  • The purpose of this study is an evaluation of end mills to develop appropriate tools for the high speed machining. First of all, several flat end mills which are produced by different makers are selected to analyze the performances of the tools. Experimental works are also executed to measure cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness for different cutting conditions. And then the results are compared and analyzed for developing optimal cutting tool in the high speed condition. Especially, analysis about tool wear is introduced in this research.

  • The high speed machining which cam improve the production and quality has been remarkable in die/mold industry with the growth of parts and materials industries. The speed of machine tool increases, but on the other hand, the response of sensors I not being improved. Therefore, the condition monitoring techniques for the machine too, tool and workpiece in high speed machining are incomplete. In this study, characteristics of the tool edge roughness were verified from the high frequency components of cutting force signals acquired by the high speed dynamometer. Also, the experimental evaluation technique for the machinability and condition monitoring in high speed machining was established by analyzing the cutting force, acceleration and surface roughness.

  • In this study, residual stress was investigated experimentally to evaluate damaged layer in high-sped machining. In machining difficult-to-cut material, residual stress remaining in machined surface was mainly speared as compressive stress. The scale of this damaged layer depends upon cutting speed, feed per tooth and radial cutting depth. Damaged layer was measured by optical microscope. The micro-structure of damaged layer was a mixed maternsite and austenite. depth of damaged layer is increased with increasing of cutting temperature, cutting force and radial depth. On the other hand, that is slightly decreased with decreasing of cutting force. The increase of tool wear causes a shift of the maximum residual stress in machined surface layer.

  • Early fracture and cutting force of ceramic tool for hardened STC3 steel was investigated in this study. It was found that early fracture of ceramic tool was mostly occurred before normal wear was progressed beyond a critical cutting speed and normal wear was performed under the critical cutting speed. The relationships among critical cutting speed, which was a cause of early fracture, suggested cutting cross section, that is, maximum thickness of cut and width of cut, and cutting force were examined. The following conclusions were obtained: (1)Critical cutting speed showed a high value in the case of small maximum thickness of cut and large nose radius, but was not influenced by width of cut, (2)Principal, feed and radial force, respectively, showed the proportional value to constant cutting area, width of cut and maximum thickness of cut orderly, (3)Occurrence of early fracture was dependent upon radial force.

  • High-efficiency and high-quality machining has become a fact of life for numerous machine shops in recent years. And high-efficiency machining is the most significant tool to enhance productivity. In this study, to achieve high-efficiency machining in turning process, a spindle speed optimization method was proposed based on a cutting power model. The cutting force and power were estimated from the cutting parameters such as specific cutting force, feed, depth of cut, and spindle speed. The time delay due to the acceleration or deceleration of spindle was considered to predict a more accurate machining time. Especially, the good agreement between the predicted and measured cutting forces showed the reliability of the proposed optimization method, and the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method was demonstrated through the simulation results associated with the productivity enhancement in turning process

  • KS and ISO have proposed several evaluation methods of conventional machine tools. Even though the accuracy of the tools can be evaluated with those methods, there are still no proper evaluation methods of high speed machining. Because it is hard to evaluate characteristics of high speed machining such as decrease of cutting temperature, cutting force, and reduced machining time. Therefore, new evaluation method for high speed machine should be developed. In this paper, several shapes of model have been proposed to evaluate cutting accuracy of high speed machine.

  • Purpose: Chicken cutting is done manually, which is inefficient, unhygienic, and carries a high accident risk during processing. This study develops and evaluates an automatic chicken cutting machine that suits small-scale workplaces. Methods: This study developed an automatic chicken cutting machine equipped with four traverse blades and two longitudinal blades. An experiment was conducted with various blade rotating speeds and tray feed rates to evaluate the machine's performance. The chicken loss rate and chicken piece weights were measured to calculate the coefficient of variation (CV), thereby determining processing uniformity. Results: The optimal cutting conditions with the smallest chicken loss rate were 0.05 m/s tray feed speed and 18.8 m/s and 16.4 m/s for the traverse and longitudinal blades, respectively. The processing ran at 55.3 chickens per hour and the chicken pieces were more uniform when using the device than for hand-work processed pieces. Conclusions: The loss rate increased in proportion to the cutting-blade rotation speed due to the high cutting rate in meat. The loss rate also increased as the tray feed speed slowed because the cutting blade pushed the chicken meat. The tray feed speed should be increased to improve the amount processed per hour.

  • In recent years, there is increasing demand of esthetic design and complex function in aerospace, automobile and die/mold industry, which brings into limelight high-precision, high-efficient machining of sculptured surface. This paper deals with the establishment of the optimal tool path on free form surface in high speed ball end milling. Ball end milling is widely used for free form surface die and mold. In this machining, the cutting direction was changed with tool path. The cutting characteristics, such as cutting force and surface form are varied according to the variation of cutting directions. In this paper, the optimal tool path with down cutting in free form surface cutting is suggested.

  • High-speed machining generates concenter thermal/frictional damage at the cutting ed rapidly decreases the tool life. This paper I at determining the effect of cutter orienter the cutting environment on tool life, tool mechanism when down milling. In this paper, experiments were carried out in various tool and cutting environments, such as dry, wet compressed chilled air, tool life were measu evaluate machinability in high-speed milli difficult-to-cut material and die steel, Tool measured in horizontal upwards, horiz downwards, vertical upwards and vert downwards. In addition, tool life was measur dry, wet and compressed chilled air. For this a compressed chi1led-air system was manufact The results show that a horizontal cutter ori provided a longer tool life than a vertical orientation. With respect to the cutting envi compressed chilled air increased tool life. H the wet condition decreased tool life due thermal shock caused by excessive cooling high-speed mill ins and the compressed chilled had little effect.

  • In recent years, high hardness steel is used for most of the material in many areas including aircraft, nuclear power, space exploration and automotive parts. Low CBN tools are widely used in industrial field which can effectively process high hardness steel of HRC 45 or harder. The results of this study demonstrated, when high hardness steel, SCM440 is turned with Low CBN tools coated with TiN and TiAlN coatings respectively, that both the thrust force and cutting force tends to increase with more increase in cutting force than thrust force, as the feed rate increases at constant cutting speed. In addition, the size of the cutting force and thrust force does not change with the increased cutting speed at the same feed rate, but the tool life is reduced if the cutting speed is increased to shorten the machining time. Therefore, it is recommended to limit the cutting speed at 250 m/min maximum or less. Furthermore, comparing the cutting force of the three tools at the same cutting condition, Tin coating tool showed the smallest cutting force and Low CBN was the next, and the TiAlN coating tools showed the largest cutting force.
