  • This paper presents a new ZVS-PWM high frequency inverter. The ZVS operation is achieved in the whole load range by using a simple auxiliary reverse blocking switch in parallel with series resonant capacitor. The operating principle and the operating characteristics of the new high frequency circuit treated here are illustrated and evaluated on the basis of simulation results. It was examined that the complete soft switching operation can be achieved even for low power setting ranges by introducing the high frequency dual duty cycle control scheme. In the proposed high frequency inverter treated here, the dual mode pulse modulation control strategy of the asymmetrical PWM in the higher power setting ranges and the lower power setting ones, the output power of this high frequency inverter could introduce in order to extend soft switching operation ranges. Dual duty cycle is used to provide a wide range of output power regulation that is important in many high frequency inverter applications. It is more suitable for induction heating applications the operation and control principle of the proposed high frequency inverter are described and verified through simulated results.

  • Recently, the use of high-strength concrete is increasing due to the trend of constructing high-rise and long span structures. The benefit of using the high-strength concrete is that it increases the durability and strength while it reduces the cross-sectional area of the bridge deck slabs. Moreover, it offers more safety as these bridge deck slabs applying high-strength requires strict structural performance verification. In this study, the fatigue performance of the bridge deck slabs applying 80 MPa high-strength concrete was verified through various experiments. The experimental results showed that the specimens satisfy the conditions of flexural strength, punching shear strength, deflection and cracking. In conclusion, the bridge deck slabs designed by 80 MPa high-strength concrete are enough safe despite of its low thickness.

  • Recently, there is a strong need of DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) system of high density. high speed, and high accuracy System performances mostly depend on not only optical system, but also servo technology to drive it. Therefore, we investigate main technology concerned with optical pick-up unit based on 4.7GB DVD-RAM and analyzes technology of optical and servo systems that are required for high density high speed and high accuracy from the viewpoint of control. And then, we design a linear controller based on specification of 4.7GB DVD-RAM that is commercially available now. We analyze the dynamic characteristics of optical system that is coupled with control system and verify effect on performance indices of servo due to Parameter variation of pick-up by simulation. Finally, we will propose controller design specifications and provide direction of technical development for servo system and problems coupled with high capacity for 15GB level in the future.

  • Driving gear units can be affected by various problems, including those associated with external or internal defects in the bearing, problems with the lubricant oil, high-loading of the railway, and frequent impacts generated by rail joints. Temperature monitoring is a basic method in diagnosing abnormal conditions in the reduction gear and other components. This paper describes a new wireless monitoring system for the temperature diagnosis of abnormal conditions of the reduction gear. Integrated circuit (IC)-type temperature sensors were installed in the reduction gear box of a high-speed railway car. The temperature data from the reduction gear were acquired and analyzed in situ during high-speed rail operation. Analysis of these data was used to alert the driver and/or maintenance personnel when problems occurred.

  • These days, the interests on the high speed handling robots are increasing because it is important to get down the unit cost of production to get the price competitiveness. The parallel kinematic mechanism is more suitable to implement the high speed robot system as well known. The moving parts of the high speed parallel robot have to be designed for light weight. But the vibration motion is induced by the light weight links because they drive in high acceleration and deceleration. In this reason, the structural analysis of the high speed parallel kinematic robot is very important in the design process. In this paper, the study on the structural analysis of a high speed parallel robot has been done and the research results will be introduced.

  • The seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) columns made from high-strength materials was investigated experimentally. Six high-strength concrete specimen columns (1:4 scale), which included three with high-strength stirrups (HSSs) and three with normal-strength stirrups (NSSs), were tested under a combination of high axial and reversed cyclic loads. The effects of stirrup strength and the ratio of transverse reinforcement on the cracking patterns, hysteretic response, strength, stiffness, ductility, energy dissipation and strain of transverse reinforcement were studied. The results indicate that good seismic behaviour of an RC column subjected to high axial compression can be obtained by using a well-shaped stirrup. Stirrup strength had little effect on the lateral bearing capacity. However, the ductility was significantly modified by improving the stirrup strength. When loaded with a large lateral displacement, the strength reduction of NSS specimens was more severe than that of those with HSSs, and increasing the stirrup strength had little effect on the stiffness reduction. The ductility and energy dissipation of specimens with HSSs were superior to those with NSSs. When the ultimate displacement was reached, the core concrete could be effectively restrained by HSSs.

  • The use of high-strength steel and concrete in the construction industry has been gaining increasing attention over the past few decades. With it comes the need to utilise high-strength structural bolts to ensure the design load to be transferred safely through joint regions, where the space is limited due to the reduced structural dimensions. However, research on the behaviour of high-strength structural bolts under various loading combinations is still insufficient. Most of the current design specifications concerning high-strength structural bolts were established based on a very limited set of experimental results. Moreover, as experimental programs normally include limited design parameters for investigation, finite element analysis has become one of the effective methods to assist the understanding of the behaviour of structural components. An accurate and simple full-range stress-strain model for high-strength structural bolts under different loading combinations was therefore developed, where the effects of bolt fracture was included. The ultimate strength capacities of various structural bolts obtained from the present experimental program were compared with the existing design provisions. Furthermore, design recommendations concerning the pure shear and tension, as well as combined shear and tension resistance of Grade 10.9 high-strength structural bolts were provided.

  • Wash primer was applied to cargo tank of Membrane-LNG Carrier (M-LNGC) for corrosion resistance and high bond-strength with the mastic. However, a lack of bond-strength verification at high thickness wash primer coating resulted in strict coating thickness control. Therefore wash primer was controlled below DFT(Dry Film Thickness) $30{\mu}m$. In order to develop the wash primer satisfying GTT (GAZ TRANSPORTAION TECHNIGAZ) standard even at high thickness, we evaluated coating properties such as wash primer/mastic bond-strength, corrosion resistance, as well as workability for the newly formulated wash primer materials. The newly formulated wash primer had high bonding-strength to mastic even at high thickness and had proper corrosion resistance and workability suitable to yard condition.

  • This paper introduces the current status of high-rise building design in Japan, with reference to some recent projects. Firstly, the design approval system and procedures for high-rise buildings and structures in Japan are introduced. Then, performance-based wind-resistant design of a 300 m-high building, Abeno Harukas, is introduced, where building configuration, superstructure systems and various damping devices are sophisticatedly integrated to ensure a higher level of safety and comfort against wind actions. Next, design of a 213 m-high building is introduced with special attention to habitability against the wind-induced horizontal motion. Finally, performance-based wind-resistant design of a 634 m-high tower, Tokyo Sky Tree, is introduced. For this structure, the core column system was adopted to satisfy the strict design requirements due to the severest level of seismic excitations and wind actions.
