Post Annealing Effects on Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized by Novel Hydrothermal Process

  • We have investigated the effects of post annealing on iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by the novel hydrothermal synthesis method with the $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$. To investigate the post annealing effect, the as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles were annealed at different temperatures in a vacuum chamber. The morphological, structural and magnetic properties of the iron oxide nanoparticles were investigated with high resolution X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer analysis. According to the XRD and HRTEM analysis results, as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles were only magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) phase with face-centered cubic structure but post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ were mainly magnetite phase with trivial maghemite ($\gamma-Fe_2O_3$) phase which was induced in the post annealing treatment. The crystallinity of the iron oxide nanoparticles is enhanced by the post annealing treatment. The particle size of the as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles was about 5 nm and the particle shape was almost spherical. But the particle size of the post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ was around 25 nm and the particle shape was spherical and irregular. The as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles showed superparamagnetic behavior, but post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ did not show superparamagnetic behavior due to the increase of particle size by post annealing treatment. The saturation of magnetization of the as-synthesized nanoparticles, post annealed nanoparticles at $500^{\circ}C$, and post annealed nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ was found to be 3.7 emu/g, 6.1 emu/g, and 7.5 emu/g, respectively. The much smaller saturation magnetization value than one of bulk magnetite can be attributed to spin disorder and/or spin canting, spin pinning at the nanoparticle surface.

Au-Si 나노점을 촉매로 성장한 Si 나노선의 구조 및 광학적 특성 연구 (Structural and optical properties of Si nanowires grown by Au-Si island-catalyzed chemical vapor deposition)

  • 나노크기의 Au-Si을 촉매로 급속열화학기상증착(rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition)법을 이용하여 Si(111) 기판에 성장한 Si 나노선의 구조적인 형태 변화와 광학적 특성을 연구하였다. 기상-액상-고상(vapor-liquid-solid) 성장법에 의한 Si 나노선 형성 과정에서 액상 입자인 Au-Si 나노점은 나노선 성장온도에서 촉매로 사용되었다. 이 액상 나노점이 형성된 Si 기판에 1.0Torr 압력과 $500-600^{\circ}C$ 기판 온도 하에서 $SiH_4$$H_2$의 혼합가스를 공급하여 Si 나노선을 형성하였다. Si 나노선 성장 후 형태를 전계방출 주사전자현미경(Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope)으로 관찰한 결과, 대부분의 나노선이 균일한 크기로 기판 표면에 수직하게 <111> 방향으로 정렬된 것을 확인하였다. 형성된 나노선의 크기는 평균 직경이 ${\sim}60nm$이고 평균 길이가 ${\sim}5um$임을 확인하였다. 또한 고 분해능 투과전자현미경(High Resolution-Transmission Electron Microscope) 관찰을 통해 Si 나노선은 약 3nm의 비정질 산화층으로 둘러 싸여 있는 Si 단결정임이 분석되었다. 그리고 마이크로 라만 분광(Micro-Raman Scattering)법을 통한 광학적 특성 분석 결과, Si의 광학 포논(Optical Phonon) 신호 위치가 Si 나노선 구조의 영향으로 낮은 에너지 쪽으로 이동하며, Si 포논 신호의 폭이 비대칭적으로 증가함을 확인하였다.

  • 저압 유기금속화학기상증착법을 이용하여 효율적인 청색 발광을 하는 InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells(MQWs)을 성장시키고, InGaN/GaN MQWs의 광학적 및 계면 구조 특성을 고찰하였다. 보다 효율적인 청색 발광을 하는 InGaN/GaN MQWs을 성장시키기 위하여, MQWs의 성장온도 및 InGaN 우물층과 GaN 장벽층의 두께를 변화시켜 최적 조건을 확립하였다. 특히, GaN 장벽층의 두께 변화가 InGaN 우물층과 GaN 장벽층간 계면의 구조적 특성에 지대한 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. X-ray 회절분석결과와 고분해능의 투과전자현미경 사진 분석으로부터 MQW 구조의 InGaN 우물층과 GaN 장벽층간의 계면이 매우 급준함을 발견할 수 있었다. 또한, 상온 PL 스펙트럼에서 72.6meV의 매우 좁은 반치폭을 갖는 단일 피크가 463.5nm에서 확인되었다.

고해상도 엑스선 광전자 분광법을 이용한 다결정구조의 안티몬-테레니움 박막 연구 (High-Resolution X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of a Sb2Te3 Thin Film with the Polycrystalline Phase)

  • 스퍼터를 이용하여 실리콘 기판위에 제작된 안티몬-테레니움 다결정 박막을 방사광을 이용한 고해상도 엑스선 광전자 분광법 실험을 수행하여 화학적 상태를 분석하였다. 엑스선 회절 실험을 통해 제작된 안티몬-테레니움 박막은 롬보헤드럴 구조를 가지는 다결정임을 확인하였다. 엑스선 광전자분광법을 수행하기 위하여 표면의 산화막 제거를 위해 저에너지 네온 이온 스퍼터링을 빔에너지 1 kV로 1 시간동안 수행하였고, 이를 통해 표면 산화막이 완벽히 제거됨을 확인하였다. 또한, 스퍼처링에 의하여 표면 비정질화된 상태를 결정화 상태로 만들기 위해 상변화온도인 $100^{\circ}C$에서 5 분간 초고진공상태에서 열처리를 수행하였다. 이후 획득되어진 테레니움 4d와 안티몬 4d 속전자레벨 분석에서 각각의 묶음에너지가 40.4 그리고 33.0 전자볼트임을 확인할 수 있었으며, 각각은 단일한 화학적 상태를 나타내고 얻어진 피크의 밀도분석을 통해 화학적조성비가 2 : 3임을 확인하였다.

  • Organic light-emitting device (OLED) have become very attractive due to their potential application in flat panel displays. One important problem to be solved for practical application of full-color OLED is development of three primary color (Red, Green and Blue) emitting molecule with high luminous operation. Particularly, the development of organic materials for blue electroluminescence (EL) lags significantly behind that for the other two primary colors. For this reason, Flu-Si was synthesized and characterized by means of high-resolution mass spectro metry and elemental analyses. Flu-Si has the more wide optical band gap (Eg = 3.86) than reference material (Cz-Si, Eg = 3.52 eV). We measured the photophysical and electrochemical properties of Flu-Si. The HOMO-LUMO levels were estimated by the oxidation potential and the onset of the UV-Vis absorption spectra. The EL properties were studied by the device fabricated as a blue light emitting material with FIrpic.

Poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide] 고분자의 합성과 자외선에 대한 반응특성 (Synthesis and Photosensitive Properties of Poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide] Containing Photosensitive Groups)

  • Synthesis of poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide](PFOMI) as photopolymer were investigated with various kinds of photosensitive groups. Generally, photopolyimide have some deficiencies in solubility, sensitivity, reserve stability of the photosensitive solution, and the precision of image pattern. The study has been required on those polymers which have high glass transition temperature and photo efficiency, and low dielectricity. The existing condensation resins require high curing temperature and perfect elimination of subreacted materials that are produced during the process after irradiation and various membrane damages such as the deformation and contraction in image pattern cure. In this study poly[N-(hydroxyphenyl)maleimide](PHPMI) was synthesized. The PHPMI were analyzed by H-NMR and FT-IR. The measured number average molecular weight of PHPMI was produced was $1.06{\times}10^4$. Poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide](PFOMI) as a type of photo-Fries rearrangement was synthesized by NHPMI and formic acid followed by radical polymerization. PFOMI was analyzed by FT-IR, and photocharacteristics was investgated by UV spectra and FT-IR before and after UV irradiation. Based on the image characteristics of PFOMI measured from optical micrographs, it was formed that the resolution of positive type PFOMI was $0.5{\mu}m$.

Investigation of Physicochemical Properties of Mo Carbide Utilizing Electron Spectroscopy

  • Molybdenum carbide (MoCx) thin films (TFs) were deposited by reactive radio frequency (rf) magnetron co-sputtering in high vacuum chamber. We compared the properties of MoCx thin films as the rf power changed on C target. The result of alpha step measurement showed that the thickness of the MoCx TFs varied from163.3 to 194.86 nm as C power was increased from 160 to 200 W. The crystallinity of MoCx such as b-Mo2C, Mo2C, and diamond like carbon (DLC) structures were observed by XRD. The oxidation states of Mo and C were determined using high resolution XPS spectra of Mo 3d and C 1s were deconvoluted. Molybdenum was consisted of Mo, Mo4+, and Mo6+ species. And C was deconvoluted to C-Mo, C, C-O, and C=O species.

  • 오리엔트산 및 한국산 향끽미종 잎담배의 휘발성이 적은 성분들을 간단한 장치와 간단한 조작을 통해 분리 농축하였다. 각 휘발성이 적은 농축물들은 가시 영역에서 흡광도를 측정하고 박층 크로마토그라피 (TLC)와 고성능 액체 크로마토그라피 (HPLC)에 의해서 상세한 조성분석을 하였다. 각 품종간의 정량적인 차이가 가시광선 흡수 스펙트라, TLC 패턴, HPLC프로파일 상에서 확인되었다.

역광전자분광기의 제작 및 그 응용 (Construction of Inverse Photoemission Spectrometer and Its Application)

  • 고체표면의 비점유 전자에너지 상태를 연구하고자 역광전자분광기를 제작하고 시험하였다. 이 분광기는 초고진공 챔버속에 전자총과 광검출기로 구성되어 있다. 전자총은 궤도 시뮬레이션과 전류 측정을 통해 좋은 집속도와 높은 전류밀도를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이 분광기의 전체적인 분해능은 0.74 eV이고, 광검출기의 감도는 약 10 counts/$sec{\cdot}{\mu}A$이다. 하나의 결과로서 Ge(111) 시료의 역광전자분광 스펙트럼은 이론적인 계산결과와 잘 일치하였다.

Wind characteristics of a strong typhoon in marine surface boundary layer

  • High-resolution wind data were acquired from a 100-m high offshore tower during the passage of Typhoon Hagupit in September, 2008. The meteorological tower was equipped with an ultrasonic anemometer and a number of cup anemometers at heights between 10 and 100 m. Wind characteristics of the strong typhoon, such as mean wind speed and wind direction, turbulence intensity, turbulence integral length scale, gust factor and power spectra of wind velocity, vertical profiles of mean wind speed were investigated in detail based on the wind data recorded during the strong typhoon. The measured results revealed that the wind characteristics in different stages during the typhoon varied remarkably. Through comparison with non-typhoon wind measurements, the phenomena of enhanced levels of turbulence intensity, gust factors, turbulence integral length scale and spectral magnitudes in typhoon boundary layer were observed. The monitored data and analysis results are expected to be useful for the wind-resistant design of offshore structures and buildings on seashores in typhoon-prone regions.
