence analysis. This paper presents the scheme of zone-based construction sequence analysis, to check the stability of high-rise building under construction. This scheme is applied to the construction sequence analysis for real high-rise building under construction.

  • 3D simulations based on an impinging jet were carried out to investigate the flow field of a steady downburst and its effects on a high-rise building by applying the SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model. The vertical profile of radial wind speed obtained from the simulation was compared with experimental data and empirical models in order to validate the accuracy of the present numerical method. Then wind profiles and the influence of jet velocity and jet height were investigated. Focusing on a high-rise building, the flow structures around the building, pressure distributions on the building surfaces and aerodynamic forces were analyzed in order to enhance the understanding of wind load characteristics on a high-rise building immersed in a downburst.

  • The present study dictates the behavior of shear wall under a seismic event in slender high rise buildings, and studies the effect of height, location and distribution of shear wall in slender high rise building with and without boundary elements induced by the effect of an earthquake. Shear walls are located at the sides of the building, to counter the earthquake forces. This study is carried out in a 12 storeys building using SAP2000 software. The obtained results disclose that the behavior of the structure is definitely affected by the height and location of shear walls in slender high rise building. The stresses are concentrated at the limit between the shear wall region and the upper non shear wall especially for shear walls without columns. Displacements are doubled between the shear wall region and the upper non shear wall especially for shear walls without columns.

  • Recently the construction of high-rise hybrid type building is progressively increased as the social demands. It is significantly important factors such as economy, the safety of structure, and the flexibility of internal space. Therefore new hybrid structural system, using slim flat plate system, is also required to be attained the reduction of story height, the flexibility and efficient use of space. The most suitable structural system is ,with the economy and flexibility, flat plate system in high-rise hybrid type building. But it was focused in the seismic performance for high performance flat plate system in high-rise hybrid type building. Therefore, in the study, to develop the new flat-plate system with high ductile, durable, good performance for the applications. It was evaluated the seismic performance in the critical region of slab-column connection. And then high performance flat plate system, designed by the economy and safety, was developed as a new technique in the application of high-rise hybrid type building.

  • The "China Zun" tower in Beijing will rise to 528 meters in height and will be the tallest building in Beijing once built. Inspired by an ancient Chinese vessel, the "Zun", the plan dimensions reduce gradually from the bottom of the tower to the waist and then expand again as it rises to form an aesthetically beautiful and unique geometry. To satisfy the structural requirement for seismic and wind resistance, the structure is a dual system composed of a perimeter mega structure made of composite mega columns, mega braces, and belt trusses, and a reinforced-concrete core with steel plate-embedded walls. Advanced parametric design technology is applied to find the most efficient outer-perimeter structure system. The seismic design basically follows a mixed empirical and performance-based methodology that was verified by a shaking table test and other specimen lab tests. The tower is now half-way through its construction.
