  • This paper presents an innovative prototype of a new conceptual electromagnetic induction-based fluid beating appliance using voltage-fed type scries capacitor-compensated load resonant high-frequency IGBT inverter with a phase-shifted PWM and a power factor correction schemes. Its operating characteristics in steady-state are illustrated including unique features and evaluated on the basis of its computer simulation and experimental results of 10kw breadboard appliance for hot water producer and superheated steamer. The promising cost effective inverter-fed boiler appliances for electromagnetic induction-heated type fluid-heating in the pipeline systems are proposed for induction-heated boiler, super heat steamer, high temperature water producer, hot gas producer and metal catalyst heating for exhaust gas cleaning in engine, which are more suitable and acceptable for industrial, chemical, and consumer energy utilization for household and business from a practical point of view.

Characteristics of High Frequency Induction-Hardened Bearing Steel Produced by VIM (VIM에 의해 제조된 고주파 유도경화 베어링강의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Characteristics of high frequency induction- hardened bearing steel have been investigated using 0.55wt.% C-1.68wt.% Mn specimens produced by vacuum induction melting (VIM). The K4 value in DIN 57602 of the specimens was assessed to be 6.41, high level of cleanliness. The specimens were high frequency induction-hardened to form heterogeneous submicron- lath martensite in the surface hardened layer with about 2.5mm in effective depth. Rolling contact fatigue tests were conducted in elasto-hydrodynamic lubricating conditions under a maximum Hertzian contact stress of$ 492kgmm^{-2}$ . It was found that microhardness in the subsurface, up to about $500\mu\textrm{m}$ in depth, below the raceway of rolling contact fatigued specimens was increased in comparison with that of induction-hardened layers. The depth of maximum microhardness- increased region was about $100\mu\textrm{m}$ from surface, showing white etching area. Crack initiation and propagation in the white etching area below the raceway of rolling contact fatigued specimens were observed.

  • In this study, we developed an analysis method of plate forming by induction heating, verifying the effectiveness of the present method through a series of experiments. The phenomena of the induction heating involves a 3D transient problem, coupled with electromagnetic, heat transfer, and elastoplastic large deformation analyses. To solve the problem, or present an appropriate model and an integrated system. Using the present analysis model, or can estimate the plate deformation in heating without experiments and simulate the plate bending process of induction heating.

  • Direct torque control (DTC) scheme provides a very quick torque response without the complex field-orientation block and inner current regulation loop. DTC is known as an appropriate scheme for high power induction motet drives because it can be used at lower switching frequency. There are two major drawbacks with the application of DTC schemes : one is large current harmonics due to flux drooping in a low speed range, the other is that the inverter switching frequency is varying according to motor parameters and operating speed. Switching devices in the power electronics drives should be supported for relatively high switching frequency. In this paper, a P-type fuzzy controller to realize the variable switching sector scheme and a PID-type fuzzy switching frequency regulator are adopted. A meaningful contribution of this paper is to propose a simple realization scheme of the fuzzy switching frequency regulator. Simulation results show the effectiveness of those propositions.

  • Titanum and its alloys have been used as the important materials of eyewear frame due to its light weight, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. This study investigates hardness and microstructures of titanum alloy groove wires in according with heating time by high frequency induction heating. Because of increase of grain size by the growth of heating time, hardness of ${\beta}-Ti$ has reduced. Hardness of Ti-325 reduced until 2 sec and rapidly increased at 3 sec by high frequency induction heating. It is observed that hardness of Ti-325 reduces by the increase of the grain size until 2 sec and suddenly increased by the development of the detailed ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ lamella at 3 sec.

  • Purpose: Dental casting Co-Cr-Mo based alloys of five kinds of ingot type and two kinds of shot type were analyzed the melting processes with heating time of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine using infrared thermal image analyzer. Methods: When Co-Cr-Mo based alloys were put about 30g/charge in the ceramic crucible of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine and heat, Infrared thermal image analyzer and IR thermometer indicated these alloys in the crucible were set and operated. Results: The melting temperatures of alloys measuring infrared thermal image analyzer were deviated ${\pm}10^{\circ}C$ compared to those of manufacturing company. On the other hand, the melting time of alloys were differently appeared with the shape of alloys(ingot and shot type). Conclusion: The melting temperatures of dental Co-Cr-Mo based alloys were measured the degree of $1,360{\sim}1410^{\circ}C$ and the heating time with the alloys of ingot and shot type were deviated ${\pm}10sec$.

Corrosion Behavior of Dental Alloys Cast by Various Casting Methods (치과용 주조합금의 주조방법에 따른 부식거동)

  • The defects of partial denture frameworks are mainly shrinkage porosity, inclusions, micro-crack, particles from investment, and dendritic structure. In order to investigate a good casting condition of partial denture frameworks, the three casting alloys and casting methods were used and detected casting defects were analyzed by using electrochemical methods. Three casting alloys (63Co-27Cr-5.5Mo, 63Ni-16Cr, 63Co-30Cr-5Mo) were prepared for fabricating partial denture frameworks with various casting methods; centrifugal casting (Kerr, USA), high frequency induction casting (Jelenko Eagle, USA), vacuum pressure casting (Bego, Germany). The casting temperature was $1,380^{\circ}C$ (63Co-27Cr-5.5Mo and 63Ni-16Cr) and $1,420^{\circ}C$ (63Co-30Cr-5Mo). The casting morphologies were analyzed using FE-SEM and EDX. The corrosion test of the dendritic structure was performed through potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCl solutions at $36.5^{\circ}C$ and corrosion surface was observed using SEM. The defects of partial denture frameworks improved in the order of centrifugal casting, high frequency induction casting, and vacuum pressure casting method, especially, pore defects were found at part of clasp in the case of centrifugal casting method. The structure of casting showed dendritic structure for three casting alloys. In the 63Co-27Cr-5.5Mo and 63Co-30Cr-5Mo, $\alpha$-Co and $\varepsilon$-Co phases were identified at matrix and $${\gamma}$-Ni_2$Cr second phase were shown in 63Ni-16Cr. Also, the corrosion resistance of cast structure increased in the order of vacuum pressure casting, high frequency induction casting, and centrifugal casting method.

  • This paper proposes a voltage-fed high frequency resonant inverter having variable voltage variable frequency(VVVF) control function. VVVF control is performed by PWM-TRC method in the boost type chopper and PFM-TRC method in the high frequency resonant inverter. This circuit is suitable for induction heating and melting power supply in industry. The operating characteristics of this inverter are discussed from a theoretical point of view. The results of operating characteristic analyses are given leading to complete designing data.

Effects of Drawing Parameters on Mechanical Properties of BAS121 Alloy Tubes for Heat-exchangers by High Frequency Induction Welding (고주파유도용접된 열교환기용 BAS121합금튜브의 기계적 특성에 미치는 인발조건의 영향)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the optimum drawing parameter for BAS121 welded tubes. The BAS121 aluminium alloy tubes with 25 mm in external diameter and 1.3 mm in thickness for heat-exchangers were manufactured by high frequency induction welding with the V shaped convergence angle $6.5^{\circ}$ and power input 55 kW. With increasing the reduction of area ($13,\;21\%$) by drawing, tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased. With increasing the reduction of area by drawing, hardness in weld metal increased rapidly, while that of base metal increased slowly. In the specimen with the outer diameter smaller than 22 mm, hardness of weld metal was higher than that of base metal. The optimum drawing parameter of area reduction in BAS121 alloys was estimated about $13\%$ because of the work hardening of welds.

Effects of Heat-treatment Parameters on Mechanical Properties of A3003 Al Alloy Tubes for Heat-exchangers by High Frequency Induction Welding (고주파유도 용접된 A3003 알루미늄합금 튜브의 기계적 특성에 미치는 열처리조건의 영향)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the full annealing parameter for A3003 Al alloy welded tubes. The A3003 Al alloy tubes with 34 mm in external diameter and 1.3 mm in thickness for OPC drum were manufactured by high frequency induction welding with the V shaped convergence angle $6.7^{\circ}$ and power input 50 kW. The tensile and yield strength decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and time remarkably, but elongation increased remarkably. Vickers hardness in welds and base metal decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and time remarkably. In a certain experimental condition, the welds line in A3003 alloys disappeared at $520^{\circ}C$ for 4hr because of the same mechanical properties and structures between welds and base metal.
