  • Metallic sintered brake pads are often applied to mid/high speed train due to their high strength and thermal characteristics. Imbalance contact between discs and pads can greatly influence the life span, one sided wear, discs attack/crack and threat the safety of the train during operation. In this research, we analyzed pressure/temperature distribution between brake pads and disks. Analyzed data had been verified and modified to conduct further tests of flexible brake pads with small/full-scale dynamo test. Flexible brake pads were installed to high speed train to conduct further tests to identify the differences between rigid brake pads and flexible brake pads. In result, Flexible brake pads showed outstanding disk thermal stability, one sided wear, noise and wear rate than rigid brake pad.

  • Modified inert gas condensation method was used to produce the nanocluster composites of $CuO/CeO_2$. High-resolution TEM, SEM and catalytic measurements have been used to characterize the samples and study the synergistic effect between the CuO phase and $CeO_2$(ceria) support. By varying the He pressure, the heating temperature and configuration of the heating boats inside the modified gas condensation chamber, nanoclusters of varying sizes, shapes and composition can be produced. The composition and nanostructured morphology were shown to influence the catalytic properties of the system. A copper content around 10 at% with a morphology that favors high-energy surfaces of ceria is shown to be beneficial for a high catalytic activity.

  • Electrical and electromagnetic methods were widely applied to survey of civil engineering, environment site assessments and maintenance of underground structures in Korea. Electro-physical properties measurements of soil and rock are necessary in order to quantitatively estimate the ground from these survey results. A few geotechnical researcher groups have been simplified measurement system of the electro-physical properties, which was intermittently operating by the necessity. Recent strong concern about $CO_2$ underground storage and development of gas hydrate projects have urged many advanced countries. The electro-physical properties estimation of the deep object stratum is very importance for basic information of these research. So, advanced countries have a high-end measurement system with high temperature(200 degrees) and pressure(300 MPa), also they have been a lot of experience and know-how on the electro-physical properties measurement.

  • In this paper, high Xe(Ne+Xe 10%, 20%, 30%) AC-PDP's discharge characteristics according to aging time were studied. The static margin, Vt close curve, discharge time lag was measured for experiments. According to increase of Xe partial pressure, the static margin and luminance was increased. As the result of analysis for misfiring probability, the misfiring is frequently occurred in accordance with increasing of aging time. To improve misfiring, we proposed 3Reset waveform and achieved misfiring probability which was improved.

  • All modem, aerospace gas turbines must operate with hot stage gas temperature several hundreds of degrees hotter than the melting temperatures of the materials used in their construction. Complicated cooling schemes need to be employed in the combustor walls and In the high pressure turbine stages. Internal passages are cast or machined into the hot sections of aero-gas turbine engines and air from the compressor is used for cooling. In many cases, the cooling system is engineered to utilize jets of high velocity air, which impinge on the internal surfaces of the components. They are divided by Impinging cooling method and Vortex cooling method. Specially, Research of new cooling system(Vortex cooling method) that overcome inefficiency of film cooling and limitation of space. The focus of new cooling system that improve greatly cooling efficiency using quantity's cooling air which is less is set in surface heat transfer elevation. Therefore, In this study, the numerical analysis have been performed for characteristic of flow and thermal in the swirl chamber and compared with the flow field measurement by LDV. especially, for understanding of high heat transfer efficiency in vicinity of wall. we considered flow structure and mechanism of vortex and heat transfer characteristic in variation of Reynolds number.

  • High pressure x-ray diffraction study was performed on a synthetic FeOOH-goethite to check out its compressibility at room temperature. Angular dispersive x-ray diffraction method was employed using a symmetrical diamond anvil cell with synchrotron radiation. Bulk modulus was determined to be 222.8 GPa under assumption of $K_{T'}$ of 4.0. This value is too high comparing with the previously published values from natural samples. It has been discussed the possible causes to incur its high bulk modulus value according to the production conditions.

  • The present paper deals with improvement in disperse dyeablility as well as imparting of cationic dyeablility to difficultly dyeable polypropylene by a melt blending technique. Isotactic polypropylene (PP) was blended with fibre grade polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), cationic dyeable polyethylene terephthalate (CDPET) and polystyrene (PS), individually. The resulting binary blends were spun and drawn into fibres at draw ratio 2, 2.5, and 3. The compatibility of blends, structural changes of fibres in terms of X-ray crystallinity, relative crystallinity, sonic modulus, birefringence and thermal stability were examined. The blended fibres were found to be disperse dyeable by the conventional method of high temperature and high pressure dyeing. And this dye ability increased with increase in the level of substitution. PP/CDPET blend also exhibited dyeablility with cationic dyes in addition to that with disperse dyes. The optimum level of blending was predicted keeping in view of tenacity and thermal stability of melt blend fibres. The wash fastness properties of the dyed fibres were found to be of high rate.

  • For the flow analysis of reactive compressible media involving energetic materials and metallic confinements, a Hydro-SCCM (Shock Compression of Condensed Matter) tool is developed for handling multi-physics shock analysis of energetics and inerts. The highly energetic flows give rise to the strong non-linear shock waves and the high strain rate deformation of compressible boundaries at high pressure and temperature. For handling the large gradients associated with these complex flows in the condensed phase as well as in the reactive gaseous phase, a new Eulerian multi-fluid method is formulated. Mathematical formulation of explosive dynamics involving condensed matter is explained with an emphasis on validating and application of hydro-SCCM to a series of problems of high speed multimaterial dynamics in nature.

  • TBP (tertiarybutylphosphine), a relatively new material for phosphorus, has been studied with EDMIn (ethyldimethylindium) as an indium source for the growth of InP by MOVPE (metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy). Mirror smooth and good crystalline InP layers were obtained at $500-600^{\circ}C$ with the TBP/EDMIn molar ratio as low as 21. The deposited InP layers are all n-type with the electron concentration in the range of (5-10)${\times}10^{16}\;cm^{-3}$, which is a lot higher than those from $PH_3$. This high concentration is due presumably to the high concentration of donor impurities in TBP. And it has been found that the formation of adduct occurs between EDMIn and TBP at room temperature when the partial pressure of EDMIn in the reactant mixture is above $1{\times}10^{-2}$ Torr. The high concentration of impurities in TBP and the adduct formation between EDMIn and TBP are major obstacles in replacing $PH_3$ and TMIn for the growth of device quality InP layers.

  • A direct wafer bonding process necessary for GaAs-on-insulator (GOI) fabrication with high thermal annealing temperatures was studied by using PECVD oxides between gallium arsenide and silicon wafers. In order to apply some uniform pressure on initially-bonded wafer pairs, a graphite sample holder was used for wafer bonding. Also, a tool for measuring the tensile forces was fabricated to measure the wafer bonding strengths of both initially-bonded and thermally-annealed samples. GaAs/$SiO_2$/Si wafers with 0.5-$\mu$m-thick PECVD oxides were annealed from $100^{\circ}C\;to\;600^{\circ}C$. Maximum bonding strengths of about 84 N were obtained in the annealing temperature range of $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. The bonded wafers were not separated up to $600^{\circ}C$. As a result, the GOI wafers with high annealing temperatures were demonstrated for the first time.
