In this study, the instability of a centrifugal compressor with vaned diffuser was investigated. During unstable operation of the test compressor, pressure fluctuations at different diffuser radius ratios were measured by using high frequency pressure transducers. Two different types of stall, mild and deep stall, were observed alternately and irregularly at some flow rate where the compressor performance was steeply deteriorated. In this transient zone, the size of rotating stall cell was estimated through the Wavelet transform analysis. It was about 45 percents of rotor circumferential space at 3000 rpm and not dependent on flow rate.

This paper presents leakage characteristics of a scroll compressor applying alternative refrigerants of R22 such as R407c and R410a under actual operating conditions. Because leakage in a scroll compressor produce significant losses and degradation of performance, those should be clarified to design a high efficient scroll compressor with alternative refrigerants of R22. However, flank and tip leakage characteristics of a scroll compressor with alternative refrigerants are very limited in open literature. In the present study, both experimentation and modeling of the leakages in the scroll compressor were performed. As a result, it was observed that the leakages of the scroll compressor with R407c increased by 15%, and that with R410a increased by 76% as compared to the compressor applying R22 under standard load conditions due to a higher upstream pressure and a higher pressure difference between pockets.

In the jet engines on the aircrafts cruising at high altitude over 20 km and subsonic speed, the Reynolds number in terms of the compressor blades becomes very low. In such an operating condition with low Reynolds number, it is widely reported that total pressure loss of the air flow through the compressor cascades increases dramatically due to separation of the boundary layer and the secondary-flow. But the detail of flow mechanisms causes the total pressure loss has not been fully understood yet. In the present study, two series of numerical investigations were conducted to study the effects of Reynolds number on the aerodynamic characteristics of compressor cascades. At first, the incompressible flow fields in the two-dimensional compressor cascade composed of C4 airfoils were numerically simulated with various values of Reynolds number. Compared with the corresponding experimental data, the numerically estimated trend of total pressure loss as a function of Reynolds number showed good agreement with that of experiment. From the visualized numerical results, the thickness of boundary layer and wake were found to increase with the decrease of Reynolds number. Especially at very low Reynolds number, the separation of boundary layer and vortex shedding were observed. The other series, as the preparatory investigation, the flow fields in the transonic compressor, NASA Rotor 37, were simulated under the several conditions, which corresponded to the operation at sea level static and at 10 km of altitude with low density and temperature. It was found that, in the case of operation at high altitude, the separation region on the blade surface became lager, and that the radial and reverse flow around the trailing edge become stronger than those under sea level static condition.
The characteristics of two stage compressor which is constituted of two separated reciprocating compressors was tested measuring the volumetric efficiency of each compressor at suction of both bighandlowpressdresideusillgorificetypeflolrmeters. The volumetric efficiency of low pressure side compressor was lower than that of the high side when they were operating under the same compression ratio. And it tended to reduce obviously by lowering evaporating temperature resulting in a markable reduction of refrigerating capacity at the same time. It is assumed that the falling of volumetric efficiency at low side compressor was directed by the decrease in evaporating temperature which derives the falls of gas pressure at suction, increase in compression ratio, and gas flow resistance at suction and discharge valves.
Diaphragm compressors play a crucial role in safely compressing large volumes of high-purity hydrogen gas without contamination or leakage, thereby ensuring quality and reliability. Diaphragm compressors use a thin, flat, triple-layered diaphragm plate that is subjected to repetitive piston pressure for compression. They are usually made of metallic materials such as stainless steel or Inconel owing to their high-pressure resistance. However, since they are consumable components, they fail due to fatigue from repetitive pressure and vibration stress. This study aims to evaluate the scratch characteristics of diaphragms in operational environments by conducting tests on three different samples: Inconel 718, AISI 301, and Teflon-coated AISI 301. The Inconel 718 sample underwent a polishing process, the AISI 301 sample used raw material, and the Teflon coating was applied to the AISI 301 substrate at a thickness of 50 ㎛. To assess the scratch resistance, reciprocating motion friction tests were performed using a tribometer, utilizing 220 and 2000 grit sandpapers as the counter materials. The results of the friction tests suggested that the Teflon-coated sample exhibited the lowest initial friction coefficient and consistently maintained the lowest average friction coefficient (0.13 and 0.11 with 220 and 2000 grit, respectively) throughout the test. Moreover, the Teflon-coated diaphragm showed minimal wear patterns, indicating superior scratch resistance than the Inconel 718 and AISI 301 samples. These findings suggest that Teflon coatings may offer an effective solution for enhancing scratch resistance in diaphragms, thereby improving compressor performance in high-pressure hydrogen applications.
The characteristics of tip vortex within a blade tip region were examined experimentally in various flow coefficients by the way of changing tip clearance and blade stagger angle in an axial Low Speed Research Compressor(LSRC). The objective was to identify the unsteady pressure distribution in the blade passage by ensemble average technique acquired from high-frequency response pressure transducers and the tip vortex by root mean square value(RMS value). Data were reduced statistically using phase-lock technique for detailed pressure distributions.

The conceptual determination of mixed-refrigerant (MR) for a closed Joule-Thomson cryocooler is described in this paper. The thermodynamic cycle design was mainly considered to develop a cryocooler by using a compressor of domestic air-conditioning unit. The target cooling performance of the designed cryocooler is 10 W around 70 K with less than 5 kJ/kg enthalpy rise. The systematic approach of choosing a proper refrigerant among 20 different kinds of mixture for such cryogenic temperature was introduced in detail. The main components of the cryocooler are compressor, evaporator, oil separator, after-cooler, counterflow heat exchanger, and J-T expansion device. Due to the limitation of the compressor operation range, the temperature after the compression was limited below $117^{\circ}C$ (390 K) and the temperature before compression was restricted above $5^{\circ}C$ (278 K). 20 atm of discharging pressure (high pressure) and less than 3 atm suction pressure (low pressure) were the design conditions. The inlet temperature of a counterflow heat exchanger in the high Pressure side was about 300 K. The proper composition of the mixed refrigerant for the designed J-T cryocooler is 15% mol of$ N_2, 30% mol of $CH_4,\; 30% mol\; of C^2H^ 6,\; 10%\; mol\; of\; C_3H_8\; and \;15%\; mol\; of\; i-C_4H_10$.
Recently, from the viewpoint of global wanning, natural gas CO2 is considered as a main refrigerant for hot water system. The characteristics of CO2 is not toxic, not flammable, high pressure, and high refrigerating capacity. Also it is widely available as a byproduct of industrial processes. This paper describes the performance analysis program of the swash plate type compressor using CO2 refrigerant. Estimates of the refrigerant flow rate, compression work, discharge temperature and volumetric, compressor efficiencies of the CO2 swash plate type compressor are obtained from the various design parameter such as the inclination angle of the swash plate, discharge hole area and suction hole area.
Nowadays, study about hydrogen fuel which consist of hydrogen extraction process, reforming, fuel cell equipment, and receptacle are flourish all over the world. Currently, Korea hydrogen station is still underdevelopment. Yet the most important part such as hydrogen compressor has not been develop. Therefore, if the high pressure compressor for hydrogen have been developed by domestic technology. In the future many benefit can be gain instead of importing. Such as many hydrogen station can be built in Korea, and also Korea will be able to provide hydrogen system for worldwide. This study is going to analysis hydrogen compressor in order to store high pressure hydrogen. This is almost approach practical use of tile hydrogen storage method.

As the development of hydrogen vehicles has accelerated in recent years, it is necessary to develop a storage tank for hydrogen fueling stations capable of high-pressure charging, and for this purpose, a new system with a compressor-embedded refueling tank is required. In this study, the parametric study of shape design based on strength performance evaluation was carried out to find the optimal shape design of bellows, the core component of compressor-embedded refueling tank for a newly developed hydrogen refueling station capable of high-pressure charging above 1,000 bar. The design factors for parametric study were contour shape and radius of bellows, and the performance factors were the maximum stress and the gap distance in the contact direction. In the shape design of the compressor bellows for hydrogen refueling station considered in this study, it was found that adjusting the contour radius is an appropriate design method to improve the compression performance and structural safety.
