Brake system is indispensible functional part to the transportation machines such as railroad cars, and all of industrial machines. It is mechanical element to stop the movement or slow the speed, transforming kinetic energy of motion object into thermal energy through solid friction. According that recently the railroad cars have become high-speed, the technique in braking domain to secure the overall braking effort is making rapid progress. In particular, material development and manufacturing process are so important to secure friction performance, which is the core in braking performance of mechanical brake units. Wear of brake disk could mainly result in the diminishment of its life span due to thermal cracking, so the endurance against high temperature is required. On the other hand, in this case, the problem is that the side wear of pad, relative material is slightly increased because of enlargement of plastic deformation. It is necessary, therefore, to develop a disk material that will be used in the Tilting System mechanical brake units. The purpose of this paper is to make a study prior to developing brake disk of Tilting Train travelling at 200km/h and to propose the component of brake disk. Accordingly, I will conduct sufficient researches on technical documents of brake disk, that are basic documentations, analyze an impact on components, and further, considering braking degree of train, study for the basic proposal on brake disk's component of the train travelling at 200km/h, which has relatively minor influence of heat stress and maintains the friction. In this respect, I would like to investigate friction characteristics between disk and relative friction material via Test on some possible test segments, analyze and propose friction performance, temperature impact and so forth coming from the contact with pad, relative material to demonstrate the friction characteristics.
The secondary hardening and fracture behavior in P/M high speed steels bearing V content of 9 to 10 wt% have been investigated in terms of austenitizing temperature and precipitation behavior. Austenitizing was conducted at 1,100 and $1,175^{\circ}C$ of relatively low and high temperatures. Coarse primary carbides retained after austenitization were mainly V-rich MC type. They give a significant influence on hardeness and toughness, as well as wear resistance. Tempering was performed in the range of $500{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. The peak hardness resulting from the precipitation of the fine MC secondary carbides was observed near 520, irrespective of austenitizing temperature. Aging acceleration(or deceleration) did not occur with increasing austenitizing temperature because it mainly influences contents of V and C of matrix through the dissloution of coarse primary MC containing lots of V and C. The precipitation of secondary MC carbides, which also contain V and C, did not change the aging kinetics itself. In the 10V alloy containing much higher C content, the impact toughness was lower than 9V alloy, because of the larger amount of primary carbide and high hardness.
Recently, Laser surface treatment technologies have been used to improve wear charactenitics and fatigue resistance of metal molding. When the laser beam is irradiated on the surface and laser speed is appropriate, the laser focal position is rapidly heated and the thermal energy of surface penetrates the material after irradiation, finally imbuing it with a new mechanical characteristic by the process of self-quenching. This research estimates the material characteristic after efficient and functional surface treatment using HPDL, which is more efficient than the existing CW Nd:YAG laser heat source. To estimate this, microstructural changes and hardness characteristics of three parts (the surface treatment part, heat affect zone, and parental material) are observed with the change of laser beam speed and surface temperature. Moreover, the depth of the hardened area is observed with the change of the laser beam speed and temperature. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum hardness is approximately 788Hv when the heat treatment temperature and the travel speed are $1150^{\circ}$ and 2 mm/sec, respectively.
Friction and wear properties of brake friction materials containing different metal fibers (Al, Cu or Steel fibers) were investigated using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Two different materials(gray iron and Al-MMC)) were used for disks rubbing against the friction materials. Results from ambient temperature tests revealed that the friction material containing Cu fibers sliding against cast iron disk showed a distinct negative ${\mu}$-ν (friction coefficient vs. sliding velocity) relation implying possible stick-slip generation at low speed. The negative ${\mu}$-ν relation was not observed when the Cu-containing friction materials were rubbed against the. Al-MMC counter surface. As applied loads increased, friction materials showed higher friction coefficients comparatively. Friction materials slid against cast iron disks exhibited higher friction coefficients than Al-MMC disks during high temperature tests. On the other hand, high temperature test results suggested that copper fibers in the friction material improved fade resistance and the steel fibers were not compatible with Al-MMC disks showing severe material transfer and erratic friction behavior during sliding at elevated temperatures.

A linear motor has a lot of advantages in comparison with conventional feed mechanisms: high transitional speed, acceleration, high control performance and good positioning at high speed. Through the omission of a power transfer element, the linear motor shows no wear and no backlash, has along lifetime and is easy to assemble. Recently, the two types of linear motors, asynchronous and synchronous linear motors, are often applied to machine tools as a fast feed mechanism. In this paper, a comparison between the two types of linear motors as to power loss and thermal behavior is made. The heat sources of the linear motor-the electrical power loss in the motor and the frictional heat on the linear guidance-are measured and compared. Also, the temperature on the linear motor and machine structure is measured and presented.
Contact material is widely used as electrical parts. Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the disadvantages of Ag-Cd alloy are coarse Cd oxides and harmful metal, Cd. To solve the disadvantages of that, Ag-Sn alloy that has stable and fine Sn oxide at high temperature has been developed. In order to optimize Sn amount that affects the formation of the oxide layer on the surface, we worked for the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. We have shown that the optimized Sn amount for high hardness is 7.09 wt%Sn. Surface oxide layer forms when Sn amount is over 9.45 wt%. The size of Sn oxide is 20 nm.
The characteristic of interface layer and the effect of bias voltage on the microstructure of c-BN films were studied in the microwave plasma hot filament C.V.D process. c-BN films were deposited on a high speed steel(SKH-51) substrate by hot filament CVD technique assisted with a microwave plasma to develop a high performance of resistance coating tool. c-BN films were obtained at a gas pressure of 20 Torr, vias voltage of 300 V and substrate temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ in $B_2H_6-NH_3-H_2$ gas system. It was found that a thin layer of hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) phase exists at the interface between c-BN layer and substrate.
Spray casting of hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been reported to provide distinct advantages over ingot metallurgy (IM) or rapid solidification/powder metallurgy (RS/PM) process in terms of microstructure refinement. Hypereutectic Al-Si based alloys have been regarded attractive for automotive and aerospace application, due to high specific strength, good wear resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high thermal stability, and good creep resistance. In this study, hypereutectic Al-25Si-2.0Cu-1.0Mg alloy was prepared by OSPREY spray casting process. High temperature deformation behavior of the hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been investigated by applying the internal variable theory proposed by Chang et al. The change of strain rate sensitivity and Creep transition were analyzed by using the load relaxation test and constant creep test.
Generally, space structures are subjected to severe situations, such as, sublimation, strong evaporation of lubricants, thermal stresses, high temperature gradients, irradiation, impacts by microscopic meteorites, and other factors. Recent]y, various kinds of coatings are applied to the parts under heavy contact stresses, in order to insure long wear-free lives and/or reduce friction coefficients. In space structures, molybdenum disulfide is using frequently. Moreover TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE(Poly Tetra Fluor Ethylene) are introduced recently for space structure. In this part we are going to apply the partial model method, developed in reference[11] to analyze part with coated layer. In referencer[l1], we compute the reasonable size of partial model and aspect ratio. Using these data, we analyze the structures coated with TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE under contact load, temperature and crack model . Beside, we consider the stress analysis under time dependent load and transient thermal effect.
