In general, a high tension on the anchor and chain is placed when a ship at anchor is subjected to heavy weather. Mariners have to pay attention to whether dragging anchor occurs to keep the safety of the ship at anchorage since it is difficult to maintain the stable motion of ship and it causes collisions with other ships nearby. In this paper, the ship motion against the external forces was shown to obtain the fundamental data about characteristic of holding power due to nature of seabed at anchor, so practical trials were carried out in rocky area and muddy area using a trial ship around coastal area of South Korea. In muddy seabed, holding power showed reasonable tension values depending on the distance from anchor position of continuing swing motions of a ship corresponding to wind force. Meanwhile in rocky seabed, tension values on the chain appeared very high occasionally regardless of the distance from the anchor position and seemed to exceed its holding power to be the breaking strain of the chain although weather was not in a severe condition. Therefore, some of the cables laid on the seabed were presumed to be caught in a crack on the rock. It is assumed that even a small amount of external force may cause the chain to break in a moment in rocky seabed. Additionally, wind and current forces had a somewhat contradictory effect on holding power of the ship between them.
Post-tensioning (PT) tendons are commonly used for the assembly of modularized concrete members, and tension is applied to the tendons during construction to facilitate the integrated behavior of the members. However, the tension in a PT tendon decreases over time due to steel corrosion and concrete creep, and consequently, the stress on the anchor head that secures the PT tendon also diminishes. This study proposes an automatic detection system to identify tension reduction in a PT tendon using pulsed-eddy-current (PEC) measurement. An eddy-current sensor is installed on the surface of the steel anchor head. The sensor creates a pulsed excitation to the driving coil and measures the resulting PEC response using the pick-up coil. The basic premise is that the tension reduction of a PT tendon results in stress reduction on the anchor head surface and a change in the PEC intensity measured by the pick-up coil. Thus, PEC measurement is used to detect the reduction of the anchor head stress and consequently the reduction of the PT tendon force below a certain threshold value. The advantages of the proposed PEC-based tension-reduction-detection (PTRD) system are (1) a low-cost (< $ 30), low-power (< 2 Watts) sensor, (2) a short inspection time (< 10 seconds), (3) high reliability and (4) the potential for embedded sensing. A 3.3 m long full-scale monostrand PT tendon was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed PTRD system. The PT tendon was tensioned to 180 kN using a custom universal tensile machine, and the tension was decreased to 0 kN at 20 kN intervals. At each tension, the PEC responses were measured, and tension reduction was successfully detected.
The compression anchor is characterized by decrement of progressive failure, simple site work, economy and durability compared with tension anchor. In this paper, compression anchor is analysed through the laboratory element tests. The formula to be estimate the grout strength in fixed part of compression anchor and the effective reinforcement method for several types of soil were suggested. The following conclusions were made from this study : (1) A formula, which is able to calculate the grout strength in the fixed part of the compression anchor, is suggested. (2) The strength increment ratios( $R_{si}$) are 100%, 132%, 147%, 217% according to the reinforcement method of grout. The reinforcement method is Non, Outside spiral, Inside-Outside spiral, Steel pipe, respectively. (3) The strength increment ratios( $R_{si}$) by reinforcing can be 8.23 times the strength increment effect according to the reinforcement types and ground confining pressure. (4) The steel pipe reinforcement is most effective in decomposed soil while, in the case of hard rock ground, high confining pressure is exerted on the grout, so there is no need to use reinforcements.
Ground anchors can be good solution in large and deep excavation. Anchored supports generally provide larger workspace than strut supports and good performances. The major benefit provided by these anchored systems was the open excavation area created by eliminating horizontal or raked struts, which generally inhibit rapid construction within the site area. In loose soils, however, anchors are sometimes hard to get high pullout anchor capacity, so that the spacing of anchor both horizontally and vertically is frequently controlled, in which the construction costs of anchors are increased. In order to increase anchor capacity, therefore, conceptual introduction of the multi-strand anchor is presented in this paper. Also, this study shows an numerical study of predicting the load transfer of the multi-strand anchor and a beam-column analysis was performed by a Elastic-Plastic beam theory.

As the demand for renewable energy has increased following the worldwide agreement to act against global climate change and disaster, large-scale floating offshore wind systems have become a more viable solution. However, the cost of the whole system is still too high for practical realization. To make the cost of a floating wind system be more economical, a new concept of tension leg platform (TLP) type ocean floating wind system has been developed. To verify the performance of a 5-MW TLP type ocean floating wind power system designed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the FAST simulation developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is used. Further, 1/50 scale model tests have been carried out in the ocean engineering tank of the Research Institute of Medium and Small Shipbuilding, Korea. This paper compares the simulation and ocean engineering tank test results on motion prediction and tension assessment of the TLP anchor.
In order to provide basic data to increase the efficiency and stability of seamanship at anchoring, the characteristics of the hull motion including dragging anchor due to external forces were observed at Mokpo and Jinhae anchorage for the avoidance of the typhoon. As a result, it is necessary to check the embedding motion and holding power of the anchor according to at initial position to decrease dragging anchor. Dragging anchor at anchorage seems to have been easily caused according to discrepancy between embedded anchor flukes and the towing direction due to the change in wind direction, rather than the wind speed. This discrepancy, thus, should be considered when anchoring. This test vessel with a small radius of curvature of the stem is relatively vulnerable to the influence of wind direction and wind speed, so it is easy to cause a decrease in the holding power due to an increase in the rate of turn. When the current speed is greater than or equal to 1 knot, the range of the rate of turn is reduced resulting in a relatively increased holding power. In addition, during the swing, the tension of the chain was high according to the angular velocity change of heading at three-quarters of the swing length rather than the left and right ends.
