  • The di-functional epoxy resins, i.e., diglycidylether of bisphenol A(DGEBA) and diglycidylethere of bisphenol F(DGEBF) were initiated by cationic catalyst, i.e., benzylquinoxalinium hexafluoroantimonate(BQH) using electron-beam(EB) technique. And the effect of structure of DGEBA and DGEBF on thermal stabilities and cure behaviors was investigated. According to the experimental results, the decomposed activation energy based on Horowitz-Metzger method was higher in the case of DGEBA, but intergral procedural decomposition temperature(IPDT) of DGEBA was lower than DGEBF. This could be interpreted in terms of high crosslink density resulted from hydroxyl bond of DGEBF backbone. It was confirmed in increasing the hydroxyl band at $7000\;cm^{-1}$ and $5235\;cm^{-1}$ using near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS).

  • An artificially modulated magnetic Co/Pd multilayer is one of the promising candidates for high density magneto-optic (MO) recording media, due to large Kerr rotation angle in the wavelength of a blue laser beam. however, since multilayer structure, as well as amorphous structure, is a non-equilibrium state in terms of free energy and MO recording is a kind of thermal recording which is conducted aound Curie temperature (Tc) of the recording media, when the multilayer is used for the MO recording media, changes in the multilayer structure are occurred as the amorphous structure do. Therefore, the assessment of the structural stability in the Co/Pd multilayer is crucially important both for basic research and applications. As the parameter of the structural stability in this research, modulation amplitude and particle size of the Co/Pd multilayer are measured in terms of Ar sputtering pressure and heat treatment temperature. From the results of the research, we find out that the magnetic exchange energy in the structural changes of a magnetic multilayer structure and suggest the operating temperature range for MO recording in the Co/Pd multilayer for the basic research and applications, respectively.

  • A pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used widely for materials processing and medical instrument. It's very important to control the laser energy density in those fields using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. A pulse repetition rate and a pulse width are regarded as the most dominant factors to control the energy density of laser beam. In this paper, the alternating charge and discharge system was designed to adjust a pulse repetition rate This system is controlled by microprocessor and allows to replace an expensive condenser for high frequency to cheap one for low frequency. In addition, The microcontroller monitors the flow of cooling water, short circuit. and miss firing and so on. We designed Nd:YAG laser firmware with smart microcontroller, and want to explain general matters about the firmware from now.

  • Due to their high sensitivity, fast response, small energy consumption and ease of integration, nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) have attracted much interest in various applications such as high speed memory devices, energy harvesting devices, frequency tunable RF receivers, and ultra sensitive mass sensors. Since the device performance of NEMS is closely related with the mechanical and flexural properties of the material in NEMS, analysis of the mechanical and flexural properties such as intrinsic tensile stress and Young's modulus is a crucial factor for designing the NEMS structures. In the present work, the intrinsic mechanical properties of highly stressed silicon nitride (SiN) beams are investigated as a function of the beam length using two different techniques: (i) dynamic flexural measurement using optical interferometry and (ii) quasi-static flexural measurement using atomic force microscopy. The reliability of the results is analysed by comparing the results from the two different measurement techniques. In addition, the mass density, Young's modulus and internal stress of the SiN beams are estimated by combining the techniques, and the prospect of SiN based NEMS for application in high sensitive mass sensors is discussed.

  • Welding defects, such as porosity and spike, have sometimes occurred in deep penetration electron beam welds. These defects are known to be one of the serious problem in electron beam welds. So, effects of active parameters ($a_b$) on bead shape and occurrence of defects in electron beam welds of heavy section 9%Ni steel plates were investigated. Partial penetration welding in flat position, and deep penetration welding of 10 ~ 28mm depth were investigated in this study. It is desirable to select low accelerating voltage and above the surface focus position $a_b$$\geq$1.2 at which a wine-cup shaped bead is obtained to avoid the welding defects such as spike and root porosity. When the accelerating voltage of electron beam was low (90kV), active parameter ($a_b$) did not influence on the bead width, penetration depth and weld defects significantly. However, in case of high voltage ($\geq$120kV), active parameter ($a_b$) was sensitively associated with penetraton depth and weld defects, i.e. when the active parameter (($a_b$) was in the range of 0.6 to 1.0, the depth of penetration was always over the target (23mm), while the depth of penetration was dramatically decreased with further increase of active parameter ($a_b$). The weld defects were decreased with the increase of active parameter $a_b$ resulting in the decrease of energy density of the focused beam in the root part of fusion zone.

  • Laser surface hardening process is the method of hardening surface by inducing rapid self quenching of laser injected area through transfer of surface heat to inside after rapid heating of laser injected area only by high density energy heat source. This surface treatment method does not involve virtually any thermal deformation by heat treatment nor accompanies any other process after surface hardening treatment. In addition, allowing local machining, this method is a surface treatment method suitable for die with complicated shape. In this study, die material cast iron was surface-treated by using high power diode laser with beam profile suitable for heat treatment. Since the shapes of die differ by press die process, specimens were heat-treated separately on plane and corner depending on the applied parts. At this time, corner heat treatment was done with optic head inclined at $10^{\circ}$. As a result, corner heat treatment easily involves concentration of heat input due to limitation of heat transfer route by the shapes compared with plane part, so the treatment accomplished hardening at faster conveying speed than plane heat treatment.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the use of dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the diagnosis of osteoporosis among menopausal and postmenopausal women by using only a CBCT viewer program. Materials and Methods: Thirty-eight menopausal and postmenopausal women who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) examination for hip and lumbar vertebrae were scanned using CBCT (field of view: $13cm{\times}15cm;$ voxel size: 0.25 mm). Slices from the body of the mandible as well as the ramus were selected and some CBCT-derived variables, such as radiographic density (RD) as gray values, were calculated as gray values. Pearson's correlation, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and accuracy (sensitivity and specificity) evaluation based on linear and logistic regression were performed to choose the variable that best correlated with the lumbar and femoral neck T-scores. Results: RD of the whole bone area of the mandible was the variable that best correlated with and predicted both the femoral neck and the lumbar vertebrae T-scores; further, Pearson's correlation coefficients were 0.5/0.6 (p value=0.037/0.009). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy based on the logistic regression were 50%, 88.9%, and 78.4%, respectively, for the femoral neck, and 46.2%, 91.3%, and 75%, respectively, for the lumbar vertebrae. Conclusion: Lumbar vertebrae and femoral neck osteoporosis can be predicted with high accuracy from the RD value of the body of the mandible by using a CBCT viewer program.

  • The change of the nitrogen-related centers and the color change of electron beam irradiated type Ia natural diamonds were studied. The irradiation of diamond with high-energy electron beam creates lattice defects which are neutral single vacancy $V^0$. It increased with increasing electron dose density. The B aggregation seems to produce vacancies more easily than the A aggregation, because diamonds with more B aggregation have more platelets, which are sufficient breakable size by electron beam. Greenish blue color of irradiated diamond is changed to darker with increasing electron dose density. GR1 centers with a zero-phonon line at 741 nm and phonon sidebands make transmit visible light at 530 nm and it moves to 500 nm with higher intensity of GR1 centers.

  • The liquid metal ion sources(LMIS) in FIB system have many advantages of high current density, high brightness, and low ion energy spread. Most FIB systems use LMIS because the beam spot size of LMIS is smaller than of gas field ionization sources(GFIS). LMIS basically consists of a emitter(needle, anode), a reservoir(gallium) and a extractor(cathode). But several LMIS have new electrode called the suppressor. We investigated characteristics of LMIS with a suppressor. The characteristics of the threshold voltage and current-voltage (I-V) were observed under the varying extracting voltage with floated suppressor voltage, and under the varying suppressor voltages with fixed extractor voltage. We also simulated LMIS with the suppressor through CST(Computer Simulation Technology). We can explain characteristics of LMIS with a suppressor using the electric field.

Form the results of the research, we find out that the magnetic exchange energy between Co and Pd sublayers strongly affects the changes in the magnetic properties of the Co/Pd multilayers during the interdiffusion in ferromagnetic state. This discovery will provide the understanding of the magnetic exchange energy in the Co/Pd multilayer structure and suggest the operating temperature range for MO recording in the Co/Pd multilayer for the basic research and applications, respectively.
