  • An X-event is an event that is difficult to predict and unlikely to occur, but if it occurs, it has a very large ripple effect, such as loss of life, property, territory, and emotional turmoil. Extreme events are unlikely to occur, but they can happen someday, and if they do, they have a great impact on society as a whole, so they must be prepared to minimize the impact and impact. For this purpose, we collected opinions from low-level experts at the Korea Army Research Center for Future & Innovation and the Army College on extreme events that can trigger the near future (10 years) in the field of high-tech science and technology, which is currently developing rapidly after the 4th Industrial Revolution. The researchers intend to synthesize and analyze this data to derive implications and provide a response direction to alleviate the ultra-uncertainty of extreme events and provide a cornerstone for crisis management strategies for the occurrence of serial and simultaneous extreme events.

  • Due to tidal force, it is very difficult to estimate the hydraulic parameters of high permeable aquifer near coastal area in Jeju Island. Therefore, to eliminate the impact of tidal force from groundwater level and estimate the hydraulic properties, tidal response technique has been mainly studied. In this study we have extracted 38 tidal constituents from groundwater level and harmonic constants including frequency, amplitude, and phase of each constituent using T_TIDE subroutine which is used to estimate oceanic tidal constituents, and then we have estimated hydraulic diffusivity associated with amplitude attenuation factor(that is the ratio of groundwater level amplitude to sea level amplitude for each tidal constituent) and phase lag(that is phase difference between groundwater level and sea level for each constituent). Also using harmonic constants for each constituent, we made the sinusoidal wave and then we constructed the synthesized wave which linearly combined sinusoidal wave. Finally, we could get residuals(net groundwater level) which was excluded most of tidal influences by eliminating synthesized wave from raw groundwater level. As a result of comparing statistics for synthesized level and net groundwater level, we found that the statistics for net groundwater level was more insignificant than those of synthesized wave. Moreover, in case of coastal aquifer which the impact of tidal force is even more than those of other environmental factors such as rainfall and groundwater yield, it is possible to predict groundwater level using synthesized wave and regression analysis of residuals.

  • The construction noise Is one of the main causes of environmental impact. The complaints about it have been increasing every year. In order to reduce construction machinery noise, the product noise labeling for construction machinery has been recommended since 1 February 1996 and In the near future the government will convert the recommended product noise labeling to the mandatory product noise labeling for high noise construction machinery. Therefore, we investigated the noise and vibration level of 302 construction machines in construction work sites. This paper presents the basic data that will be used for setting the standard of construction machinery noise and predicting the noise level near construction work sites in environmental Impact assessment.

  • This paper analyzes the technological competitiveness of aircraft-based industries that are the basis for the development of aircraft industry in Korea. By performing expert interviews with industry specialists in the field of aircraft technology, the paper categorizes eight fields that are fundamental to the development of the aircraft industry. By analyzing patents of G7 countries and Korea made in the US from 1995 to 2006 we were able to identify the technological specificities and competencies of each country. RTA (Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII (Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, by introducing the TCI (Technological Competitiveness Index) the paper is able to consider both the quantitative level and the qualitative level of patents for each field in the aircraft industry. By analyzing the TCI, the paper concludes that Korea has high technological prowess centered around IT industries such as semi-conductors/ electronics component, communication appliances and consumer electronics. Also Korea is relatively competitive in the precision instruments industry.

  • Railway noise barrier is generally used with welding of joint rail for railway noise reduction in our country. In this study, method for performance evaluation of railway noise barrier using insertion loss was suggested in case of without having noise measurement results before barrier installation. For this, railway noise measurements were performed in commercial high-speed railway site which has railway noise barrier. As a noise level before noise barrier installation, predicted noise level were used. From this method the performance evaluation for railway noise barrier were performed accurately and efficiently.

  • The vertical impact crusher is the machine which could produce artifical sand similar to natural aggregates in the site of guarry and pits. FEM was used to analyse the stress and strength of the machine at high rotational speed. The test specimen was made from the same material as the shaft and tension tests were conducted. The shaft under extreme conditions was analysed to determine maximum stress level and its location from the results. The maximum level of stress and its location could be predicted.

  • This thesis mainly studies the impact of short-term memory in VR tour games on users. The thesis is based on VR tour games and short-term memory, using the literature research method, the practical research method, and the investigation method. First, the author designs and makes VR tour games on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and then conducts a questionnaire survey and designs a control experiment. The experiment explores the differences of the short-term memory level of individuals between the normal environment and the VR tour game environment. It verifies whether the influential hypothesis proposed by the research is correct. Research conclusions show that: VR tour games have an impact on short-term memory. Compared with the normal environment, the subjects have better performance in the VR tour game mode and can maintain a high short-term memory level for a longer time. Its conclusions should promote the cultural propaganda of scenic spots and provide theoretical support for tourists' short-term memory of scenic spots culture.

  • Purpose - There is a lack of research on how much corporate control is sufficient for effective subsidiary business-related decision making. To address this research gap, this study analyzes the impact of the level of control of a Korean corporation's headquarters on its overseas subsidiary performance. Research design, data, methodology - The study's sample comes from the Overseas Korean Business Directory of KOTRA. A multiple regression analysis empirically confirmed the relationship between the headquarters level of control over the subsidiaries and their performance. Results - The results show that the greater an organization's headquarters control over strategic issues, the greater the subsidiary's non-financial performance. However, quick decision-making through decentralization promotes the rapid selection of successful new products that can provide a competitive advantage. Conclusion - This study shows that the impact of control levels on subsidiary performance depends on the type of control involved. Specifically, while low levels of control over operational issues had a positive (+) influence on subsidiary non-financial performance, high control levels led to improved non-financial performance with regard to strategic issues among the subsidiaries.

  • This study aimed at measuring students' interaction in distance education through the electronic platform among intermediate school students, by identifying the level of students' interaction in distance education and differences between them, as well as its impact on their motivation to learn. To achieve the aim of the study, two scales were designed for this purpose and were applied to a sample consisting of (268) individuals. The results showed that the level of students' interaction through the e-learning platform was at a high level. The results also showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of males and females in the scale of students' interaction through the e-learning platform. There was no statistically significant difference between them in their motivation for distance learning via the online platform. There were also no statistically significant differences related to the grade variable in the level of interaction through the electronic platform and in the motivation to learn, while there was a positive statistically significant effect of interaction through the electronic platform on students' motivation to learn.
