  • It has been widely believed that the exact measurement of the forces exerted on teeth and its structures by the lingual and perioral musculatures such as lip, cheek and tongue is important and significant in dentistry. Such measuring, moreover, is highly emphasized the importance of the fact that it can be of much help to study the physiological function displayed in the oral cavity. Recognizing the importance of measuring the pressures, the author has devised an electronic device consisting of pressure transducers utilizing reistance-strnain gauges. This electronic strain gauge was very easy to manipulate and its scale error was extremely minimized, unaffected by mouth temperature, mosture and external forces Author was able to read its results with attached meter without using calibration chart. Futhermore, the sensitivity of this electronic device was extremely high, Thus it facilitated to measure a force from 0 to 230 grams.

  • To inject fresh air into a fire room, Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) can be used and the blower of PPV increases inside pressure of the room. It makes high flow rate of products of combustion, smoke and heat from the structure, and it is very helpful to fireman on the fire extinguishing work. The flame moves to the direction of airflow and the temperature of flame can be decreased rapidly. In this experiment, a water mist system is applied to PPV to increase the effectiveness, and various effective factors are studied. n-Heptane and pine wood stick were used as fuel. Temperatures at the above and behind the combustion pan were strongly reduced by the water mist system and by the convective cooling with airflow. The smoke density was also decreased by PPV with water mist system and it can be explained by the absorption of smoke particles on the water mist droplet and by the strong exhausting effects of mobile fan.

  • Transparent ZnO thin films were prepared by KrF pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique and applied to a bottom-gate type thin film transistor device as an active channel layer. A high conductive crystalline Si substrate was used as an metal-like bottom gate and SiN insulating layer was then deposited by LPCVD(low pressure chemical vapour deposition). An aluminum layer was then vacuum evaporated and patterned to form a source/drain metal contact. Oxygen partial pressure and substrate temperature were varied during the ZnO PLD deposition process and their influence on the thin film properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Hall-van der Pauw method. Optical transparency of the ZnO thin film was analyzed by UV-visible phometer. The resulting ZnO-TFT devices showed an on-off ration of $10^6$ and field effect mobility of 2.4-6.1 $cm^2/V{\cdot}s$.

  • Thin films of Ti-Ni alloy were formed by sputtering under various Ar gas pressures and r. f. powers to investigate the optimum sputtering conditions and to demonstrate their shape memory effect. The composition and structure of the films were examined by electron micro-probe analysis and scanning electron microscope. These films were annealed in order to crystallize them. The mechanical property of the annealed films was evaluated by a conventional bending test. The transformation tmeperatures were determined by differential scanning calorimetry. The shape memory behaviour was examined quantiatatively by changing in sample temperature under various constant loads. It was found that the Ar gas pressure had a critical effect on the mechanical property of the thin film,s although the r.f. power also affected it. The films formed at a high Ar gas pressure were too brittle to be bent successfully. However, the films formed at a low Ar gas pressur could be bent and their shape memory behavior was found to be comparable with that of bulk Ti-Ni alloys.

  • Deposition characteristics of Cu thin films using Ar carrier gas and $H_2$ processing gas at various working pressures and substrate temperatures were investigated. Also, effects of $H_2$ pretreatment using plasma at $200^{\circ}C$ of substrate temperature and 0.6 Torr of chamber pressure were stdied. Cu thin films were deposited on TiN/Si substrate at working pressure of 0.5~1.5 Torr, substrate temperatures of 140~$240^{\circ}C$ with (hface)Cu(tmvs). Substrates were pretreated by $H_2$ plasma, and Cu films deposited in situ using twofold shower head. The purity, electrical resistivity, thickness, surface morphology, optical properties of the deposited Cu films were measured b the AES, four point probe, stylus profiler, SEM,. and the uv-visible spectrophotometer. This study suggests that $H_2$ plasma is an effective method for enhancing deposition rate and for producing high quality copper thin films.

  • Isothermal solubilities of nitrogen in clean fire extinguishing agents, such as bromotrifluoromethane (Halon-1301), bromochlorodifluoromethane (Halon-121 t), 1,1,1,2,3,3,3- heptafluoropropane (HFC-227ea), and trifluoroiodomethane (FIC-13I1) were measured in a circulation-type equilibrium apparatus. The temperature range was (293.2 to 313.2) K and the pressure range was (30 to 100) bar. The experimental data were well correlated with the Peng- Robinson equation of state using the Wong and Sandier mixing rules, and the relevant parameters are presented.

  • A novel electrostatic spraying method to solidify molten zinc coating layer was studied by SEM and measurement of sample's temperature. The sprayed droplets also served as nucleation sites in the solidification reaction of molten zinc but might leave the pitting mark by impinging on its surface especially at high spray pressure. Our experimental results showed that electric field could change the sprayed particle trajectories and assist the fine droplets to attach on the surface. Thus, by reducing the spray pressure and by applying the electric voltage higher than -20 KV to charge the droplets electrostatically, we could produce the spangle free galvanized coating layer without pitting.

  • The shape of plate-fin type heat sink is numerically optimized to acquire the minimum pressure drop under the required temperature rise. In constrained nonlinear optimization problems of thermal/fluid systems, three fundamental difficulties such as high computational cost for function evaluations (i.e., pressure drop and thermal resistance), the absence of design sensitivity information, and the occurrence of numerical noise are commonly confronted. Thus, a sequential approximate optimization (SAO) algorithm has been introduced because it is very hard to obtain the optimal solutions of fluid/thermal systems by means of gradient-based optimization techniques. In this study, the progressive quadratic response surface method (PQRSM) based on the trust region algorithm, which is one of sequential approximate optimization algorithms, is used for optimization and the heat sink is optimized by combining it with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

  • Copper and aluminum selective deposition using (hfac)Cu(VTMS) and DMEAA precursors were performed in a warm-wall low pressure chemical vapour deposition reactor. The films of Cu and AI deposited on Corning 7059 glass and quartz with pattern of Cr seed metal. Selective deposition can be achieved at a pressure range of from 10-1 to 10 torr and substrate temperature range of 150-25$0^{\circ}C$. Selective deposition of Cu and AI by CVD is one of candidate for gate material formation fo larger area and high resolution plat panel displays.

  • The ignition of ethanol-oxygen-argon mixture was studied in reflected shock waves over the temperature range of 1281-1625 K and the pressure range of 0.69-1.06 bar. The ignition delay time was measured by the sudden increase of pressure profile and the radiation emitted by OH radicals. The relationship between the ignition delay time and the concentrations of ethanol and oxygen was determined in the form of mass-action expressions with an Arrhenius temperature dependence. In contrast to the behavior observed in methanol, ethanol acts to inhibit rather than accelerate its own ignition. Several kinetic mechanisms proposed for ethanol oxidation at high temperatures have been tested by the computer simulation.
