  • Single phase converters suffer from ripple power pulsating at twice the line frequency. The ripple power is usually absorbed by a bulky capacitor bank and/or a dedicative LC resonant link, resulting in a low power density and a high cost. An alternative solution is using a dc link active power filter (APF) to direct the pulsating power into another energy-storage component. The main dc link filter capacitor can then be reduced substantially. Based on a mainstream dc APF topology, this paper proposed a new control strategy incorporating both dual-loop control and repetitive control. The circuit parameter design is also re-examined from a control point of view. The proposed APF scheme has better control performance, and is more suited for high power applications since it works in CCM and with a low switching frequency.

  • A single active capacitor snubber-assisted soft-switching sinewave pulse modulation utility-interactive power conditioner with a three-winding flyback high frequency transformer link and a bidirectional active power switch in its secondary side has been proposed. With the aid of the switched-capacitor quasi-resonant snubber cell, the high frequency switching devices in the primary side of the proposed DC-to-AC sinewave power inverter can be turned-off with ZVS commutation. In addition to this, the proposed power conditioner in the DCM can effectively take the advantages of ZCS turn-on commutation. Its output port is connected directly to the utility AC power source grid. At the end, the prototype of the proposed HF-UPC is built and tested in experiment. Its power conversion conditioning and processing circuit with a high frequency flyback transformer link is verified and the output sinewave current is qualified in accordance with the power quality guidelines of the utility AC interactive power systems.

  • The wind power system is spotlighted as one of the no-pollution power generation systems. The system uses winds as power source that are rotated the blade and the rotating power from blade generate the electricity power. Gearbox needs to transfer the wind powers that have the high-torque-low-speed characteristics to generator that have the low-torque-high-speed characteristics. Because the wind power system generally locates the remote place like seaside or mountainside and the gearbox installs on the limited and high placed space, the gearbox of the wind power system is required the optimal space design and high reliability. In this paper, the structure of the gearbox is proposed to achieve the optimal space and efficiency by compounding the planetary gear train that has the high power density and parallel type gear train that has the long service life. The design parameters that are affected the service life are studied. The gear ratio and face width are investigated as an affected parameter for design sensitivity of service life.

  • The utility interfaced sinewave modulation Inverter for the solar photovoltaic power conditioner with a high frequency transformer is presented for residential applications. As compared with the conventional full-bridge hard switching slnewave PWM inverter with a high frequency link, the simplest single-ended edge-resonant soft switching sinewave inverter with a sinewave duty cycle pulse control scheme is implemented, resulting in size and weight reduction, low cost and high efficiency This paper presents a prototype system of the sinewave zero voltage soft switching sinewave inverter for solar power conditioner, along with its operating principle and unique features. In addition to these, this paper discusses a control implementation to deliver high quality output current. Major design of each component and the power loss analysis under actual power processing is also discussed and evaluated from an experimental point of view A newly developed utility-connected sinewave power conditioning circuit which achieves 92.5% efficiency under 4kW output is demonstrated.

  • A new high voltage DC power supply is proposed. The proposed power supply is constructed with several power converters connected in series. It is easy to obtain high DC voltage for the same structure of each power converter. The output DC power of the proposed power supply can be disconnected from the load within several hundred microseconds at the instant of a load short-circuit fault. The rising time of the output DC voltage is also as small as several hundred microseconds, and there is no overshoot of the voltage because all of the output filter capacitors keep undischarged state even in load short-circuit condition. Therefore, the proposed scheme is suitable for the protection of frequent output short-circuit and fast on/off switching of output DC voltage. The proposed power supply has improved features such as simple structure, high power factor, and reduced size and volume compared with the conventional schemes. The operating principle is described and the validity of the proposed scheme is proved through simulations and experiments.

Proposed topology has three functions which are high voltage driving, high side current sensing and low voltage boost controller. High voltage gate driving block provides LED dimming function and switch function such as a load switch of LED driver. To protect abnormal fault and burn out of LED bar, it is applied high side current sensing method with high voltage driver. • Offshore wind farms are rapidly growing owing to their comparatively more stable wind conditions than onshore and land-based wind farms. The power capacity of offshore wind turbines has been increased to 5MW in order to capture a larger amount of wind energy, which results in an increase of each component's size. Furthermore, the weight of the marine turbine components installed in the nacelle directly influences the total mechanical design, as well as the operation and maintenance (O&M) costs. A reduction in the weight of the nacelle allows for cost-effective tower and foundation structures. On the other hand, longer transmission distances from an offshore wind turbine to the load leads to higher energy losses. In this regard, DC transmission is more useful than AC transmission in terms of efficiency because no reactive power is generated/consumed by DC transmission cables. This paper describes some of the challenges and difficulties faced in designing high-power-density power conversion systems (HPDPCSs) for offshore wind turbines. A new approach for high gain/high voltage systems is introduced using transformerless power conversion technologies. Finally, the proposed converter is evaluated in terms of step-up conversion ratio, device number, modulation, and costs.

  • In this paper, we studied 4H-SiC CMOS that can be integrated with high-voltage SiC power devices. After designing the CMOS on a 4H-SiC substrate, we compared the electrical characteristics with the reliability of high temperature operation by TCAD simulation. In particular, it was confirmed that changing HfO2 as the gate dielectric for reliable operation at high temperatures improves the thermal properties compared to SiO2. By researching SiC CMOS devices, we can integrate high-power SiC power devices with SiC CMOS for excellent performance in terms of efficiency and cost of high-power systems.

  • This paper deals with novel electronic ballast based on single-stage power processing topology using a symmetrical half-bridge inverter and current injection circuit. The half-bridge inverter drives the output parallel resonant circuit and injects current through the power factor correction (PFC) circuit. Because of high frequency current injection and high frequency modulated voltage, the proposed circuit maintains the unity power factor (UPF) with low THD even under wide variation in ac input voltage. This circuit needs minimum and lower sized components to achieve the UPF and high efficiency. This leads to an increase in reliability of ballast at low cost. Furthermore, to reduce cost, the electronic ballast is designed for two series-connected fluorescent lamps (FL). The analysis and experimental results are presented for ($2{\times}36$ Watt) fluorescent lamps operating at 50 kHz switching frequency and input line voltage (230 V, 50 Hz).
