Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an attractive machining technique but it requires electrically conductive ceramic materials. In this study, Alumina matrix composites reinforced with CNTs were fabricated through CNT purification, mixing, compaction and spark plasma sintering (SPS) processes. $Al_2O_3$ nanocomposites with the different CNT concentrations were synthesized. The mechanical and electrical characteristics of $Al_2O_3$/CNTs composites were examined in order to apply the materials to the EDM process. In addition, micro-EDM using wire electrical discharge grinding (WEDG) was conducted under the various EDM parameters to investigate the machining characteristics of machined hole by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). The results show that $Al_2O_3$/CNTs 10%Vol. was more suitable than the other materials because high conductivity and large discharge energy caused violent sparks resulting in bad machining accuracy and surface quality.
A room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) based on trihexyl (tetradecyl)phosphonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide ([$(C_6H_{13})_3P(C_{14}H_{29)}$] [TFSI];P66614TFSI) was synthesized and analyzed to determine their characteristics and properties. The bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anion is widely studied as an ionic liquid (IL) forming anion which imparts many useful properties, notably electrochemical stability. Especially its electrochemical and physical characteristics for solvent of lithium ion battery were investigated in detail. $P_{66614}$ TFSI exhibits fairly low conductivity (0.89 mS $cm^{-1}$) and higher viscosity (298 K: 277 cP; 343 K: 39 cP) than other ionic liquids, but it exhibits a high thermal stability (over $400^{\circ}C$). Especially corrosion behavior on Al current collector was tested at room temperature and further it was confirmed that thermal resistivity for Al corrosion was highly increased in 1.0M LiTFSI/$P_{66614}$-TFSI electrolyte comparing with other RTILs by linear sweep thermometry.

This research was done to evaluate the potential for destruction of perchlorate in municipal sewage. Laboratory experiments were conducted in flasks containing 3 liters of raw sewage. Sewage was mixed with defined amount of perchlorate and various additives. Perchlorate reduction in sewage did occur, but was quite variable, ranging from 0 to 72% over 72 hour. Addition of even a small amount of perchlorate acclimated biomass (167 mg/L SS) significantly reduced the lag and resulted in complete perchlorate removal. Perchlorate reduction in sewage-brine mixtures was inhibited when the dissolved oxygen level was greater than 2 mg/L, and when the mixture salinity was relatively high (conductivity = 14 mS with equivalent TDS = 8 g/L). When nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$) was present with perchlorate in the laboratory flask tests of sewage-brine mixtures, nitrate reduction proceeded first. A significant amount of nitrite ($NO_2{^-}$) accumulated in the sewage-brine mixtures, accounting for about 66% of initial nitrate nitrogen ($NO_3$-N).

Precipitation samples were collected by a wet-only automatic acid precipitation sampler at Kangwha island on the western coast in Korea, through January until December 1992. pH, electric conductivity and the concentrations of major water-soluble ion components such as N $H_{4}$$^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $K^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, N $a^{+}$, N $O_{3}$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$ and C $l^{[-10]}$ were measured. From the result of checking the validity for assesment of pollution level of precipitation samples by pH using correlation analysis between pH and major components, and t-test of chemical composition between acid rain and non-acid rain, pH proved to be not satisfactory for its pillution level. A more comprehensive method is therefore required. In order to estimate the monthly analytical result of chemical composition of precipitation samples comprehensively, a cluster analysis was used among the various multivariate statistical analysis. As a result of making a cluster analysis for separating the monthly precipitation samples into homogeneous patterns by setting the concentrations of nine major water-soluble ion components as a variable, three homogeneous patterns were obtained. The first pattern was a group of months having average ion concentrations, the second a guoup of months having low ion concentration, and the third a group of months having high ion concentrations. Thus, it was indicated that the pollution level of precipitation was higher on February and lower on May, June, August and September than the other months. As a result, this analysis method could be estimated the chemical coposition of precipitation regionally as well as monthly.monthly.
Membrane distillation (MD) is the thermally driven water separation process based on the vapor pressure difference across the membrane. In order to increase the water recovery of the conventional RO process, the additional MD-PRO pocess was suggested. In this study, the syntheric RO brine was used as a feed solution of the MD process. Due to the high salinity of the RO brine, the MD membrane could be fouled by the scalants. In order to mitigate the scaling on the MD membrane surface, the pre-treatment process using the column filled by natural zeolite was applied. The roughing filter was installed between the pre-treatment process and MD system in order to prevent possible particulate fouling by the debries of the natural zeolite. Moreover, in order to enhance the CEC of the natural zeolite, the NaCl soaking was conducted. The flux and electronic conductivity were monitored under given experimental conditions. And the membrane morphology and the chemical compositions were analyzed by using the SEM-EDX.

The goal of this paper is to estimate proper hardfacing material and thickness of STD61 hot-working tool steel through three-dimensional heat transfer and thermal stress analyses. Stellite6, Stellite21 and 19-9DL superalloys are chosen as alternative hardfacing materials. The influence of hardfacing materials and thicknesses on temperature, thermal stress and thermal strain distributions of the hardfaced part are investigated using the results of the analyses. From the results of the investigation, it has been noted that a hardfacing material with a high conductivity and a thinner hardfaced layer are desired to create an effective hardfacing layer in terms of heat transfer characteristics. In addition, it has been revealed that the deviation of effective stress and principal strain in the vicinity of the joined region are minimized when the Stellite21 hardfaced layer with the thickness of 2 mm is created on the STD61. Based on the above results, a proper hardfacing material and thickness for STD61 tool steel have been estimated.

The specific capacitance characteristics of the electric double layer capacitors(ELDC) which were made of phenol based activated carbon fiber(ACF) electrodes. Also the effect of aqueous electrolytes on the cell performance has been investigated with respect to different specific surface areas of electrodes and different kinds of aqueous electrolytes. It has been shown that larger surface area and pore size, higher conductivity of electrodes, and higher ion mobility of electrolytes have better specific capacitances. It has been found that heat treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$ and $CO_2$ post-activation at $900^{\circ}C$ of the electrode are effective to improve the specific capacitance over 145F/g and 165F/g, respectively. The EDLC showed high efficiency and long cycle life over 30000 cycles.
Active thin films are ubiquitous in the manufacture of all forms of flat panel display (FPD). One of the most widely employed thin films is indium tin oxide (ITO) and metal films used electrically conductive materials in display industries. ITO is widely used for fabrication of LCD, OLED device, and many kinds of optical applications because of transparency in visible range and its high conductivity and metal films are also widely employed as electrodes in various electric and display industries. It is important that removing specific area of layer, such as ITO or metal film on substrate, to fabricate and repair electrode in display industries. In this work, we demonstrate efficient selective ablation process to ITO and aluminum film on glass using a femtosecond laser (${\lambda}p=1025nm$) respectively. The femtosecond laser with wavelength of 1025nm, pulse duration of 400fs, and the repetition rate of 100kHz was used for selectively removing ITO and Al on glass in the air. We can successfully remove the ITO and Al films with various pulse energies using a femtosecond laser.
This study helps develop cool-touch functional dance sportswear. We suggest a draft design for dance sportswear that chooses appropriate cool-touch functional materials based on an investigation of the changes of body surface temperature before and after exercise, the physical properties of cool-touch materials on the market, and the preference for cooling tools. The results are as follows. First, cool-touch functional sportswear products on the market utilize materials such as PCM, Delta fabric, high gauge fabric, and ice chips as well as incorporate functions such as UV block and eyelets for enhanced breathability. Polyester and polyurethane fibers are mainly used for cool-touch functional sportswear. Second, the neck area showed the highest surface temperatures (32.7℃ and 32.1℃) before and after exercise. Body surface temperatures measured after exercise were also lower than temperatures measured before exercise when wearing dance sportswear. Third, as for the physical properties of cool-touch materials, material 1 showed amaximum drying speed (130 min), material 3 the best moisture absorption speed (122 × 132 min), and material 4 the best thermal conductivity (0.013 7 w/m·K). Fourth, a draft design for a cool-touch functional dance sportswear was suggested, including a neckband made of removable soft PVC material on the neck area and applying material 4 in F1, B4, S2 and lower arm areas and material 1 in the armpit area. Deodorant tape was also attached to the armpit area for added comfort and antibacterial deodorant effect.
A finite element code was developed to analyze coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical phenomena. This code is based on the finite element formulation provided by Noorishad et al. (1984) and Joint behavior was simulated Goodman's joint constitutive model. The developed code was applied for T-H-M coupling analysis for two kinds of shaft models, with a joint or without a joint respectively. For a model without a joint, temperature increased from the shaft wall to outward evidently. The radial displacement showed opposite directions of outward and inward at some distance from shaft wall. For a model with a joint, closure of joint was found due to thermal expansion. The temperature distribution along a joint showed relatively lower than that of rock matrix because of low thermal conductivity and high specific heat of water. And it could be concluded that effects of thermal flow to joint were more than that of hydraulic flow in a rock mass.
