  • This paper deals with enhancement of the high school equalization assignment system to be executed by the allied entrance examination after the applicants graduated from their middle schools. In prevailing opinion, because educational demander's will has not been considered under the current system, it whose merits have been covered is required to be improved. If the application system of the entrance examination for the high schools will be returned, a situation that it will result in irregularity of the middle school education and in overheating entrance examination seems to appear explicitly. Since the averages of the allied entrance examination score of all the high schools, achieved by the equalization-application nearest assignment system which is named by writers of this paper, are equal, our system is good for maintaining the merits of the current system. More than 50% educational demander's will has been reflected by our system, so that we come to the conclusion that our system is excellent in all the systems verified up to now. Assigning students to the high school to make an average difference between three and five score, we expect that relection rate of the educational demander's will be increased more than 60%.

  • Pattern Recognition measures the ability of learners to distinguish between two sets of shapes or figures. Locating similar patterns on either side of the presented problem determines a learner's capacity or aptitude for science over general studies. At Ajou University's Institute for Scientifically Enabled Youth, we conducted research using a sample composed of middle school students with general and scientific backgrounds. The result proved that Pattern Recognition measures a different creative talent other than problem solving. In our opinion, Pattern Recognition would be a method better suited to elementary learners over those in middle or high school.

  • For a profound understanding about the elementary students' scientific attitude, I have performed this study based on the students' opinion by the ethnographic interview and participant observation of science classes. I have analyzed the data by qualitative data analyzing method, and compared the analyzed results with analyzed results by the Likert's scaled as il questionnaire method. To perform this study, I selected one elementary school located in an agricultural village in Choong-Buk Province in Korea and studied four 5th grade students. Here, I present results of this study as follows. First, in ethnographic interview, all informants represented positive reaction to scientific curiosity. But, It is appeared that there are external curiosity and internal curiosity. Internal curiosity is more closely and positively related to problem solving skills. Second, all informants represented positive open-mindness expressing their own opinions actively and accepting other students' opinions. Students who had positive critical-mindness and voluntariness recorded high scores in science achievement. Third, scientific attitude analyzed by ethnographic methods didn't correspond with scientific attitude measured by Likert's scale in all cases. I presumed this discrepant result could come from subjects' different tendency on replying to questionnaire and students' own criterion.

The subjects in this study were 273 sophomores, juniors and seniors at a college located in a rural community. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 13.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. They gave a mean of 3.53 when they were asked about the effects of counseling, which indicated that they had a high opinion on that. 2. They didn't receive counseling often, as they got a mean of 3.22. The largest group of the students who accounted for 64.5 percent received counseling once or twice. 3. They didn't hope to take a lot of counseling on school life. They gave a mean of 3.37 to that. 4. They wanted to receive counseling on employment the most(45.4%), followed by academic standing(29.3%). Counselors should inform students of how to study to boost academic achievement when they provide counseling, and they should treat them with sincerity. In addition, students should be advised that not only specific students but everybody are eligible for counseling.
